Does anyone know who our FBS opponents are in 2014, 2016, and beyond? I know we're at U-Dub in 2015, but that's it. Been trying to reverse engineer it!

On a related note, Sac St is set to play SJSU to start the 2013 season. Many Cal State grads/fans on the Mt. West Conf. board feel it would be awesome to have rotating OOC FCS match ups against Sac St and Cal Poly only. Two reasons why: 1) keeps the money within the CSU system 2) Can go a long way in helping determine who the CSU champ really is now that the three FBS state schools are in the same conference. I hope to see Sac St vs SDSU and FS in the near future.

Good concept but It all comes down to money. The FBS games for FCS teams are not for rivalry, they are for payout.
The MW/WAC schools have traditionally paid far less than Pac 12 schools etc. Ideally I would rather see us be able to play one high payout game per year to meet our needs.

Right. They're body bag games. The B1G has announced that it will reduce or eliminate all together scheduling FCS opponents. The B1G and the PAC operate in similar fashion.

One PAC school has never hosted an FCS team and probably never will, USC. I wouldn't be surprised if the PAC opts out of scheduling FCS teams in the future. It might happen if the talk of a new NCAA sports division for the P5 becomes fruition. The PAC can select from an feeble FBS teams out there in the MAC, SB, CUSA and AAC and even the MWC.

I think you're right the trend will be for the major FBS Conferences to select lower level FBS conferences like the MWC for payout games rather than FCS. Unfortunately schools like San Jose State ave attendance about 10,000 and San Diego State ave attendance about 15,000 are not in a position to offer us much in terms of a payout. I would hate to see us locked in with them when we might be able get a better payout elsewhere.

Hey! Don't lie about my Aztecs! Hahaha. They average 30K, not including the bowl game (http://goaztecs.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/sdsu-m-footbl-CumulativeStats.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Payouts, aren't based solely on attendance figures either. How much more do the PAC schools pay? I believe the payout from the Oregon St game somewhere around a quarter of a million dollars. I want to say the same is true of CU. Not too much more than what the MWC schools pay for these games.

I got the attendance figures off the MWC Fan board that you mentioned. You can also get the official attendance from the NCAA Website. I don't think that the payout is directly governed by the attendance average. It does make sense that a school wouldn't pay for a home date if they expected to lose a ton of money on it. There is a major difference in payouts between the top conferences and lesser FBS conferences.
I recall when we played Fresno we made about $200.00. Stanford paid about $500.00, Oregon State and Colorado paid in the mid to high $400,00 range. Arizona State will probably also pay about $450.000, I doubt that San Jose will be much over $225,000. Hopefully our attendance and income will increase to the point that we can be more selective as to what FBS ( and how many)offers we accept.

will be great someday to have Hornet Stadium packed every game like the Montana schools and not have to have to schedule up....but until that time it has been great for the Hornet players and fans to get the big time exposure and to get some upsets along the way.

Coach Sperbeck was interviewed by Jason Ross of KHTK radio 1140am on Friday's Grant Napear show and Sperbeck said the players really like playing the big schools. He added that he doesn't mind not playing Montana St or Eastern Washington this season. He said that 33 new players signed in for the first time on Friday and everyone reports Sunday as practice begins. 33 sounds like quite a few brand new players to me.

This sounds about right. I assume you meant $200k and $500k for Fresno and Stanford, respectively.

I heard a rumor on the Booster Bus to San Jose that our FBS game next season will be Cal.

Yes Cal is next year and then up at Husky Stadium in 2015.
I think this was posted in the game notes. Here's to hoping there will be a booster bus next season. 8-)

I'm sure there will be. The Stanford bus was even better than the San Jose trip!

Cal should be great, sign me up today!

Be nice to see a few more buses full of students go to Berkeley. Maybe the Green Army can come up with the funds to rent some buses. And how bout the band traveling to an away game or two....chartering a bus or two is not that expensive...The Cal game in 2005 was the last time the band went to an away game other then Davis. Sorry to see no band at the Stanford game a few years back and the SJSU game last Thursday.
You would see the Sac State band and cheer teams at more away games back in the D IIdays than now.

The band went to Fresno State in 2007 and I think to UNLV in 2009. Other than that, I saw on their website they are not going to the Cal Poly game either. They are doing some high school band thing in Santa Cruz. That's a real shame because if you are going to Santa Cruz, its not that much further going down 101 to SLO. :ohno:

Any chance we see Nevada on the schedule in the future? I'm one who would abdicate for Cal State games to keep the money local, but Nevada would make a nice bus trip/traveling game. Might even be able to convince the wife to make the trek.

So, is this approximately our schedule next year?

OOC

@CAL
v. NAIA
v. Non-Conf BSC Game (PSU/UND?)

BSC

v. MSU - LOCK
v. Cal Poly - LOCK
v. EWU - LOCK

@SUU - LOCK
@UM - LOCK
@UCD - LOCK

Who are the 10th and 11th games?

Sac State's 2014 Big Sky conference schedule:

Sept. 27th - @ ISU
Oct. 4th - MSU
Oct. 11th - @ UNC
Oct. 18th - Cal Poly
Oct. 25th - open
Nov. 1st - @ UM
Nov. 8th - SUU
Nov. 15th - PSU
Nov. 22nd - @ UCD

I heard the Cal game will for sure be a Saturday game. Also heard we have another direction Oregon coming to town (one that beat SOU). I think next season is another 12 game schedule so that leaves room for 2 more OOC games. Looks like the only cupcakes missing from next season’s BSC schedule are UND and Weber so we should get on the phone with them ASAP. If we schedule another money game instead of an FCS opponent then we can forget about the playoffs for next season as well.
