Jake Rodgers Dad Medical Emergency.

Message to Jake Rodger's dad:
According to reports, Jake, who was recently named first team All American, is called an NFL sleeper for the NFL draft, and has been invited to and has accepted the invitation to play in the NFL Collegiate Bowl on January 18.(Brock Coyle, Montana linebacker played in this game last year on ESPN and is now with the Seahawks).
This has to give you lots of incentive to get well fast so you can enjoy your son's accomplishments. I met Jake at an EWU coaches meeting, and my impression of him was that he was raised by very good parents.
Eastern was very fortunate to have this Eagle.

tski60,
Haven't heard no news on Jakes dad recovery. Here is hoping he is doing well, and ready to leave the hospital. Sorry to bother you and the family, your family means a lot to all us "Eagle Nation"., and beyond. I saw a score where the NDSU had a 28-3 lead on SH. Have my DVR set for today for Ill. State, and UNH. Congratulations to Jake for an Outstanding year in FB, and his next game coming in a few weeks. Take care, and "God keep the family healthy for a very long time. Vic Wallace

As of today, Jake's dad, is still on a ventilator in the ICU at Sacred Heart Hospital. He has made a small improvement and has been able to "communicate" a couple times now with the kids (Jake & his sister Kara) by blinking his eyes and squeezing their hand but for the most part he is heavily sedated in order to tolerate the vent tube. We continue to pray that he will get strong enough to breathe well enough on his own so they can take him off the ventilator by Christmas. That would be a fantastic Christmas gift!

Thanks for continuing to ask for updates and keep John and the family in your thoughts.

On a happier note, Jake recently signed with an sports agency to represent him in his quest for chance in the NFL. He will have some intense training & conditioning coming up very soon along with the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl Jan. 17th. This will take him away from home at a tough time to be away... but he knows that his Dad wouldn't want it any other way. Prayers for him for strength are welcome - strong mind strong body.

Merry Christmas to all!

tski60,
Thanks for the update on Jakes dad. I remembered when my Deceased Wife was in there at Sacred Heart, she was also on a Ventilator, that was the most noisy part of her recovery, after she had surgery on her heart in 1992. She lived 7 more years after damaging 30% of her Heart. One morning after I woke up, the ventilator was so quiet, when I saw the custodian cleaning her room, she said she was coming off the ventilator that day, one hour later she was off, but still weak. Glad we had her in our lives for and additional 7 years, for a total 44+ years. Thank god and Prayers for that. Congratulations to Jake on his new challenges, we wish him all the luck in the world. He is a very likable individual. Spoke to him each day at practices, and he seemed as if he loved every minute of it. Merry Christmas to all, and Happy New Year. God Bless All. Vic Wallace

I am sad to say that John Rodgers passed away last night. The kids were by his side, along with his brother and nephews. He loved watching Jake play football and his last great time on this earth was at Roos Field cheering on his son and the team. Thank you all for your care and well wishes. Please keep Jake in your prayers as he struggles through this difficult time.

Not the news any of us wanted to hear. My condolences to the family.

So very saddened by this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they experience the great sadness and grief this loss has caused. We hope they are comforted by the memories of better times and shared love as well as buoyed by the support of Eagle Nation.

Deepest condolences and our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the Rodgers family from this Redbird fan. Our prayers were with Jake and his family during the incident and we were so hoping Mr. Rodgers would pull through. We all get caught up in the spirit of competition, but at the end of the day....its just a game. Hoping young Mr.Rodgers excels at making the NFL and making his Dad proud

Would love nothing more than to see Illinois State win one for EWU Nation. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Birds of a feather, we fly high! RIP Mr.Rodgers, and soar high above Eagle Nation.

Not what I was hoping to see after several days of not visiting the site. All of Eagle nation are behind Jake and his family during this difficult time. :(
