Grading the Season

Plus Side - The product on the floor was improved from the previous year. Maybe only slightly, but better.

Minus Side - Players seemed to have more potential than the outcomes would indicate. The team is still way too predictable on both sides of the ball. Still seem to lack defensive stoppers in the front court.

Grade - C Disappointing Season, even with lowered expectations from the previous season.

Agree with your post. Since we finished 6 out of 10 teams, I would put that at 60% and give it a D or D-. It’s better than last year, but wasn’t a big improvement that was promised after the money injection and making Lillard the GM.

D+/C-. This program is not getting better. Going from a D- to a D+ is improvement, but not what was expected with more funding. Lets be honest, in the Big Sky conference, we have some of the best facilities, history, fans, support and funding. So, who or what is the issue?!? Randy was always as good as his assistants. When he had really good assistants, that program was incredible. BUT, when he didn't, the program was workmanlike at best. Don't get me wrong Coach Rahe was an excellent coach. BUT, he wasn't Superman. He needed good help.

On the flip side, I feel there are a couple of pretty good assistant coaches on the bench. Because of them, the team is better than expected. I could be wrong. Please tell me if I am. Nevertheless, is four years enough time to get an idea of how good a coach is or will be?

I was glad to see they fought hard in the second half of the season and made some strides, but still underperforming for the talent we have, and I think that is the best way to sum up Rahe's last few years and all of Duft's head coaching career. This experiment has failed, I know we could get a better coach for the advantages and salary WSU offers. It's past time to move on.

I can certainly see the argument for D+ or C-.

I try to be as analytical as possible. It's not always easy. I ask myself if I feel that our failures are on the player's side or in coaching. I think it is a little of both. We have had excellent team members on both sides of that in the past. We are a bit spoiled in that regard. Making changes to the player side or the coaching side, may or may not give us the results we are after. So, when is it time to make a change? I really don't know. That is above my pay grade. Of course, everything is above my pay grade. ;-)

I actually agree with Olds assessment for the most part. Kudos to you for finally giving a just opinion of this program. I’ve been saying it years now, Duft is not a good coach. Players are recruited by this staff which means it is on the coaches for recruiting “bad” players. Please let’s get a competent coach who can take us to the promised lanfd
