ISU Part Two

Both Weber and Idaho State are going to have another issue to worry about shortly: full cost of attendance. North Dakota is going to start providing it next year, and Idaho's AD says they will begin to offer it soon. In order to stay competitive in football and basketball, the rest of the conference is going to have to follow suit.

Tall, I'm pretty sure that you're right about what you said about maintenance fees, etc. When considering the cost of a new gym, I'm sure they'd try to include at least a million or so for an endowment fund to provide for maintenance of the facility. If we had about a million dollars for an endowment, then that would provide about $60,000 or so per year for maintenance. I'm glad that we're trying to come up with the financing for a new gym so that we can take care of our men's and women's basketball teams and our volleyball team, and to provide a nice venue for concerts and other events, instead of just coming up with the money for a new practice facility -- which would cost around $1.5 million. (Loaded sentence there). Either one would certainly help us in recruiting for the aforementioned posts.

And good luck the rest of the season, and I'm sure that Bolomboy will have a very nice professional career in the future!

How can UND afford that for all of their athletes? I know they will for sure provide them for hockey, and it would make sense for that sport if they did. It is their baby, but I really don't see it in their budget to do much else. Maybe some for football and basketball.

Do you know, you are pretty up on these type of things, if an institution has to make it equal between men's and women's sports, like Title IX? Or can institution pick and chose? As for Weber, I've heard we already provide COAs for Men's Basketball. COAs are going to bankrupt schools. Too many are going to try to keep up with the jones. This is the beginning of the end of amateur sports.

I'm not sure how we are going to pay for it, but I know that NDSU(after their fans bragged about having so much money) is trying to raise student athletics fees by 33%.

I'm no expert, Tal, but I believe you can pick and choose which sports to offer them in, BUT you have to do so within the spirit of Title IX. In other words, you can give COA to football, but you have to then offer equal opportunities to women athletes, which means you'd probably have to give COA to an equal number of female athletes.

Good luck getting the students to agree to that. Once they find out that they have to pay more for athletes to attend their school, this idea will be dead on arrival. :coffee:
