Head Coach Situation

Hornets are in a bye week. 2 more games left. I am very interested to see what happens these last 2 weeks and what happens after that. If they make changes I hope it happens on the Sunday after the Causeway.
 
Watching the UCLA game last night I was thinking of Angus McClure. Then I am looking on the sideline and I believe we can do better. How about Klayton Adams who coached here before and is from Sacramento. He has been part of two rebuilding process at San Jose State and Colorado. I am sure he has learned a thing or two. He is part of that Boise background as well and I am sure he can always talk to Chris Peterson. This is a young HC that coaches a PAC 12 offensive line and has been part of rebuilding programs. Also has recruited Sacramento for a long time. Plenty of local kids in that Colorado team.
 
Sears and Staff have a excellent opportunity to scout the last two opponents Sat in Davis. If we come into either of the PSU or dungpile games unprepared pull the plug on Sears the day after the Causeway.
 
This team has been unprepared all season long. Players on this team have been put in positions where they can't make plays which is a reflection of bad coaching. I don't see it being any different the last 2 games. So why wait until a day after the causeway, just move on from this coaching staff right after the game.

No argument with the general lack of preparation so far. Point is that there is ZERO excuse for not being prepared for the next two very beatable teams. If I were the AD poor performances in the next two would be the final justification to pull the plug and eat the final year of Sears' contract. It would be better to wait until after the Causeway because they would have to "appoint" a interim head coach to finish the season. The history of the athletic program shows that the interim head coach has an inside track to become permanent. That's the last thing we want. Unfortunately I doubt that the school has the will to even consider a change until Sears' contract ends.
 
It is believed that there is a small window of time to grab Angus McClure, as there are a lot of FCS schools that are looking at him. One just across the Causeway. He fits the roll well. I understand he is not a Nick Saban, but that is the program marketing angle we need to approach with.

We need a face to the Hornet Program and Angus could be that for a long time. Players come and go in college football and it is bad marketing to focus too closely on them as representation of the program.

Recruiting is marketing... Marketing is recruiting...

Again, Angus and his family have a lot of pull with business partners throughout the region that are unaware or on the sidelines waiting for him to come.

Also, Angus carries a huge support group of former Hornet Coaches, Players and Teammates that want to rally behind him. We need that large group back and Angus is the nucleus that will reconnect them to the program.

Let's bring Angus back to Sacramento State!
 
I would like to get a HC that is a proven winner and has been part of rebuilding a program. Let's step out of the Small box and check out other candidates

I agree that Angus would be good for a lot of what ails Sac State, but we probably can't pay enough and he's probably not willing to take a cut. Same with coach Adams. He's in a good spot right now, especially after the season Colorado is having, to make a move upwards in the FBS or at least get a good raise at Colorado that we couldn't even come close to. OH23 is right, we need someone that has been part of rebuilding programs, not just recycling the same old coaches or coaches that won at one time that are on the downward spiral now or at the end of their career. I understand that rebuilding takes time, such as another poster said about coach Mac at Colorado/San Jose. But this group looks lost on the field. That is poor position coaching and bottom line the head coach. Lots of good D11 coaches (or perhaps Johnny O) would love a chance to move up. Looking outside the box is critical in our next coach.
 
change is indeed needed

North Dakota looks to be in place to win and share the Big Sky championship with EWU this year and move on the the playoffs. North Dakota will join SUU and Cal poly with Big Sky titles in football ...all schools that were just added to the conference a few years ago.

Sac State was added to the Big Sky in 1996 and our best Big Sky mark was 5-3.

The sleeping Giant of the Big Sky continues to remain very asleep

The largest school in the Big Sky by enrollment with 30,500
The 2nd largest football stadium in the Sky with 21,000 seats which is not a state of the art facility but a facility that most recruits can be OK with given all the other top notch field house , academic center, great campus, etc.
The top school in the conference with GPA among football teams
The 20th largest media market in the United States

And somehow

one 7-5 season in the past 20 years and no post season appearances since 1988 is good enough?????

What about someone like Rob Ash? He was fired last year from Montana State after his first losing season, 5-6.
He had been at Montana State since 2007 going 70-38. He is 247-137-5 overall as a college head coach. Currently a offensive analyst to the head coach at Arkansas. That can't pay too much, he might be approachable and he obviously knows the Big Sky.

The program can not, currently, sell themselves to these recruits.

A known coach can.

Recruiting is the number one problem and number one solution for the Hornet Program.
 
I kind of disagree with recruiting, the last two years the Hornets have beat out Montana and Montana State out on some players and the Hornets have signed a lot of local guys. According to the last post they need to get out of Sacramento

Recruiting is NOT our primary problem, coaching is. The past two coaches have done a pretty good job recruiting, turning that talent into wins has been the problem. The next head coach must have not only demonstrated the ability to recruit but to select and organize a effective staff of assistants. I want someone that is a proven head coach, no more experiments! I just threw Rob Ash's name out there as a example, but he certainly has recruiting skills drawing athletes from California, Texas and Washington etc.

What about Mike Canales, the OC at Utah State? He has I-A and professional experience and was the man behind NFL QBs Gio Carmazzi (Carmichael-Jesuit) and Phillip Rivers.

Congratulations to the Hornets on a great effort last night! So happy for our seniors to have won their final game at Hornet Stadium. These 9 players have been so much in their Hornet careers keep fighting and have never given up. We owe them a debt of gratitude for keeping it all together through some trying times. Jordan was amazing last night! I have faith that he and his team mates will win the Causeway !
