Hornets vs. WOU

Good analysis, SD.

Any chance the team could make a big dorm push? That would help. Perhaps not in terms of revenue, but certainly if they can be trained in WHEN to cheer and when to REFRAIN, the crowd could drive a visiting team N-V-T-S nuts like Seattle.

1. Don't get on Monson for botching a punt return when the penalty was for "Fair catch interference." Holy crap, he only returned one for 70 yards against Stanford last week, the first since 2003 and you are criticizing him for muffing a punt in which he was interfered with by the kicking team?

2. On the last touchdown drive, Hilliard was huge and was running like a beast. When he got tired, McGowan came in and gave him a breather and did a great job, so I would say Sperbeck was using McGowan at the right time. If you were at the game, you wouldn't have written what you did because Hilliard was running against a very tired WOU defense who we had finally worn down. Their d-line was dog tired at that point and we just ran the rock down their collective throat.

Special teams, except for an offside's call in the Stanford game was incredible, however, they weren't as good in this game for some reason. I think we are much better than in years past. Diniz kicks his kick-offs too high and need to kick them a bit flatter so he can get them to the end zone.

By the way, Pereira plays DL this year, not LB, so he won't hurt us from a depth perspective.

7800 for a D2 opponent isn't pathetic. It isn't great, but hardly pathetic.

We had 12K+ for D2 Humboldt, I know Humboldt didnt bring 4K fans.

UCFE had 8200 against PSU and Poly had 8000 against then #1 Montana.

I guess the economy is hurting everyone.

Anything less than 10K for Weber would be unacceptable IMO... This is a huge BSC opener and our first FCS opponent, not that the average game-goer would know that...

I really thought the 6:05 start would boost attendance... It seemed to me like our side was fairly full...

It was, close to 8K. The few seconds before BStv crapped out it looked like 25 or so on the visitors side.

Unfortunatley, nobody knows who Weber is in Sacramento, at least aside from everyone on this board and a few others around town. I highly doubt we get more than 8k this week, but I would love to see over 10k.

Remember, this last Saturday was Second Saturday and the Air Show, both contributing to the lower opening attendance.

People literrally started leaving a few minutes into the third quarter  , it was pitiful!

  • 1. You are right, I wasn’t at the game and I couldn’t see the game via BSTV, the radio guy said it hit his hands and he did say there was interference. IMO if it hit his hands he should catch it, obviously I didn’t see so I have no idea how major the interference was. The radio made it sound like there wasn’t any contact and a WOU player was just too close. Yes Monson had a huge return at Stanford, but there is a thing such as trying to hard. I understand his job is to take one to the house but he needs to not make any unnecessary risks in doing so (i.e. understanding when to fair catch and when not to). Again, I didn’t see it so I don’t know if he took these risks or not, there is nothing more deflating that a turnover on special teams.

    2. According to yahoo, McCowan had 6 rushes and 1 reception (which was on a screen pass on 3rd and 2 that went for -1 yard) for a total of 7 touches. With Shaw going down early this is just not enough to lighten Hilliard’s’ load. McCowan showed flashes of talent last year and I don’t see why Sperbeck shouldn’t get the ball into his hands to see if he can produce again this season.

    3. Special teams are key to winning a game. I think they just had an off night.

    4. I didn’t notice Pereira is now listed at DL, my bad. It’s too bad to see him go down but we have a lot of guys on the roster listed at DL so I agree we should have depth there.

    5. 7,800 for a D-1 home football game is pathetic no matter how you want to look at it. Sadly this was the highest home BSC game in week 2. Wow if that doesn’t scream stability I don’t know what does. (CWU “@” EWU drew 6,800 and their game was in Seattle.) *I didn’t count the CP and “farm extension” games as they are not officially in the BSC until 2012.

DAAAANNNNGGGG, EWU only drew 6k at QWEST field!? Wish there were only that many at the Seahawks game yesterday... :(

Pereira was in at FB this week too on the goal line.

Everyone knows Humboldt, we used to be in the same league for 30 plus years. Humboldt also has alot of Alums in the area. We never played WOU before.
