Coach Biaz and Coach O are great coaches and will land on their feet because they are talented and respected from the East Coast to West Coast. As a former player at UNLV and Sacramento State (1 year) I have never felt so sick to my stomach about the changes that have occurred the last week. I created a lot of problems for the program by 1 poor decision I made during a football game at Montana (something I will always regret and feel guilty about when reflecting on my senior season at Sacramento State.) I immediately apologized to each and every coach the following week because I knew that I made a selfish decision that made the entire program look bad.
What I can tell you about my experiences from working with Coach Osterhout and Coach Biaz is that they made me want to become a better Student-Athlete. One time Coach Osterhout caught me late to a class and noted that on time was late and only early was on time. I learned to be early and as a result I received an A+ in the class because I sure as hell did not what to let him or the program down. I learned early that Coach Biaz and Coach O caught everything and anything less than your best effort was not acceptable. I led the team in hustle violations in the Spring and was starting to doubt my abilities because I was not very good considering I was previously a TE converted to Defensive End. I finally learned the Hornet way by the end of spring ball and by Fall camp 4 days into double days I noted to the trainers that I had not slept in 4 days because I was having troubles sleeping at night because my mouth was watering all night and I was visualizing myself making plays and beating the offensive tackle in front of me and sacking the quarterback. Coach Biaz and Coach O could flat out coach and was nothing I experienced at UNLV besides my 1st TE Coach. I know they can coach because I was a terrible defensive end in Spring Ball and became a better player because of them. I would have ended my career a mediocre player if it were not for either of them and this is something I will always thank them for. The great thing about football is that there is no bs involved it is either beat the man in front of you or lose and if you lose get back up and try again. It was an emotional weekend for me and I can't even imagine how Coach Biaz and Coach O felt. A wise woman once told me that it is normal to express your emotions and okay to be pissed off, sad, but eventually you have to turn your stress into something positive that works.
I would like to wish both coaches the best and thank them for dedicating their lives to the Student-Athletes at Sacramento State. I would also like to wish the program the best. I am also greatful that when I ran the last leg of the CIM Sunday, when I was obvoiusly still upset about the firing, that I did not see Wanless or Sperbeck in front or near Sacramento State because I probably would have punched them both in the nose. A wise woman once told me that it is normal to express your emotions. Thank you for reading this long winded post. Sacramento State has been an important program to my family and that I am grateful but would not be truthful if I did not exress my disappointment and bad taste in my mouth...One day I will get mouthwash just probably won't be green or gold for sometime.
I believe this is Brad Osterhout, Jon's brother...He played at UNLV and transferred to Sac State and was involved in the Pam incident.
If it's really you, please convey to your brother and the rest of the family how sad we are that Jon was let go. The Osterhouts are synonymous with Sac State football and you guys will ALWAYS be Hornets for life. It saddens me, but I understand that you guys need space from the program. Jon will land on his feet somewhere and will eventually be a head coach...
All of you will always be welcome in the family.
