Gubrud transfering

Anyone know the status of the other players who have asked for another year due to previous injuries?

Sounds like he was denied waiver...

From what I understand, that was expected. I think the thought was always that he’d have to appeal. Supposedly, the appeals process adds some leniency to the rulings. However, this is only rumor as I know very little about these newer transfer rules and eligibility requirements.

I thought it would be tough for him regardless...Realistically in his 5 year college career, he only missed 6 games due to injury, tough to grant a 6th year for that...

Dang it they cut the feed when Best started talking about him during the national letter of intent interview...wanted to hear what he had to say besides EWU is not a part of the process.

I’m surprised more of you aren’t disappointed in hearing about this transfer. Back to back All-American seasons, he gets hurt against MSU and now he wants to transfer? What happened to all that EKG talk? Looks like he wants to be a CKG now. :coffee:

I’d love to see him back at Eastern for a sixth year. But there’s a serious issue. All the coaches expected last year to be his final season, and the plans were already in place for succession. How fair would it be to either Gubrud or Barriere to have a QB controversy going into the season?

It’s a no-win for the coaches. You can’t demote Gubrud based on his excellent body of work. You can’t demote Barriere based on the fact this upcoming year was supposed to his first running the show, and on top of that, he was marvelous last year. Neither guy deserves to be a back-up.

If Gubrud wants to continue playing football as a professional, he needs to show his stuff. Getting only 50% of the snaps at Eastern isn’t going to get it done for him.

Hope GG gets a chance to play football somewhere if that's his dream is to keep playing. He gave his heart, soul, blood , sweat and tears to the program so I wish him the best no matter what. Thanks GG your EKG personified.

I see GG won his appeal and will be enrolling at wazzu. I like Gauge but not the cougs. Oh well show them how it done and good luck!

Good for him, but not going to lie...soured on him after his "incident" last year. Still admire the fact as a former walk on what he was able to accomplish.

Now you clowns are going to tell me you’re happy watching Gage crack a smile in that WSU jersey!?

F*Ck Gage Gubrud! :coffee:
I am not a clown and more then happy to see EB3 behind center.

I was really disappointed when VA transferred. But it seems like this type of thing is happening more and more. I can't blame Gage, I think it would be a very odd scenario next year if he were spending his extra year of eligibility he just received here. I think Barriere is plenty capable.

I think it will be the risk of having great players going forward. Some will choose to stay, like Kupp, and some may choose to pursue other options. Heck, that just seems to be athletics these days, a constant sea of change. Do you think recruits look at a great career at EWU as a potential opportunity to play their last year at a P5? And is that a bad thing?

No doubt. EB3 is easily the best QB in the league. I don't believe Gage wouldn't have won the job in Cheney had he stayed. He needed to move on and I wish him all the best. I'll be rooting hard for him in Pullman. He still has to win that job down there though. WSU has more than capable QB's to run the show already so I'll be impressed if he can win the job.

go eags!

Gubrud transferring was the best thing he could do, for both Eastern and himself. Gets himself a gig in an offense that throws 50+ times a game and doesn't create drama for Eastern's starting QB spot had he stayed.

I'm so happy this worked out for Gabe, certainly he has made the very best of the injury, and I wish him the very best of success and luck. Wherever he plays, he's a super EKG. His records at Eastern attest to the excellence he brought to Cheney. Been a long time since I followed and rooted for the Cougies, but I will be in '19.

What disappoints me most are the uncalled for nasty comments I've seen posted here by individuals whom I've previously admired for their insight and conference knowledge. Gage Gubrud's contributions to EWU, teammates, fellow students and fans is monumental. I doubt the EKGs we follow at the NFL could have achieved their levels of college experience fame minus the abilities of Mr. Gubrud. His departure is far different from the motive of Vernon Adams whom we all wished well, or for those who previously departed early for NFL $.

Crap! I remember some of you bitchin when Coach Baldwin selected Gage over Riley, then the 2016 season when Eastern went undefeated in conference then lost the semi-final playoff game only because of a fluke. 2018, Gage was leading Eastern toward another championship until the injury. Remember? Hoping you whiners get over your attitudes, and support EB and our 2019 team. Go Eags!

To be clear the loss was not because of a fluke catch, it should never have gotten to that point, it was just crappy defense allowing them to drive the length of the field in just a couple of minutes.

If he stays healthy, and assuming the couple of receivers WSU were missing last year also wind up healthy, I could easily see Gubrud leading the Pac-12 in passing... and I suspect he'll be very close to leading the whole FBS in passing.

I remember being at the 2017 game at Montana when Gage lit up the Grizz with a major second half comeback. We did not have all of the the talent at receiver in 2017 and he played his heart out. Gage has had to overcome a lot of adversity as a QB and he will lead the Cougars to a major bowl game in 2019. Gage will always be an Eagle!! Good luck to Gage!!!
