Idaho Game Thread

Alpha

There's a 7 page thread on the Vandal forum about Blackman not starting, but Coach Akey refusing to comment, so maybe just propaganda or could be for real. Either way , shouldn't matter, EWU will win, just way more talent than the lonely Big Sky Vandals which wouldn't make the top 5 in this conference. I'd be more worried about your Griz who will finish 5-6 this year! :tothehand:

If he is starting, and it's all just a ploy to mess with EWU, then Akey must be more afraid of losing to us than I thought. A loss to EWU all but ensures a season of doom and gloom for the Vandals, along with Akey getting shit-canned.

Alpha - I'll take the bait.

Honestly, I don't know a lot about Idaho, just that they were not very good last year, but i'm sure they will be much improved this year. They will be breaking in a new QB, no matter who starts, which means they will probably try to pound the football on the ground. Eastern couldn't prove they could stop the run last year so that will be a big thing in tomorrows game. If we can stop the run, we have a good secondary and should have a great pass rush against Idaho's unproven QB whoever that may be. If we have trouble stopping the run, then our offense may not see the field much and our D could wear down, making it a difficult game.

On the offensive side of the ball, we should be able to throw it all over (as long as we protect the QB better than last year), but once we establish that we can throw it, they will most likely bring in their nickel and dime packages forcing us to run more. We need to prove we can pound the rock as well and keep their secondary honest. This was something we also had trouble with last year, but we have all of our RB's back with more experience. We don't have to dominate the run game, but we have to show we can run the ball to keep their D honest.

I think it should be a good game, close throughout, I don't see a blowout either way. Its not a game we are favored in but it is a game we can definitely win.

Fair enough, at least one person on this site has some knowledge about the game.

If Blackmon plays I would be real worried about Idahos passing game the dude is an extremely accurate passer and he looks like he gets rid of the ball quick. (Quick decisions) If he can distribute the ball like a QB should it will make the RBs jobs easier and it could be a long day for you guys. If you can get some pressure on him you might be the recipients of a few TOs that can equalize their depth advantage. The longer you can keep your offense on the field the better your chances.

I just dont see that happening in the first game of the season, playing up on the road with a new QB. Sure I could be wrong but history is not on your side. That being said I hope you beat Idaho because they should have never been FBS to start with.

This...if Padron can click with all of our returning starters, then we have a good shot to win this game. The best thing about Padron starting his first game for EWU is that he will be throwing to 3 all american receivers and a healthy o-line. Our biggest key will be keeping our offense on the field and we can do that by showing some sort of a running game and Padron clicking right away in the passing game.

Definitely some "ifs" going into this game, but it is the same way with most teams. Blackmon may be good, but he is unproven and if the reports are correct that he may not play, their backup is a former walk on. Our 5 losses last year came against teams that ran the ball and had very mobil QB's. Idaho may try to run the ball, but with his size I don't see Blackmon being very mobile.

Eastern is not favored, nor expected to win, so all the pressure is on Idaho and they were not very good last year. Eags have a great opportunity tonight.

As far as you not attending the Griz games...c'mon man...Alpha not showing some support, WTF? Your new coach is a class act and your AD candidate pool is a good one. All the junk the Griz have dealt with the past year or two will be gone by this time next year as it looks like you are putting the right people in the right positions. See ya 9/29

0-0 looks like both teams r nervous but Padron looks like hes getting better by the down. EWU could have been in the Red Zone with that Kaufman catch. Dope jerseys tho

Well, shit the bed on that play. Total defensive break-down. 67 yard pass play? Really?

Offense needs to pull their heads out.

Wow, good force out by Lee there to hold em to a FG. Could have been a lot worse.

Now the offense really needs to get it together here.
