Future Schedules

I sure hope Oregon QB Marcus Mariota declares before next year! He is exactly the type we struggle with at the FCS level, it would get real ugly if he is still around next season.

He's Gone! He will be a Top 5 pick in the NFL Draft and has taken a pounding this year with a weak o-line. No reason to come back.

Currently we do not have a game scheduled for August 29 2015. Any ideas on who we may play? Seeing how important D1 wins are I hope it is not a DII school

I would assume we'd be trying to put that Northern Iowa game up for the ESPN kickoff. Obviously, that's a great intersectional matchup between teams likely to both be top 10.

I heard a rumor that most FCS teams are fighting the NCAA because they've only allotted 12 weeks of game time for FCS schools, meaning anyone wanting a bye week can only schedule 11 games. Given how everyone is pretty well locked into 12 game seasons now, the thought was the NCAA would relent and open up a week earlier.

It would suck to only have 5 home games next year.

Misprint on Senior Day, Im sure thas the PSU home game.

Horrific. It doesn't get much uglier than this. One damn home game until October 10. We really need to be a minimum of 2-2 in September to have any legitimate shot at a playoff run. 3-1 would be awfully nice, but this thing is stacked against us.

I'm not quite sure why whenever we look for out of conference teams, we seem to schedule a monster. It sure would be nice to get some FCS paddycake on the schedule.

I think 2-2 will be easy enough. UNI lost their offensive weapon in David Johnson. They are hit hard in other areas as well. As weak as our defense is, they should be able to do enough damage to pull out the win. Sacramento will be a cakewalk without Saffron. Montana St. will be a tough one with Bleskin. Oregon will slap us around like a redheaded step child.

Sac State is one of the few teams who've had some modicum of success against Eastern in the last decade that isn't named Montana or Portland State. They aren't a gimme, especially if we don't build some confidence in those early games. We've NEVER beaten UNI in the dome... that place has laid waste to some GREAT Eagle teams of the past. Plus, UNI always seems to be a monster early in the season. They tend to go the way of Montana State and always fade late in the year.

Frankly, I have no idea why we ALWAYS seem to find highly ranked teams for non-con opponents. It seems like our AD is a glutton for punishment. Why schedule Sam Houston State when you can schedule Houston Baptist from the Southland? Why schedule UNI or North Dakota State instead of Missouri State or Western Illinois from the MVC?

Or better yet, why not load up on some Pioneer or MEAC joker? Butler has some amount of name-recognition due to their success in basketball, and they would probably fall out of their seat to get a home game against an FCS power... is that not a better game for us to take as a home-home? Teams like Southern in Louisiana draw great, and they rarely play legit FCS contenders... maybe they'd jump at a chance to play Eastern in a home-home? It just seems like there are a lot of options out there besides the top teams of the Southland and MVC each and every year...

The playoff committee certainly isn't going to put a strike on Eastern based on strength of schedule; we ALWAYS are among the top 10-12 in the country. Even if you took UNI off and replaced with Butler, we'd likely be in the top 20 for schedule difficulty.

Maybe this game will help us reconsider our terrible scheduling the past six years…

Marceagfan5, what would be your optimum schedule? Light-weight non-conference FCS teams and one FBS money game?

No control over conference games, so I will only speak for non conf...

DREAM SCENARIO - No FBS games unless its a 12 game season. Play a good FCS team with one year away one year home, play a lower level FCS team at home, D2 at home.

REALISTIC SCENARIO - 1 FBS game, 1 D2 or Lower level FCS team at home, 1 good FCS team one year home, one year away. This scenario gives us 6 home games every other year, something which is a rarity for us...

Most seasons are 11 game seasons and we always get 5 effin home games and 6 road games. Griz fans and MSU fans would burn their stadium down if they only played 5 home games. Hell, we only played 4 in 2011.

HOPEFULLY we have moved away from the 2 FBS games, those are a joke. But....we still have 1 FBS game and now 2 really tough FCS games every year, that still makes for a brutal schedule year in, year out.

What is best for EWU is making the playoffs and playing home games. If we are not seeded, we will not win bids for home games. To get seeded, you need to have a 2 loss or better record. The big sky is tough enough, no need to make it worse with brutal non conf schedules...

AMEN! The shitty thing is now we come in beat up to play Montana State... who is totally fresh. And it's a must-win. I realize we could theoretically lose and still make the playoffs, but running 8 in a row is highly unlikely. Even at 8-3, odds are you win up playing in the first round, and since the playoffs have moved to the current format, no one has ever advanced to the championship game from the first round brackets.

Not quite sure why this isn't recognized by our AD. It's not like we make $$$ playing UNI. Why not payout $100k to anyone from the MEAC/Pioneer/NEC who'll take the game in Cheney? Those lesser FCS teams need games on their schedule, too... and taking $100k from Eastern or even getting a home-home against an FCS power would be a great deal for them.

Shit, North Dakota and Montana State have each hooked up games with Drake recently. Montana State went out and secured East Tennessee (startup program) ofr a game in Bozo this year.

I'm SURE you know the details of the Bison an Bobcats deals or surely you would be blabbing about what you are not aware.
