The Utah Jazz have officially signed Joel.

He'll still have to make the team, but the fact they signed him to a contract is an excellent sign.

Nice, go Joel! He could still end up being a bargain pickup for the Jazz if he develops like we all know he's capable of. His Summer League showing was decent, not great, but good. I certainly think there's potential for an NBA career for him. Funny how often things work out like this: "The Utah Jazz open preseason play against the Portland Trailblazers (and Damian Liilard) on Monday, Oct. 3, in Portland."

Jazz give Joel guarantee of a million dollars over two years.

Good for Joel, glad to see all his hard work paid off. And I think that he will do just fine with a few years under his belt.

Joel with a nice line in 25 minutes of play against Phoenix. Here's a quote from the Trib:

"Bolomboy, the rookie out of Weber State, played regular rotation minutes for the first time, getting playing time ahead of Jeff Withey as a reward for his play against the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night.

The big man responded with another solid performance, rebounding the ball well, and playing with energy. He finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

"Joel's going to have moments where things are confusing to him," Snyder said. "But the great thing about him is that he continues to play hard through everything.""

"We continue to play hard through everything..." is a good mantra to describe why I enjoy being a Wildcat basketball fan. I wouldn't expect anything less from any player that has graduated from WSU.

KSL TV Sports news reports that Bolomboy has been assigned to the 'D' League Utah Stars (?).

It's the 'Salt Lake City Stars', the development league affiliate of the Utah Jazz. He will get more playing time & be available to the Jazz as 'Pirate' states, being just a few miles away at SLCC. :coffee:

And they shuttle him back to the Jazz for tonight's game since they have several guys out with injuries. With the Stars (D League team) in SLC this year (play at SLCC Redwood Road campus), I think Joel will see this back-and-forth a lot as the season progresses. D League play gives him valuable minutes to keep developing.

I think you are right on target with this analysis. When he isn't needed, let him play and develop. But with Diaw down, give Joel a chance to play some and get experience. He will be send to the Stars and recalled frequently.

I think that this has been the plan with Joel all along. The contract that he signed also says that they have long term plans for him in the Jazz organization. Personally, I believe this to be the best course for Joel. Joel developed quickly over his four years at WSU and I believe that development will continue with the Jazz. The Jazz seem to believe that as well.

Jazz recall Joel. Will join team in San Francisco.

Joel's performance the other night is outstanding and I'm really happy for him and love seeing his growth when is is able to play. Coach Q does not seem willing to give Joel any kind of quality time. I know there is a log jam there and the system probably doesn't really favor Joel's strengths but there have been numerous times this season where Joel could have gotten some minutes, even minutes in quality situations but gathered dust at the end of the bench.

I think logging good minutes in the D-league would be good for his development. He is a man among boys in the D-League. It is clear that his role on the Jazz roster right now is a foul trouble and injury insurance policy. In a year or two we will get to see what he will do with more time. I think the Starzz would sell a few more tickets if Joel was a regular there this season. The D-league has to be better for his development than one or two minutes of PT and then riding the exercise bike after the game.

Hell of a game from Joel. He is only going to get better and better. He has so much upside and potential. As for this season, the Jazz are one of the top teams in the NBA. His mins will be limited. He will only get the occasional garbage min, but being with the team and getting some D-league games will be huge for his development. No matter, so far, whenever he gets mins, he makes the most of them. He ends every game with some sort of stat.

Brandon Garside wrote a nice follow-up on Joel and his games with the Utah Stars.

As much as I like Jeremy both as a person and a player, he's not cut out for the NBA IMO. I could see him having success in Europe like Bamforth.

Jeremy will get a chance to make a team in the NBA. I can't predict if he will stick or not, but he will get his chance. Any way you cut it, he will be playing for a pay check next year. He is one of the best shooters in the country and is making far less ball handling errors than in past years. He has matured and his game has also. Guys have stuck on NBA teams with far less talent than Jeremy.
