ISU Part Two

Has anything changed in two weeks?

I fully expect them to work on new ideas for slowing our inside game down. Their zone was ineffective against us in the first game. They might look at the Sac film and decide to try a zone press against us. They may also try a new approach to doubling our post players. I expect that things could open up for our guards. If we get comfortable in taking outside shots, it could be a high scoring game. I expect that ISU will try everything to slow the game down. I don't think it will work out for them, but you never know. :twocents:

I plan to make the trip north. Hope I can get some decent seats. The lovely people up north usually try to stick us in the nose bleed sections. :yikes:

I really like how Telfair has upped his game lately. I still think we win, but it is always tough in the old potato barn.

use my tips as ive been to many games in potatoville for anyone that goes.

1.0 if your buying tkts at the game do not have any purple on. you can get good seats. if needed, make fun of weber state if they are suspicious or act like you don't know who "we" are playing.
1.1 wear purple to the tkt booth, ull pay more and get nose bleed.

ive honestly tested out version 1.1 and it is a fully functioning supported version by idaho state. i like idaho state and its fans but they can be a little weird at the tkt booth. i dont blame them as we usually have a decent sized section and during the rahe era we don't lose many up there. at least they have a competent tkt booth though unlike ours. our tkt booth wouldnt understand a road fan from bolomboy or rahe.

The game this weekend will be in Reed Gym, not the Dome. It will be warmer and a better basketball atmosphere.

reed just increases wsu's chance of losing vs holt. reed is smaller than college regulation. i think its high school length. its small and can be very loud if packed in. i'd rather it be in holt  but its more fun to attend at reed.

I think it is really pathetic that ISU even uses that gym. Does ISU want to be seen as a DI institution or as a high school? The LOLT isn't perfect, but it is way better than the Stott, Butt-Hancock, and Nest. It is a real stadium, yet, ISU would rather portray themselves as being on par with local high schools. Just dumb... I was thinking of going till I saw the Reed being the venue. No thank you. What a terrible facility to watch basketball. Last time I was there, I was accosted by ISU's past AD (Jeff wouldn't dare, he'd get his rear side kicked  ).

Everybody has their opinions but I much prefer the games at Reed. With the tiny crowds we are drawing these days, the thousand or so people who do bother to show up just disappear in the Dome. And with Holt's design, when it gets really cold outside, the cold air sinks down into the arena and you can see your breath sometimes. It was a great facility when it was built in the 1970s -- we used to host NCAA tournament games then. But it is aging badly and there is no money to give it more than surface upgrades. ISU desperately needs a true, basketball only arena, but I don't think I'll see it in my lifetime.

You need to sell it as a community event center. It needs to be able to host concerts, conventions, graduations, other large community gatherings, and, of course, basketball games. You need to get the whole community involved in it. That may be the only way to get it done. HOLT is already a little of that right now. It's just not nice enough for some community events.

Jeff Tingey and crew are working hard to identify lead donors. If you don't have somebody willing to put up $10 million or so, you're never going to get anywhere. ISU actually had a donor willing to put up $25 million during the 2000 capital fund drive, but it got diverted to the performing arts center. The arts center is fantastic, but they are still paying it off, and they haven't been able to get that kind of commitment for a basketball arena.

If anyone is interested in making the trip up to Poky this weekend, you best get your tickets in advance. I've heard, from inside sources, that the Reed is almost full. I gave my inside sources a lot of hell for playing in a high school type gym. I asked the individual if it was the university's intention of being seen as being on the same level as UNCO, PSU, and SAC? Only comment...that hurts. LOL.

Good thing Weber graduated to DI officially in 1977 and has never looked back. :thumb:

And even back then the Swenson Gym would still be a better facility than half of the conference gyms today. :crybaby: we need a better conference.

Me and the old man were considering the trip until we heard the game was going to be in Reed, last time we went up there and watched Weber play in Reed it was one of the most uncomfortable games I have ever watched.

I'm heading up after watching the women's game. It's going to be a long day of running, driving and basketball. I've never been to this gym. It should be interesting. I've never thought Holt was a good place for a basketball game. It's too tough on shooters. It's good for Football, track, rodeo, and indoor soccer. That's about it. Maybe, monster truck shows.

It is high schoolish as in high school girl's Summer camp  but the rims are still 10' off the floor. I hope the players aren't as concerned about the image of the venue as this board is, and they just play the game and grow from the experience.

At least it will be above freezing in there. Last time I watched a game in Holt I could actually see my breath, no kidding. Had to wear my coat and hat the entire game.

I like Monster Truck shows

Yeah, should be warm, maybe a little humid with a pool in the same building. I hope the player's hair doesn't go all frizzy. :silly:

Long as it doesn't turn orange, I'm OK.
