Jazz sign joel

As much as I like Jeremy both as a person and a player, he's not cut out for the NBA IMO. I could see him having success in Europe like Bamforth.

Agree. I'd love to see Jeremy make the NBA and love any attention that he's already getting but I see him as a longer shot to make it and stick. Joel had an NBA ready body, had steadily increased his skill set, and worked hard only to have his daft stock slip slightly and possibly miss out all together if he isn't in the Jazz's backyard. Lillard was a special talent but had a work ethic on a scale rarely seen. I don't see Senglin quite to the same level in either regard and in an ultra competitive position and skill set. Here's to hoping for the best for him but won't be surprised in the least if he's overseas next year.

If he gets drafted, it will be the late 2nd round. Getting drafted would give him the best chance to play in the league. I'm positive that he will spend the summer with a team and might even play through the preseason in the league, but that might be all he gets. He would do well in the D-league for a couple of seasons, and might be able to pull off a contract from there. My question is, why make peanuts when you can make good money in Europe? I get it...give it a shot and I think he should, but when does he finally have to cut and go to greener pastures? Two seasons? Three? Look a Berry...he has the height, ball-handling skills, and is quick. No, his shot isn't as clean but he is far more efficient.

Two things that will hurt his chances to getting in the NBA:
1. Efficiency
2. TO/A

Two things that will help his chances:
1. Shooting
2. Speed.

Will get a look but not make NBA ...defense , passing , quickness, handle and hops not quite there for an undersized 2...Does have the shooting skill from 3...not from the line where he falls short in accuracy and attempts

Joel is a All-Star! Nice to see the Jazz HC lift up his outer shirt to expose a Salt Lake City Stars T-shirt & smile, saying that he received it from Joel. :thumb:

Nice write up on Joel on KSL:

http://www.ksl.com/?sid=43244472&nid=304&title=wheres-bolomboy-jazz-rookie-d-league-all-star-impressive-in-1st-season

So Lillard has proven to be much better than Jimmer as a pro. Will Joel prove to be a better player in the long run than the Utes lottery pick Poetl? I think that answer will also be yes, but time will tell.

I'm hoping with Lyles gone, not jacking up 20 3pt shots a game that Joel can get involved more offensively for the Jazz. We already know what he can do on the glass, I hope Snyder will play to his strengths and not doom him to the same fate as Lyles by trying to force a 3 shooting, stretch 4. At any rate, I'm excited to go watch Joel showcase his skills in the Utah Summer League (too bad its at the u). I can't make it tonight but got my tix for Wed & Thu.

I hear a roster spot just opened up in Utah...
This is making the Jazz's draft day trading look very good. I don't think it changes Joel's standing with the Jazz organization, but it opens up some other doors, including having the cash to play in the free agent market and future trades. I don't think that the trading has ended.

I don't think you can blame Hayward for jumping to the Celtics. He had several valid reasons for making the change. I don't think that it will hurt the Jazz as much as many are thinking. The Jazz have several good, up and coming, players and have the resources to bring in some more. :coffee:

It very much hurts the Jazz at least in the short term. The SF FAs has all but dried up. This makes the Rubio get-- elite passer in the league-- not as attractive when an already sub-par shooting team gets significantly worse. The fact that Hayward let this drag out and does nothing to try and throw the team who drafted and developed him a bone makes him a real dbag in my book. This very well could impact Joel too in a round about way depending on how trying to replaced Hayward's talents pans out. It may be that they end up settling for less at the SF and try and make up the difference in other positions through trade.

I agree with your 'short term' impact statement. I also agree that Gordon and his agent didn't handle things well. That may be on his agents head, more than Gordon's. How long the Jazz are impacted depends on how the rest of the team steps up and who else they are able to bring in at that position.

Joel's value is at the 4/5 spots. I don't see his value being related to Hayward at all. If anything, his value goes up as a more veteran type player. The more direct threat to Joel's future with the Jazz is the big kid from NC. He is raw but looks to have some up side.

I still say Joel could get caught up in the Hayward mess depending how it plays out. Especially after seeing him in person, I agree that Bradley very well could become a threat to Joel's future with the Jazz as well. There is most certainly some talent there. I was also impressed with Griffin (#13, I think), he looks like he has the potential to provide a team quality PF/C backup minutes.

Joel played decent for 2 1/2 quarters but seemed somewhat hesitant or passive. Jensen had some words for Joel as he sat him for good later in the game. If I had to guess, it was regarding back-to-back rebounding opportunities that didn't look too good. I heard great things about him and Exum from practice and Joel excelled in the D-League last year, but where Exum has been standing out, Joel seems more like he's blending in. Joel looks like he has a good chance of sticking around when he takes what's given but I think he needs to figure out how to go take what's not given and shine more. I sure hope he puts on a show tonight and I hope the Jazz run the Celtics out of the building.

Hmmm...Jazz having serious talks with Boston about a sign & trade for Crowder. 1280 The Zone talking about any possibility of the Jazz having to include an asset to get the deal done and keep mentioning Bolomboy as possibly the most affordable player to use if it came to that.

Here's an interesting article on Joel in the Tribune.

http://www.sltrib.com/sports/5490492-155/utah-jazz-with-frontcourt-unsettled-joel

Reading the comments on the trib article, it seems others are seeing and feeling what I have. I had heard Joel and Exum looked much improved in practice and while it shows with Exum, I'm a little worried about Joel. The one game I saw him in person at the u he looked tired, hesitant, and lost at times. The athleticism is certainly still there but I'm not seeing the growth I would expect from all the time and success in the D-League last season. Come on Joel, get it going! I want to see you succeed at this level.

The comments on the Trib left me laughing (see below quote of Jazz staff expectations). It seems that most have very limited reading comprehension skills. The coaching staff highlighted what they want Joel doing. They aren't worried about his stats, but screens, defense, rebounding, moving without the ball and the like. Yes, his Summer League games have looked limited offensively, but the guard play has been atrocious other than Exum. The guards have been hogging the ball a lot. Other issue with Joel is that it seems as if the Jazz are seeing if he could play the 3 a bit. I think Joel is trying to figure out how to play that position. He is stellar at the 4, but the 3...yikes. Too much movement for Joel and he is getting lost.

"During this week, we want Joel to focus on the little things," Utah's summer league coach Zach Guthrie said. "We're not worried about his field goal percentage. We want him to focus on setting screens and getting rebounds. We want him to play good defense and get his teammates open. Those are the things that translate to NBA minutes for us. Those are the things that we're holding him accountable on, not the box score stats."

Hmmm, not sure what you're reading in the comments but I'm not hearing much questioning of the stat sheet or offensive numbers. Simply put, he does not look great. He doesn't look improved but pretty much the same as last Summer, sans as much fight for boards. He had commented that he wanted to grab every board in Summer League but is being out rebounded by players on both teams. He has not been a game high rebounder and has only been team high rebounder once. Defensively, he is not altering much that I can see. Bradley has much less experience but has great foot work, looks more comfortable on both ends, does not look gassed, and is putting up better numbers with AST, STL, BLK, and PTS. "not the stats sheet," I get it but he just doesn't look improved and that worries me.

If he's being asked to learn how to play the 3, that worries me even more. The Jazz just shipped a high draft picked to Denver that they tried to make a stretch 4. They should incorporate the player's strengths into the system they want to run, not attempt to mold the player into what benefits their system. Time will tell if Lyles is an NBA player but he certainly wasn't able to change the type of player he is. I'd love to see Joel stick but highly doubt it will be as a SF.
