GET THE STUDENTS OUT

about watching the games. we cant do it as much because once again our budget. but i have offered anyone that wants to watch the games is more than welcome at my house we can fit enough people there to watch the games. tal was over for the PSU game and it was a blast
Was that some kind of a man date? Please tell me you 2 didn't share popcorn and a drink.

The Turnover chant is fine, but sometimes it gets to a point you cant stand with some chants. I’m in the student section every game and will go along with whatever chant is being said. But, in the U of U game after Watkins air-balled his shot they chanted it the remainder of the game whenever he would touch the ball. It starts getting embarrassing at a point to keep doing a chant like that. I know for me and my group of 6-8 friends that come we get tired of chanting air-ball every time he touches it, you do it for the next few possessions then you move on. I don’t mind the defense chants, WSU chants, etc.

would it be/ could it be possible to have the away games viewed at the DEC? I think if you did that, you would generate a lot of student involvement.. while there watching in the seats, everyone could get informed about upcoming games, ideas, chants etc. I know that something like that is appealing to college kids.... ;-)

The Dee would be expensive, we had a volleyball scrimmage between the club men's team and the women's team we had to raise money/sell tickets to pay for a few ushers. I would think the student Union or Alumni buildings would be more ideal.

How about a flyer on every door and office on the campus advertising Weber State basketball? How is it the "fastest growing campus in Utah" is having such a hard time with getting money for advertising? I'm tired of seeing the BwhyU posters all over the place

I live out in West Point and I go to the Syracuse Stadium 6 movie theater, they have Utah State adds showing before the movies, Why cant Weber do that? They need to get the City of Ogden behind them
I have been up to Logan, and there isnt a building up there that doesnt have a USU logo in a window, how many Weber State things do you see in Ogden? None

By the way, this is the most active this form has been in a while over one topic, all the other Big Sky boards are D. E. D

im glad to hear about you and your friends enjoying the games. i somewhat disagree though when you mentioned the air-ball chant. i thought that was the best student section chant at wsu in years. it was pretty good and loud and clear every time he touched the ball. that is the kind of thing we want at games. it is definitely not embarrassing. the rest of the crowd was enjoying the air ball chant and i can guarantee our team enjoyed it especailly since that was utah's only good player.

students can affect the game even if they dont think they are. i would take a crowd of 4,000 if 2,000 were students any day over 10,000 with 100 students.

you should be tired and your voice should hurt at the end of each game! :thumb: our student section has been pretty good, it has plenty of potential. it just takes a while to get everyone involved and knowing what is going on. if every student can one extra student to come to the next game they will keep coming back. all you need to see is this team play. i guess beating utah and usu wasnt quite enough. school is back in. i hope to see a big student section on saturday.

Honestly, we all have to admit that USU's student section looks very, I guess we are utilizing the term, "Non-Hetro" for entire games. But, ask anyone who goes to those games who are in that section what they think of it. USU games are the most important thing in Logan throughout the Winter, if not the entire year. It is the place to be, the way to act, and the right type of attitude. Yes, they do a lot of really idiotic things, but it works for them. No Weber isn't in Logan, but we have a great facility, large student body, and an amazing tradition. Ask any old-time fan how they became a Weber State fan, and you'll be shocked by the reply. 90% of the time the answer will be "When I was a Student." The point is to go to a game, have fun, support the team, and build some school pride. Yes, college is a time to learn, grow, and progress, but it is also a time to be thoroughly enjoyed. Weber needs to do a better job of teaching that. I can't stand that the university has advisors who don't TEACH these principles, who don't excite their proteges, and get more out of their student leaders. NO ONE LEADS at Weber. College is something to be experienced. One of my favorite moments of college isn't from a class I took, or a job I had, but from what I DID. To chill at the Bell Tower with Catdcat, Bengalhater, DJ Stryde, and many others and get students excited and involved. I can't say it was only me, we had great leaders, Kyle, Brody, Pete, Steve, the V brothers...These are guys I have absolute respect for, because they took their positions and went beyond what they were supposed to do. Did we always agree? No, but we were all working towards something great. We would have killed to have had teams like the school has now. Yes, we did have Supa-Man!! Nonetheless, if you want more people involved/donating in the future you have to convert them NOW, when they are in school and impressionable. My best moments were at the Dee, Bell Tower, or with my brothers. Too bad students don't want to experience College.

