And I was worried about where you were....wasted my time and thoughts....not even close to being the same olds...both teams will have to put up with the cold but in my example, only one team trained at altitude....do I have to prove this again?? I have talked to many of our players and they all agree that altitude definitely affects them...more so at Cedar City and Flagstaff but it still has an effect at anything over 3500ft..... :wall:

I agree with you on the altitude at SUU and NAU. I was just poking at you. They are both over 7,000 ft. WSU is about 5,000 ft. There is an effect. Studies have shown that the effect is minimal in the first 24 hours at altitude and greatest between 48 and 72 hours later. It would probably be better to fly in the same day, play the game, and then take your chances on recovering for the second game of the trip. I don't think you guys make the WSU/ISU road trip this year, do you? The worst trip for you, or any sea level team, would be the NAU/SUU trip. I would strongly suggest that your team not show up for the first game more than 12 hours prior to game time. Just sayin'. The only other thing you could do is start conducting all of your practices at Donner's Pass.

:ohno: Same Olds...sometimes he has to be corrected with the facts. Not trying to be nit-picky Oldrunner, but you saying SUU is over 7K ft. raised an eyebrow. Cedar City is 5,846 ft in elevation, I do not think SUU is elevated any higher (except maybe in the minds of T-Bird fans). :coffee:

Yes, I know the WELCOME TO UTAH signs say "Life Elevated" but still, facts are facts. :kisswink:

Dress warmly. National Weather Service is calling for wind chills in the minus 20 to minus 30 range beginning tomorrow night. The old spud cellar will be a might chilly Saturday night.
Hopefully they sale hot chocolate at the games up there...the players may need to wear the full length under armour thermal layers under their jerseys for this one...Holt can get DAMN cold.
What do you expect when you host organized sports inside of a giant barn?

The more I think about ISU's strategy for Saturday's game, the more I see their reliance on a zone defense. ISU is slow and thin in the frontcourt. The only chance they have is to keep their bigs out of foul trouble and limit layups from the other team. They don't have post players who can move well enough to keep up with the likes of Hill and Braxton, let alone trying to chase Baker all over the court. They have serviceable guards, but are thin there as well. If they press us it will only be for short periods and will likely be some sort of zone press. Once again, they can not afford to get some of their key guys in foul trouble.

For our part, we need to attack those weaknesses. Like Tal has said, we need to attack the paint and put maximum pressure on their front court. Likewise, if they do press us, we need to attack it and make them pay. If we do that, they won't be pressing for long. They may just sit back in their zone, double down, and take their chances with our outside shooting. Our shooters have been hot lately, making that a big gamble. It did work for them last year. They may be counting on it this year too. To win, we just need to have an average game. For ISU to win, they will need to have their best game of the year. They have no room for error.

I expect that our D against them will be good. We should not have to double anyone and we should be able to switch any guard to guard screens. We may even switch some post to guard screens.

Last year ISU got a couple of run outs, that may well have won the game for them. I expect us to always have three guys back every defensive possession. It may limit our offensive boards, but so be it. :coffee:

Per a Garside tweet, game is to be rescheduled, date TBD...

They should just reschedule it for the same week we play Idaho State at home.
Probably will. My guess is that Tuesday. The game in Ogden is scheduled for a Friday.

I wanted to take a moment tonight and thank all of the Weber fans who braved the weather to drive to Pocatello tonight for what turned out to be a suspended game. I want to clarify a couple of things my broadcast partner and I said tonight during the broadcast. We attributed the leaking onto the playing floor tonight to leaks in the old roof at Holt Arena, but we were incorrect. After the game we got the full explanation from Holt Arena Director George Casper. There are no leaks in the roof. Having said that, Holt Arena is constructed with a square piece of roofing at the very center top. That piece has louvered air venting in it installed so any moisture runs off and down the side of the roof, But there was a period tonight when the wind was blowing snow so hard horizontally that it went directly into the vents on the south side of that square. Once the snow blew into those vents the battle was over and all they can do is wait for it to melt. Workers went to the top and tried to stop the dripping, but it was a losing battle. Casper said this has happened only once before during the history of the Dome.
Anyway, thanks again to you and prayng that you all make it home safely. I would guess the game will be rescheduled the same week we play you in Ogden, the last week of January.

Best of luck to you all until then!

Made it back after a white knuckle experience. Dinner at Buddy's was great, as usual. The game was great for 5 minutes. I think they should just multiply the score by 8 to equal the full 40 minutes. Weber wins 104 - 16. Spare the Bengals the beating.

That isn't what they will do. The game will be played the Wednesday prior to our home game with ISU. It will start where it left off 13 - 2, at the 15:02 mark of the first half.

I plan to be there for that one as well.

ISU tried to man up on us. It was a disaster for them. I don't think they are foolish enough to try that again. They also tried to press us. with limited results. All that really did was give us some film of their press to practice with. I'm hoping that the weather is better and we can get some more WSU fans up to finish this one off. I want to see us finish this one off 104 - 16, like it should be. :coffee:

Just curious...who covers Weber's expenses for the make up game??
Good point. I'll ask about that tomorrow. My guess is that traveling teams pay for their own travel and that this situation would not change that. It's a short trip anyway. Expenses would be low and I wouldn't expect WSU to complain about it.

I'm not sure what might happen if you were to have this with a team with substantial travel expenses.

The league had rules for how long the host team could work on correcting the situation, one hour, and how the game would be completed, to start from where it was called, so they might have rules on travel expenses. Another issue, I have thought about, is if they will bring back the same officials to finish the game.

One of the things I thought may be an option was to play a double header when they visit Ogden. However, that would take away their home game and be less fair. Making us travel twice doesn't seem quite right either. Traveling and then coming home with a one day turn around for the next game doesn't seem fair either.

While I was sitting at the game, waiting for the rain to stop, I was trying to think of all the options. I knew that I didn't want to get a room in Poky to finish the game on Sunday. My selfish opinion was the Ogden double header would be perfect, but I'm sure that ISU would not think so. :wtf:

.@WeberStateMBB and @ISUBengals will resume play on Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. The game will resume with 15:02 left in the first half and WSU up 13-2

After what happened in Pocatello last year, I don't think we will be taking them lightly. This is always a season making game for them. I'm sure they will try to play in Reed Gym again. It's like a HS gym and suits their style better. They will prepare some funky defenses for Jeremy. I don't think that any of it will matter much. We seem to be playing with a great deal of intensity, confidence, and efficiency. Also, it will not be the first time we have seen that matchbox of a Jr. High gym.

As they work to slow Jeremy down, things should open up for everyone else. We will see a lot of zone. Ryan, Dusty, Jerrick, McKay, and Cody should have a lot of open looks. We should also get some good inside looks.

I plan to make the short trip up to visit our friends to the north. I hope that several hundred will make the trip from O town as well. :coffee:

Oldrunners conspiracy theory might be coming true. The January 25th resumed game will take place in Reed Gym. I can see the conspiracy now. Weber jumps out to the fast start. Maintenance man "Bob" receives the code word to open the vent and suddenly we now have the game rescheduled at Reed Gym.

We are in the process of asking the Mexican Government to cover the cost. So, we've got that going for us.
