Facilities

I also like your list. The only change I would make is to drop the upgrade of the BH locker rooms to #6 behind the new end zone complex. That way the upgrage of the BH locker room could be more sport specific. Without having to have a large football lockerroom, you could really do something nice for the other sports and give each of them (wrestling, VB, and both BB teams) their own lockerroom with the freed up space.

I didnt think about it that way, but it is a good idea! My thinking was based off the idea that renovating an existing facility is cheaper than building a new one, and I figured funding for a renovation would be easier to come by.

It's pretty scary when you start listing all the facility upgrades that need to happen but one other that really is in a sad state of affairs is Jackson Baseball Field. I even remember the third base dugout was on the list of projects for the current round of improvements but at some point it must have been scrapped because it didn't happen. Also when the Greeley Grays were established there was supposed to be some work done to further upgrade Jackson, lights being one thing. But for whatever reason nothing happened, the team moved to the other side of town, and the field just gets more outdated each year.

But what it needs is a new visitors (third) base dugout area and better permanent seating. Also I always felt the area along 6th Ave needed to be spruced up. Get ride of the old chain link and barbed wire fence and put up a solid brick 8 to 10 foot wall which would give the field more privacy for lack of a better term. Also above the brick wall along the foul line add some netting to keep balls from crashing onto 6th Ave. Similar to what you find around golf courses set close to the street...

I could go on but that's a good start.

Hey, if I remember correctly, we settled the weight room issues months ago by agreeing that they would start going to BearsRadio's condo gym to work out. :) Next, because I will be graduating in May (with the help of a few well placed bribes), I will be willing to vote in any cost increase for athletic funding(you guys did it to me, it's now my turn to stiff the next guys in line). As far as Athletic offices in a field house at the north end of Nottingham, if I was in any sport besides football, I'd be saying, "Wait a minute. How come I gotta walk?" I say put in a weight room, a nice home and visitor locker room facility, and a small conference room for breaking down film and the such, and call Nottingham done. No wait...more beer stands. Yeah, now it's done.

Something Chris Kiser and I have talked about at halftime of some games this season is that a capital campaign is beginning next month. There are a number of planned improvements to BH IF the money is raised.

Weight room improvements and locker room renovations/improvements are high on the list.

Also, Chris noted during the CSU game that over the past three months a half-million has been given the athletic department.

This is something he and I will keep talking about multiple times during broadcasts, so keep your ears peeled.

That's great news Troy but Hinrichs better not botch this up. I want to know where I can give my money. The capital campaign will be a great success only if they do it right. I better see "give to the campaign" or something like that all over the place. The website, newspapers, flyers, etc. I want to give my money but I don't know who to give it too. The Blue and Gold club? the NCAF? They better get it "out there" As I mentioned it could be a great success but the AD needs to do a better job of getting info to the public.

I would not get your hopes up on that one....the fundraising info currently on the website is from 2005..... Remember how the Blue and Gold club was coming back? Well since the press release nada has been done to the website to reflect this...

What they should do, and would shure as hell get me a-donatin' would be to get one of those thermometer things that they fill up as the cash level goes up, and they could have targets that send our crappy leadership packing - $1millon = Jay goes, $5million = Kay goes.

Kidding aside, I think if the administration came up with a capital campaign tied to some specific goals that will work. Whatever the amount is if it says it will go to a new fieldhouse, renovation of these areas, etc. I think they can have some luck. Announce a well thought out master plan and say heres the cost. They can get some naming rights going and it will be tough but I think doable. What they do now does not work at all. If they announce a capital campaign with no demonstrable goals it will go nowhere.

Bears Radio - straighten them out for us!!

Yeah Bears Radio get on this geez... :P

But I totally, 100%, agree with the sentiment above that we need to see an actual well thought out and marketed campaign. Draw up some plans, draw up a budget, draw up a time table, etc. and make that information EASILY ACCESSIBLE AND AVAILABLE TO THE SUPPORTERS.

I've grown weary of the complete lack of information coming from the athletic department. How can they expect anyone to give when they have no clue what's going on up there?

Something to consider: with the recent reorganization that has occurred within the Foundation, Kiser's job is under their auspices. The capital campaign that I mentioned is part of a larger campaign by the Foundation for the University as a whole.

That reorganization also may illustrate why the fundraising material on the site is from '05. The athletic department doesn't have full-scale control over the fundraising, like it previously had.

Also, more info about Blue and Gold will be coming out in January, according to Kiser.

OK, I think that covers it, as best as I can do...

I think that GoBears suggestion alone makes him the smartest individual on this website. Hell, we kick out Hinrichs and I'd be casting my votes for the " GoBears Fieldhouse and Locker Facility at Nottingham Field"

Thanks Ursa, but shelving Jay and Kay would be all the appreciation I need, I would rather UNC get some $$$ for naming it after someone. :D

Damn it! I worked on that name all night. There I was with my pen and paper, " GoBears Sports Pav...no(crumple, crumple, toss)...the GoBears Memorial Locker...no(crumple, crumple, toss) Nottingham Field at GoBears Complexvillion...no (crumple, crumple, toss)

Coors needs to throw some money towards our new arena. We aren't too PC to care and they need something to compete with the Budweiser Events Center.

So Troy you might know, has UNC ever considered trying to play some games at the Budweiser Events Center? Like let's just say hypothetically they scheduled a big name team to come in here and play to a big crowd. Someone like Kansas, N. Carolina, Georgetown, you get the idea. A famous team that never plays here that might draw a big crowd or a team like Kansas that would attracte a big crowd. Pay them a guarantee and keep the rest as profit. Also, count it as a home game and use those attendance numbers to up the average attendance for the season... play a men's and womens' double header and help the women's team out also.

Seems like it might be worth a shot. CSU doesn't seem to be able to bring in any big time teams and I bet there are enough college basketball fans in the region that they would come out to see a well know team like Georgetown that never plays out here.

Coors Event Center wanted to use "Beeritorium" but I wouldn't budge on my price. They have tried to use "Alcoholeria" with little success. Either way, I think I'm onto something. If you want to start referring to the proposed fieldhouse on the radio as the "beeritorium", I can't stop you, but I would much rather you gave GoBears the credit he deserves. On another note, I do like the idea of using the Bud Center. What UNC would need to do is PROMOTE,PROMOTE, PROMOTE. I don't think I have ever seen a full page add in the Coloradoan, Herald, Times Call, Post, or News, promoting anything about UNC. It may have occured, and I may have missed it, but UNC needs to look at Athletics as an advertising venue for the school. CSU and CU get the press because they are at the level they are, someone upstairs needs to realize that, for now, we are just going to have to pay for it!

I don't think I'll touch the "beeritorium" during a broadcast. No offense, Ursa, but I just don't think it'd fly.

I'll write on the BEC thing later. As to promotion/advertising, the University's advertising budget has been an unbelievably low total. I can't say too much on it, though, for political reasons.

What I don't understand is that a school whose enrollment dropped 6% ( I think that was the figure), wouldn't be scrambling to make those numbers up. I would think that advertising would be the way to go about that.
