The closed door 20 minute meeting after the game that Hinrichs had with Downing should pretty tell you the AD is not happy. You people who hate Hinrichs so much make me sick. If he didn't want to succeed and win he wouldn't have any such meeting.
Since when is the guy that hired a 1-12 coach that just got run out of his own stadium by a D2 school above criticism. Personally I am sure that both Hinrichs and Downing want to win and succeed - that is the only way they keep their job and everyone happy. Wanting to do something and actually doing it are two different things, however.

No one hopes more than me that Downing and Hinrichs turn this thing around this year. But as long as the Bears keep putting up embarrassing losses, you might want to prepare yourself that some bashing of the administration and coaching staff will occur.

What is your time fram for winning then? Jay hasn't given anyone the false idea we would be successfull right away. I think he's done a decent job in my book. He probably shouldn't have hired Downing but he did a great job in getting Tad Boyle as a b-ball coach and has hired the hottest d1 volleyball coach (honestly she's done a good job) and has kept baseball a float despite not having a conference and very little $$ support. You also must remember UNC doesn't get a lot of $$ from the state government for athletics either. He's got to rely on an apethetic alumni base. If you think you can do a better job jack -ass, write Kay Norten and let her know you're interested in the job.

So if someone disagrees with you your only response is to start calling them names. Brilliant!! Why don't you add something insightful instead of throwing around the most obvious things in the world like be nice because "Hinrichs wants to win." Wow thanks for that - that idea never crossed anyone's mind! You are also absolutely right that he should not be criticized because he hired a "hot volleyball coach" never mind the fact that the hotties record is 2-8. The one thing I do agree with you on is that Coach Boyle looks like a good hire - the BBall team was more competitive and showed signs of improvement (something the FB team has not even remotely done) but I still don't think a 4-23 first year record is enough for us to annoint Boyle and Hinrichs just yet.

The time frame for winning is now. Hinrichs rolled into town boasting about what a great fundraiser he was and this is one of the main reasons he got the job. He immediately alienated a lot of long time boosters and failed miserably on his promise to raise more money for the athletic department. To now throw the lack of money up as his main defense is absurd.

For the record I have spoken and written to Downing, Hinrichs and Kay Norton on my thoughts on the current state of the program. I also spend several days a year at UNC volunteering on various committees and dropping off my donations. I am not an AD nor do I claim to be but if I begin to fail miserably at my job I am sure I will be looking for another one - just like your buddy Jay better prepare himself for the possibility.

Open your eyes to what is going on. CU's AD was canned for a lot less than what is going on here. Our programs are the laughingstock of the Big Sky and the only news coverage we get is negative. Thankfully their have not been any attempted murders or hate crimes this year, but then again it is only the second week of the season. Sometimes you just have to take responsibility for your own actions in this world - maybe an apethetic alumni base could get energized with some positive news and a winning program. It is not the alumni's job to turn this around, it is the admins job.

CU's AD was fired for a lot less? Are you freaking kidding me? CU had scandle after scandle while he was there.

If I were to grade Hinrichs I would give him a B maybe a B-. BTW, in what ways has he isolated donars? Honestly, I would like to know.

We shouldnt be criticizing Hinrichs, but hes gonna get it whether you like it or not because he is the AD and there have been a couple of bad coaching changes made on his watch (Downing and unless we see improvement from WBB then lets add Jaime White to that list). I dont think the football issues should cost him his job, but Scott Downing has to go.

Another thing. I love how everyone talks about how bad an OC Chad Brown was last year when this year's team has been outscored 94-6 in two games.

You're joking right? CU did have scandals (and trust me I cannot stand CU), but do you really think they compare to our scandals. Honestly?

I would love to know where you get your grading system. How you can say he is above average (which I would call a C) is beyond me. How do you judge his success?

How has he isolated donors? By scrapping the history and wholesale coaching changes that were not popular among some long time boosters. What is it now anyway the Northern Colorado Athletic Fund, the Blue & Gold Club?

If I had to guess, you work in the AD's office and are rather fond of Jay. That is fine. No one is saying he is a bad guy. I also think that you are entitled to your opinion about what type of job he is doing. I am saying bring something more insightful in your arguments besides name calling / bashing everyone who opposes your view.

CU's scandals were way worse then ours. It wasn't any isolated incident like we had. They needed an entire culture change in the athletic dpt all around.

I've talked to Hinrichs three times in my entire life, so not I don't work in the AD. And the Blue and Gold Club is back.

I am glad there was a meeting after the game with Hinrichs and Downing. Tom Wright says that it was about 20 minutes long and all Tom got out of was that this kind of product on the field will not be acceptable. It doesn't take 20 minutes to say that so I am guessing Hinrichs really laid into him. Basically saying if something doesn't dramatacally improve you'll be gone. What ever you say about Hinrichs you have to admit he doesn't take crap.

No one hopes more than I that Hinrichs can turn it around. I'm glad to hear he is drawing a line in the sand for Downing and letting him know the score. There was a great turnout from the students which can really help build excitement in the program. When you lay an egg like that though and give them absolutely nothing to cheer about they won't come back.
