Gubrud transfering

Happy he might get another year. Hope it is at a FBS School. Lucky we made it to 15 games so he falls under that less then 1/3 of our games rule. Best of luck Gage!

Rumors swirling that he may be headed to Wazzu. I sure hope he winds up at a good place. Tough to see him leave, although it doesnt sound certain yet

Tough yes...loved how he mentored EB3 and it wasn't a sour grapes situation. I think WSU would be a perfect fit for him. There isn't anyway we can block him from going to certain schools is there? Because I know one UCDAVIS could use a QB...:-(

Isn't it standard fare to restrict transfers within the conference? I think some won't grant releases to an opponent on the next year's schedule when for out of conference.

I can't imagine going through all this to end up at another FCS school. Few FCS teams will develop him as well as EWU can. Heck there are a lot of FBS programs that can't compete with EWUs qb development.

Totally agree. Someone floated him going to Cal. Which would be awesome considering their QB play was a struggle.

Whatever works out for Gage's future, he will always be an Eagle and we'll continue enjoying the memories of his football skills. Thanks to him for all he's given to Eastern and its fans everywhere. Good luck Gage!

Doubt it, I think Maier has one more year...if he goes FCS, which I doubt, but if he does one other landing spot would be Sac State with Troy Taylor the new HC. LOVE to see him with Coach Hill in Boise.

Wouldn't a 6th year be based on an injury over two years? He redshirted, then saw limited playing time his freshman year but was the kick holder the entire year. Was the starter his soph/junior year and then played 5 games this year. Would be tough to see how the NCAA grants this. I hope the best for Gage if he does get a shot, he elevated our program!

I would be totally shocked if he goes to an FCS team. If he has NFL aspirations, he should try to get a year at a Power 5 school. He could start immediately at all but a small handful.

Would someone like to create a diagram with the sidelines and mainline of the progressions of EWU quarterbacks beginning in 2014 to a 2019 possibility at WSU with short explanations including related stuff at Oregon State, CWU and WSU? (I tried to explain this to my wife this morning, but lack all the intervening facts.)

Apparently the rule is 1/3 rd of the games played and Eag's played 15 games this season... Who knows what the NCAA will do.

GG says in article that it's down to WSU or Utah... Nothing about when NCAA would rule on his eligibility or why either of those two schools is preferable. It doesn't seem like either actually has a need. Minshew was a stop gap after the tragedy with WSU's heir apparent but the Cougs have moved past that now and have some very capable young QB's and Utah has two guys who can and have started...

It would be very hard for me to imagine Gubrud doesn’t instantly become “the guy” if he goes to Wazzu or Utah. He’s probably one of the best 10 QBs in the country that will likely be on rosters next year.

I was talking to a big WSU booster last week and he said there is some pushback on bringing in another one-year transfer QB. I told him that is understandable, but if it means the difference between being 5-7 and 9-3, it’s a no-brainer. Leach isn’t going to allow his team to get worse if a better option is available.

At WSU the Helinski saga set their QB development back a bit. Helinski should have been the guy last year and this year. Those other quarterbacks are young and under developed. WSU has to make a choice, play a young guy in the system and get him ready, possibly taking some bumps and bruises along the way, or take the grad transfer and work with those young guys another year to get them ready. Tough decisions all around, and I can see the push-back from big boosters, but it's a developed QB vs an undeveloped younger qb situation for Leach. And when your job is always on the line as a big school coach, I think the choice for him may be easy.
