What I heard from a players girlfriend Saturday is that it's the ligament in the big toe (essentially turf toe). He's can skip surgery and wait for it to heal but miss most of the year or get surgery, miss the rest of his senior year and prepare for the pros.

Again, this is what i heard. I like Gage and if it's the case, I feel for him if this is how his senior year goes. But I am confident in EB3 and how well this team is coming together.

I think the decision boils down to whatever's best for Gage. If he has professional aspirations, then maybe sitting the rest of the season out is what's best for him. On the other hand, I know he wants to win a national championship. Tough call.

The other thing is to consider is whether a 70% Gubrud is better than a 100% EB3. Maybe, but one of the main things that makes Gage so dangerous is his mobility. And Eric has plenty of that...he just doesn't have quite the arm. Yet.

EB3 has an incredibly strong arm, just lacks the experience to date. If we get past Weber we will go 10-1 regardless who starts...

Hope Gage heals up for whichever direction he decides to go...

Big arm but maybe not as accurate from what I’ve seen.

Big arm, he was definitely working on touch against SUU and the receivers let him down on a few plays. Given weeks to work with the 1st team, he may be masterful when playoff's roll around. Just needs to stick it in there and let the WR's work for him..

Lucky;
And why do you feel he will suddenly get more accurate? He has been practicing with the Eagles for 3 years now, if he is not more accurate than shown in the SUU game why will he be better on intermediate passes @ Weber?

I agree that accuracy doesn’t just improve over night, but when you’re throwing at a moving target more reps with those moving targets can improve completion percentages a lot.

If that is true how bad was he when he came to campus? I am not saying he is bad now but what has been happening the last three years?
I am violating my own cardinal rule here by criticizing an individual player. I do think EB3 will be a great QB for Eastern. Fun to watch!

Every quarterback looks good in practice, It’s nearly impossible to give them game style reps in practice, that’s done by actually playing. The kid has only started two games, and he’s only seen very limited action besides that. He will get reps with the first team receivers And the more game experience he gets, the better his accuracy will get it… He’s going to be a superstar when it’s all said and done

Totally agree, getting reps at game speed will only help him.

Kimble, Boyce, Kauffman, Herd, Edwards, Hill, Bourne, Kupp and you can add your names to some unbelievable receivers we've seen in Cheney. Our receivers need to step up too and take us to Frisco. Others will disagree and this is obviously hard to believe considering our recent history but that may be our weakest position group this season.

Watched some of the replay on ROOT last night and we have a championship defense. Our QB will do enough for us to win games and this team will leave no doubt. Going 8-0 is an awesome achievement and after our win in Ogden this team will rest a week and then make a 4-0 run into Thanksgiving. Playoff games on the Red come December, don't make travel plans that don't end in Cheney.

Feel bad for GG but maybe there’s still some hope he could return at some point. As for EB3, the receivers really need to step up to help this young man out as the season progresses. Hopefully that will start this Saturday.

He'll be back. Not sure where the doom and gloom on Gubrud is coming from. The team was supposed to get a prognosis today on whether he'll be ready to go on Saturday. If he isn't, one would certainly assume he'll be back after the bye week.

This is what I've been thinking. Not sure why everyone is so willing to write his season off.

 Who said he would be "more accurate" or mentioned "Weber"? Seeing Eric first hand this week was pleased with his poise, arm strength and thought if the team has to ride him the rest of the season, he can get it done. It is a team effort. Especially when you lose a three year starter.

Would like to see him let it rip and trust the WR's to make catches, of course; WR's need to step up and make plays. Loved how they blocked on several runs and the big scramble play.

Hope GG makes it back healthy, not seeing much information on that front though. He's the starter if available. If he's hobbled though, Eric is capable of steering the ship with the talent around him.

Whoa.... Based on that logic, all seniors should be All-Americans! Qb isn’t one of those positions where you can sneak a backup in there for a drive or two. Game experience is everything my friend, and when the All-American went down, this kid DELIVERED! I believe both QBs are capable & I hope Gage is fine.

Agreed, reminds me of Bo Levi Mitchell @ his first in Nevada. He was throwing it ALL over, in fact listening to coach Ault in post game interview on their local radio he said we soon realized we didn't need to cover more than 20 yds down field because he could not connect anyway! It kind of worked out for BLM.

While I tend to agree, I think UC-Davis will be a tougher test than Weber.

But this team is on a mission to Leave No Doubt...

Maybe, but there is no way they are going to win at Eastern in mid November… It just won’t happen
