Any word on Gage?

Didn't travel. EB3 will start.

Gage travelled but still in a boot.

Kinda what everyone expected. The good news is we have the bye coming up prior to the Idaho game. Theoreticcally GG could only end up missing two games if his injury is something that can heal up in 4-5 weeks.

In the meantime getting to watch EB3 has been a lot of fun. I almost forgot that we have a 3-start QB redshirting this year, Simon Burkett. He’s also going to be a good one.

I was very surprised Talkington didn't get time today. I figured the hand we were playing was bad enough that we may as well have folded and started over with a different QB. I don't want to beat Barriere up too much- anyone can have a bad game- but he just went from bad to worse over the course of the game and it was pretty obvious early on that he was just completely out of synch.

I thought the same thing. The other thing I don’t understand is why when Eric was struggling throwing the ball (19-42 w/ 2 ints), why not run him more?

Dpoa and ML;
How can you make such a conclusion from one game? Last week you had all the confidence in the world now you want him pulled. And the MOST ironic part is neither of you see practices yet you know it all.

I thought he should be pulled because he was AWFUL today. If Gubrud was that out of sorts, I'd recommend him being pulled too. Sometimes guys have a rotten day at the office, and clearly this was Barriere's rotten day. When that happens, why not put the next guy in there?

It's not a character assessment, it's just the way things are. For whatever reason, Barriere couldn't move the ball and, as a result, our offense couldn't have found the end zone with a map.

By the way, I always knew it was going to be tough without Gubrud. He's probably the best player on the team, and you can't just replace a guy that has done so much.

Gubrud made the trip and wasn't ruled out until Thursday. Logic would dictate he'll be back in two weeks. We're talking about a toe injury. Honestly, I'm pretty surprised he's missed two weeks.

It's good that Gage was on the sidelines today, a little more education for him and the opportunity to provide EB3 with some seasoned expert mentoring. Gage has reached the football experience/education that he's not delayed thinking what to do,and mobilizing, but in dynamic sync for, and with rapidly advancing complex fluid expectations, actions and reactions. Cooper Kupp developed those abilities to near perfection, as did Vernon Adams, Jr., and Gage Gubrud, as will EB3. My prayers for Gabe's full recovery continue.

My wife and I were on the field several years ago in MSU when we won the game with Defense. A blocked punt and a great interception at the end of the 4th quarter. VA was just starting his career and as he sat on the bench next to us you could see in his eyes the game and defense he was seeing, was way to fast and complex for him to read and analyze. With one of the best defenses we will see this year including play offs, the game was just to fast and complicated for EB3. This game was a win with GG.

So given this performance does Best think about pulling Burkets RS?

Extremely doubtful, unless we run into a situation where Barriere gets injured.

With the new rule this year he can play four games without losing his redshirt.

Gunner Talkington is another young gun that may be a capable backup, some playing time may do him good.

I had thought that to be the case as well, but it isn't. You can play in up to four games and still redshirt, but they have to be the first four games. The only caveat to that is if you get injured and are unable to play further with four or less games played, you can apply for a medical redshirt.

hmmmm Dopa, thought it was four games as well and not restricted to just the first four games. Can't find where it's clearly defined as only the 1st four.
