Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I just saw on twitter via Jim Allen that Dalis Bruce was arrested this morning for "3rd degree sexual

We never even got to see him with pads on.

I guess we will find out more in the next couple days...he never even suited up, was he even in Cheney for a week? Didn't he arrive on Friday?
That's kind of a wo be us because we lost a potentially good player attitude, when the sentiments should be, poor girl for the trauma she is going through, and how this will affect and change the life of the young man. All for a moment of passion.
This is all assuming it is true, which is also wrong because he is innocent until proven guilty!

There's no room for this on any team, in any city, any state - anywhere. IF he is guilty, I for one, have ZERO regrets that we never saw him run, or in pads. He was arrested early Sunday morning - which, to me, says she didn't sleep on whether or not what happened was "wrong" or consensual. If she had waited a few days - I might be more skeptical.

Are there R.A's in the dorms during fall camp? Who supervises the kids in the dorms prior to the rest of the students coming on campus in late September? Aside from all that - if she's a wrongful accuser or if he is guilty of sexual assault - whichever it is, whoever it is, should be permanently removed from EWU athletics.

Rumor has it, that he confessed during initial questioning. Whether accurate or not, whether such a confession ever stands legal scrutiny, there is no doubt a overwhelming feeling of sadness... for the alleged victim, for this young man who may have not only thrown away his football future but his future, for their families who will both grieve in different ways, and yes, for our football program for the loss of talent, yes, but also for the inevitable poor association it brings to the team of mostly fine young men. I fervently hope that our fan base conducts itself in a dignified way when this inevitably hits the fan forums (see eGriz posters for examples of how not to act). My prayers go to the victim for her recovery and peace. To Coach Baldwin and his staff in that they find the wisdom and strength to guide the team and make informed decisions regarding these matters. To Dalis Bruce that you seek God's strength and forgiveness to see you through this literal trial and its aftermath.

Does anybody know any details? Not trying to be a perv here, just the fact that we're talking "3rd degree" is odd... plus, assault not rape. I fancy myself as a bit of a lawman, and I just can't see this being a "MAJOR" crime for this kind of charge. We're likely talking about something on par with getting drunk and grabbing a chick's boob. Not classy stuff, no doubt, but is it lock the 18 yo kid up and throw away the key stuff?

Jim Allen has reported that his arraignment is scheduled for August 28th on charges of 2nd degree rape and residential burglary. He was released on $25,000 bail.

For those not in the know 2nd degree rape is charged when the act is not one that qualifies under the definition of 1st degree but is under circumstances constituting (a) by force, or (b) when the victim is unable to consent by reason of being either physically or mentally incapacitated. That's a poor paraphrase but the statute is as follows:

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=9a.44.050

And yeah, if we're talking about a break-in rape, that's a big-time felony. I didn't think that was the charge, though. The news piece I saw printed yesterday said 3rd degree sexual assault. The difference between the two charges, and the acts that would warrant those kind of charges, is quite literally night and day.

My understanding is that he's not charged with rape, but sexual assault.

Yes, that was the initial report; however that information has been superseded by the court documents filed Monday in Superior Court which are the basis for the most recent report on the arraignment date and the rape and burglary charges. I'm not speculating about the nature of the charges or trying to make it sound worse for the young man; just updating info as it comes in.

After reading some of the comments related to the Griz situation and realizing that there are differences (for example our player had yet to even participate in a padded practice in contrast to their starting QB), I hope we can stay away from comments like maybe he was just grabbing a little boob or that he got carried away or even that it was a night of passion. If he committed a rape, it was an act of violence, brutality and control for which there is no excuse. I would hope that there's a consensus on that point. Further, other than updates I hope we won't have the need to engage in trying the case here or attempting to figure out the victim's identity (again take a gander over on eGrizz to see their efforts to discredit and intimidate the victim). Dalis Bruce will have his days in court and see my earlier post about my thoughts regarding the victim, the team, and Bruce. Rant over, and not necessarily directed at anyone so no offense meant.

Fair enough... my point is that there is a BIG difference between 3rd degree sexual assault and 2nd degree rape. You don't throw a kid's future away over 3rd degree sexual assault... rape is a whole 'nother ball game. I'm old enough now to say you gotta make the punishments fit the crime, and while both are horrible acts, one is both legally and morally much less than the other.

The thread on Egriz blows my mind. Some of the posters (not all, they have some good ones too) over there appear they have WAY too much time on their hands so they blow up an internet message board trying to prove who knows what. The majority of them see things with Maroon colored glasses on and I don't think they have a clue what it looks like for their QB and their program (regarding the other issues) from a perspective outside of Missoula and the Griz family. Point being, a lot of their posts make it looks like all they care about is football and they could care less about the victim (I understand their is an ongoing investigation) and I hope our board and fans don't post or come across that way.

Hanna your earlier post pretty much summed up what everyone feels on this board, and we will let everyone play out in the legal system now.

The whole situation just makes me sick. And it's no big surprise that alcohol was involved. It's a shame that people don't stop and think about the life changing ramifications of the actions they are about to engage in.

Won't speculate on what happened and just let the legal system do it's job. Just a damn shame that this black cloud will be hanging over the program/school for a while plus the fact that two young kids lives are/will be forever changed because of it.

Here is an updated story from Krem.

Thoughts and prayers are with the victim.

NUCALIEAGLE,
I haven't had much to say reference the case against Dalis. We can just let the case follow the legal process, and wish the best outcome for the Victim and Suspect. Spoke to Dalis Dad and Mom today at practice, I can imagine what their feelings are. along with the Victims Family.

Just hope all of us can keep our feelings to ourselves, I know how when things happen, we all jump to conclusion(s). I can tell all of you this, the Parents of Dalis, had nothing but great words about Coach Baldwin, I noticed the "BIG HUGS" they both had for Coach Baldwin and Coach Adams. Coach Baldwin did make time to talk with the parents.
They had to rush and get out of Cheney, possibly for their flight back to California. Found out you are Dalis Uncle. Glad to have had an opportunity to communicate with you. Don't forget about us, this is an unfortunate situatiion, we just have to let the case take the Legal Process.

HannahO, I really enjoye reading your posts. You make so much sense when you post. I agree with your Great words reference this subject; Thank you very much. Below I will post some good news:

Vic, thanks for your kind words. We remember that day as well and echo the comments, WHERE does the time go?! It's hard to believe that class of young men will be graduating ... Sooo many good memories! Looking forward to seeing you and all the Eag fans in a week!

HannahO,

I feel that I, too, will be in your shoes way too soon, even though we have 4 yrs to go. Like anything else that you love, it goes way too fast. Hope we can meet up sometime the next couple weeks. So far, I've only met Vic and Clawman....need to put more faces to these handles.

Loloman
