Honestly, we all have to admit that USU's student section looks very, I guess we are utilizing the term, "Non-Hetro" for entire games. But, ask anyone who goes to those games who are in that section what they think of it. USU games are the most important thing in Logan throughout the Winter, if not the entire year. It is the place to be, the way to act, and the right type of attitude. Yes, they do a lot of really idiotic things, but it works for them. No Weber isn't in Logan, but we have a great facility, large student body, and an amazing tradition. Ask any old-time fan how they became a Weber State fan, and you'll be shocked by the reply. 90% of the time the answer will be "When I was a Student." The point is to go to a game, have fun, support the team, and build some school pride. Yes, college is a time to learn, grow, and progress, but it is also a time to be thoroughly enjoyed. Weber needs to do a better job of teaching that. I can't stand that the university has advisors who don't TEACH these principles, who don't excite their proteges, and get more out of their student leaders. NO ONE LEADS at Weber. College is something to be experienced. One of my favorite moments of college isn't from a class I took, or a job I had, but from what I DID. To chill at the Bell Tower with Catdcat, Bengalhater, DJ Stryde, and many others and get students excited and involved. I can't say it was only me, we had great leaders, Kyle, Brody, Pete, Steve, the V brothers...These are guys I have absolute respect for, because they took their positions and went beyond what they were supposed to do. Did we always agree? No, but we were all working towards something great. We would have killed to have had teams like the school has now. Yes, we did have Supa-Man!! Nonetheless, if you want more people involved/donating in the future you have to convert them NOW, when they are in school and impressionable. My best moments were at the Dee, Bell Tower, or with my brothers. Too bad students don't want to experience College.
I'm calling out the President of the WSUSA. He knows far to well what is expected of him and he has, in my opinion, failed. He is a friend, someone I admire, but I'm really disappointed. Also, I'm disappointed in the SAA advisor. She is responsible for maintaining traditions and building a stronger more loyal fan base. Thats why she works in Alumni. The hope is these current students become life long supporters.
How to make things happen: Don't argue amongst each other. There are some cheers that are dumb, yes, but nobody is perfect, nobody knows what the perfect cheer is. All that matters is that you support what you have and try to create something knew, while building a stronger fan base. What is important is that you keep students excited and coming to games. GET THE MESSAGE OUT. I told this to the marketing gurus four or five times this past year. Who cares about Half-times if nobody is there. GET THE WORD OUT... Who cares about promotions if nobody is there to participate in them...YOUR JOB IS TO FILL THE STADIUM...if your cliental doesn't know about the event, THEN YOU HAVE FAILED. It isn't hard to put up signs, posters, send out texts and emails. Music, food, and information...thats all you need. Get the dancers or cheerleaders to pass out some flyers. Isn't that what Bovee said they were intended to do from now on? What about rallies, fires, and flyers. DO THOSE THINGS THAT WILL BUILD. You'll have nothing to grip about if you are truly doing your best, and you'll be able to look back and be proud of what you accomplished. If Catdbagcat and I can do it, anyone can.