I'm calling out the President of the WSUSA. He knows far to well what is expected of him and he has, in my opinion, failed. He is a friend, someone I admire, but I'm really disappointed. Also, I'm disappointed in the SAA advisor. She is responsible for maintaining traditions and building a stronger more loyal fan base. Thats why she works in Alumni. The hope is these current students become life long supporters.

How to make things happen: Don't argue amongst each other. There are some cheers that are dumb, yes, but nobody is perfect, nobody knows what the perfect cheer is. All that matters is that you support what you have and try to create something knew, while building a stronger fan base. What is important is that you keep students excited and coming to games. GET THE MESSAGE OUT. I told this to the marketing gurus four or five times this past year. Who cares about Half-times if nobody is there. GET THE WORD OUT... Who cares about promotions if nobody is there to participate in them...YOUR JOB IS TO FILL THE STADIUM...if your cliental doesn't know about the event, THEN YOU HAVE FAILED. It isn't hard to put up signs, posters, send out texts and emails. Music, food, and information...thats all you need. Get the dancers or cheerleaders to pass out some flyers. Isn't that what Bovee said they were intended to do from now on? What about rallies, fires, and flyers. DO THOSE THINGS THAT WILL BUILD. You'll have nothing to grip about if you are truly doing your best, and you'll be able to look back and be proud of what you accomplished. If Catdbagcat and I can do it, anyone can.

I love every Weber game!!! We were actually the front row people who paint our chest at the USU game, and hold up signs at the Weber game :-D

I also agree it was a great chant and I'm not saying don't do it, because it's one of the best in college basketball, but it happened in the first half and when we were still doing it midway through the second half, I was a little thrown off by saying it. I would much rather be yelling defence or something like that

On a side note...its great to hear we have fans like Maddag, Bigpapa, Dubs, and WSUfans. Thanks for caring, that is the first and most important step.

Maybe someone should emerge and create a new type of student club/group/association that promotes student attendance to games. Maybe come up with a new acronym kinda like the PPAK has. Maybe call it "Wildcat Fever" or something. Something that the normal student can associate the group of students that cheer at the game.

Dubs gave me this idea, but what if everytime Lillard made a shot the students all started doing this.

:notworthy:

word just needs to get spread on campus, make students aware and excited to come see a game. it should be a pretty easy sell this yr. just everyone tell them we beat usu and utah by a combined 40 pts this yr.

i guess these people never were here when waters was on PSU. we would chant his name the entire game to get in his head. chanting air ball the entire game got in that dudes head he wouldnt hold the ball for longer than 2 seconds so in my mind we didnt do it too much. its all about getting in the other teams head no matter how annoying we are. when PSU comes back down here this year i fully expect to be that annoying to odum and tapescott. weather people support me or not thats what im going to do.

now for those of you who want some new chants. i sit in seat 13 on the front row anyone is welcome to come talk to me down there about some new chants i welcome it. i also welcome anyone else starting a cheer in the student section it will help save my voice ;)

that video is only half of it. but it would go on and on all night every time he touched the ball everytime PSU was here

personally, i am a huge fan of the turnover chant. Just having more students there would make it a lot better. I sit by a bunch of older, non student fans, and they all get a good laugh every time the students break out the chant.

I think the point is to have us all give an effort to get students out. The chants, they don't matter near as much as actually having students there. There are plenty of Weber students that love basketball but have no clue about Weber's history or current team. I know plenty that are willing to drive to Logan or Provo and pay to go to games. It's time to hype Lillard. Hate to bring this up but, look what Jimmer did for BYU last year. Tons, jumped on the bang wagon. Most of our student body don't even know who Dam is. I for one am sick of arguing with Weber students about our own team. The attitude is not just in sports but everything and we can all help that to change. Stop saying "just Weber" as an answer for anything! Flyers, texts, calls, and e-mails work. Tell people to pass it along and do one at a time.
