Friday the 13th! - USU Aggies

Maybe Coach Rahe is gearing us fans up for either a exciting upset, or a sort of disappointment? Maybe more of a understanding that the DEC matchup will be a veteran team vs. a younger, less experienced team (once again). Rahe says Aggie team may be the best team there in 4-5 years. Although Stew-less now.

Hopefully, no second half meltdown this time. Sure would be nice to get a win over the Aggies, how long has it been? Holy Cow !! :coffee:

I don't know if this is good or bad (probably bad for us) but the Aggies lost to D-II school Monterrey Bay by 17, a team that the Utes beat by about 50. I'm hoping this isn't a wake up call for USU. Weber needs to jump out of the gates early and keep the petal to the metal start to finish, no epic meltdowns this year.

Okay folks, Friday is game day. Roll Call!! Who's going to be at the Dee to watch the annual battle between the Cats and the Aggies? What should we expect?

I know that the Aggies were beat pretty handily by DII Cal State Monterrey (Davion Berry's former school) in their exhibition last week, but I really don't take too much stock in that loss. I keep hearing that this was Stew's most talented team handed to Duryea. They didn't lose much from last years squad that ended up having quite the season and putting some fear into the MW. I think the Aggies will be ready to play on Friday.

As for our Cats...I'm a bit worried about our defensive intensity and our bigs playing in the middle. We have to get tougher! That was a problem last season and in our exhibition game, it seemed like we were still struggling a bit to stay consistently tough. Defense is needed! We have very talented athletes and players who can shot the ball and play on the offensive side of the court, but we also need some guys to show up and play defense. Tough, hard-nosed play.

DO THE STUDENTS KNOW? Anything being done on campus to pass the word?

I totally agree. These lower division teams, quite often, have D1 talent that has slid to them in a variety of ways, and all it takes is one of their players to have an out of body experience and you lose that game. It happened to St John's as well. Many coaches will shake their lineups quite a bit to see how the kids will react and to give them fodder for getting after it in practice.

I would not consider their exhibition game to have much meaning. I would need to see the stats, see how long the starters were in the game, see the assists, turnovers, rebounding, and shooting stats, to make any kind of guess as to what might have happened. What ever happened, I am sure that the coach has their full attention now.

I expect Friday's game to be a barn burner. I hope we get a big crowd. I know that we have been putting in some new zone defenses, and that we are trying to speed up our attack. One thing I took away from our exhibition game was the effect of expanding the charge arc. Slashing to the basket will be a bigger part of the attack and shot blockers will be a premium. I think we are well equipped for both of those things. :coffee:

It seems this lucky Friday may be a start of a tradition for the 1st regular season game...instate matchups??
Besides Weber St-Utah State, there's SUU @ Utah, UVU @ BYU!! Interesting, while the Utes insist on it being at their place, & Coach Rahe has said the Wildcats are willing to play @ the Huntsman Ctr., why is Coach Larry K afraid to take on WSU but will schedule other BSC teams like SUU & Sac St.?!!! :coffee: :yikes:

Larry is only going to play teams that he knows he can easily beat. It's either a home and home or pay us to play, and to pay us and also lose to us is just too much for his little head to think about. After we kicked their asses the last time they visited the Dee, Larry said that he would never play here again. It's been a while, but it seems like it was a 30 point beatdown. Maybe we should have put the cheer leaders in and kept the score a little closer.

That's great Purple, and bring your Posse with you. I'll certainly have mine with me. Should be epic.

I just picked up some tickets. They hadn't released my season tickets yet. I guess they are still holding out for me. There are 10 homes that I would like to attend. If I just by individual tickets in the same area I save several hundred dollars.

Unfortunately i will not be there :(. nothing is posted on campus yet, there is nothing in the union building at all. its like they dont want the students to show up to the game.

I know, Sac. However, you guys are not recruiting against them for Utah kids. If SUU beats them this year, they will never play again. So, if SUU wants the payday in the future, they should plan to lose, or Larry will take his ball and go home.

I think Larry has extra hatred for Weber State. I think that the way we beat them and us being Weber played in to the decision.

So in other words...the Weber State vs. Utah State game is the best game being played in the state on Friday night? :thumb: Lets get a great partisan crowd at the Dee on Friday. Get the students out and make sure they are loud!

I can't comment on whether or not LK likes or dislikes Weber State. I don't know the man. However, the way he acts toward playing instate teams is pretty ridiculous. We all know, for better or worse, that coaches create their schedules. Because of that, we all know that there is something about the intended contest that LK doesn't like and so he won't schedule the Cats. It might have something to do with Randy, the way Weber beat the tar out of Utah when he first started coaching, or it is a holdover from the days when he played at Montana. Who knows...all I know is that it is absolutely COWARDLY that the Utes will not play Weber home and home or on a neutral court. I do agree, that it is our turn to play at the Huntsman Center and I'm all for a game there, but unless the Utes agree to another contract of multiple games or a major payday of 150 or 200 K I say screw them.

There should actually be a decent student section there. The Institute is pushing this game and having a tailgate before it. (Surprise right?). We'll see how loud or how much they cheer though... I just hope we can keep Aggies out of it but you let anyone in for free and that's what happens.

Brad vs USU in 2001-02 is one of just the few buzzer beater wins ive seen in person.

I'll be there with two others. At the exhibition game I saw my recently vacated season tix seats fully occupied. Assuming someone has picked them up, I hope they enjoy the season. Not that it was unexpected but I continue to find it surprising that WSU never called, asking me to renew tix I've held for so many seasons.
