You LOSE!Screamin_Eagle174 said:catbob said:All the talk on this game will be about Taiwan Jones vs the MSU defense, and rightfully so. Here are some things you Eagle fans may not be aware of though.
Conference rankings:
MSU is #1 in total offense (493.3 YPG)
MSU is #1 in rushing offense (219 YPG)
MSU is #1 in passing efficiency (169.1 rating)
MSU is #1 in first downs (27 per game)
MSU is #1 in red zone efficiency (a perfect 17 for 17)
MSU is #3 is passing offense (274.2 YPG)
MSU is #3 in scoring offense (43 PPG)
And, perhaps most importantly for this game, MSU is #1 in time of possession (34:49 average).
The stats are somewhat skewed playing a bad DII, a non-scholly FCS, and a bad FBS foe, but we still put up over 400 yards of total offense against the Cougs, and 123 on the ground.
EWU is bad against the run, and even worse against the pass. I think Eagles should be more worried about stopping the surprisingly potent and efficient MSU offense than the Cats should be about stopping the great Taiwan Jones.
No prediction from me yet, just food for though.
And yes, losing Taunau may hurt quite a bit, we have a 5th year senior and a 4th year junior starting for our two guys, and one of the best offensive line coaches in all of FCS football IMO. We should be okay. Denarious McGhee (QB) and Orenzo Davis (RB) can make plays just fine on their own anyway.
Sounds like you prefer your math, but I like history a little better:
Recent history is on the side of the Eagles in a series that has seen EWU come out on top in 25 of 33 meetings. Eastern has won the last seven meetings and 16 of the last 19. Since 1990, EWU's only losses to the Bobcats came in 1997 (17-7 in Bozeman), 2001 (48-38 in Spokane) and 2002 (25-14 in Bozeman).
Eastern has won the last three meetings in Bozeman, with MSU's last win coming by a 25-14 score in 2002. In fact, Eastern has not lost to Montana State in the last seven times they have met at Roos Field, dating back to a 28-25 double-overtime victory by the Bobcats in 1990.
And yes, MSU's stats are definitely inflated by the opponents you've played. Weak D-II, really weak FCS, and really really weak FBS. Likewise, our numbers are also a little skewed because we've gone up against perennial power D-II, perennial power FCS, and FBS' #1 or #2 Offense from last year (with almost all of it back). Keep in mind that Nevada also just beat Cal 52-31, and we only lost 49-24.
I'm not gonna make any predictions yet, just some food for thought.![]()
