Jazz sign joel

I saw this coming as soon as the Wayward dominoes started falling. I don't think Snyder ever thought much of Joel going back to when their full focus was on trying to make Lyles a stretch 4. I think the Jazz staff is missing the mark on this one, especially when compared to the pieces they've recently added. I'd never say Joel was one of the best on the roster but he's better now and even more so potentially than many who remain. In some ways I hope it bites the Jazz in the ass, assuming Joel is picked up.

I'm surprised by it. I thought the Jazz were smarter than that. Maybe they have some other moves coming. It sure doesn't look good for the Jazz, at this point. I also feel that Joel is better than a few of the guys they seem to be keeping. Who knows how it will all end up. I don't see the Jazz being anywhere close to as good as they were last year. Joel will be making money playing basketball somewhere this year. He is too good not to.

They'll still pay Joel 1.3 million this season, which makes this move look even more stupid. Hope it comes back to hurt the Jazz. And I don't care what they say, O'Neal having Baylor ties defiantly factored in. Decision was Lindsey's, not Snyder's.

Having lost all Jazz credibility with my earlier post -- you know, Bolomboy would have a bigger role with the Jazz -- I actually thought Joel was the second-coming of Trevor Booker who we lost a couple of years ago. You know, the guy who played his butt off any time he came into the game and who the fans loved because the game is full of cruise-for-three-quarters-and-only-play-hard-in-the-fourth-quarter players.

I don't watch much NBA, so I probably shouldn't comment. However (you knew I wasn't going to keep quiet) I found the timing interesting as they really didn't need to cut him until later tonight (in fact they still have to trim two more players). I have a feeling that some other team(s) is/are already inquiring and this gives Joel a chance to sign with someone else today as other teams consider who they have to cut and can make space for him -- and more important from the frugal Jazz (read cheap) POV, it's their chance to shed the $1.3 million they owe him.

I too hope this comes back to bite them. I think Bolomboy can become an elite rebounder in the NBA.

Agreed, I think the Baylor obsession is going to hurt the Jazz far more than the GoRdon fallout.

Too bad for the Jazz though. This one will come back to bite them on the ass. Joel will be playing somewhere soon. A buddy and I both feel that a great spot for him would be in Minnesota, that or in Charlotte or New Orleans.

The 1.3 million is guaranteed. Unless you mean the team that picks him up assumes the 1.3 million. Don't know the rules there, but one way or another, Joel's guaranteed 1.3 million.

Cutting Bolomboy doesn’t mean that the Jazz will stop paying him: His $1.3 million in salary for the season is guaranteed. Bolomboy is expected to clear waivers as soon as Tuesday and potentially sign with another NBA team or G-League team. A new NBA rule preventing G-League franchises from signing players with guaranteed salaries from their NBA affiliates will ensure that Bolomboy will not rejoin the Stars this year.

That's my assumption. Don't know NBA rules but MLB rules -- you pick up the player he comes with the contract, or a portion of the contract depending on how many games remain in the season.

This is too funny. No matter, he will make $1.3M from the Jazz, but can get a paycheck from another team. If he makes the rotation he could hurt the Jazz while getting paid by them. Weird move on their part. Get rid of the guys you don't have to pay. Really makes you wonder who is making these types of moves. I for sure wouldn't want to lose a $1.3M investment. Why pay for more guys?? It is like they are throwing away $1.3M. Even if he is the 15 player, so be it. He is still showing up to work earning his paycheck.

I'm pretty sure if he is picked up-- and it has to be within 48 hours of being waived-- the $1.3M is off the books for the Jazz. I assume the new team would pay the same amount since it was guaranteed $$$. The thing is he's on the clock, I hope someone sees the talent the Jazz obviously didn't.

It isn't always a 100% guaranteed. It could be less than the $1.3M. At any rate, Joel will be just fine.

Haven't heard of anyone picking Joel up off of waivers so I assume he is a free agent at this point like Senglin is.

This is an interesting situation for Dev...
Davion Berry, Weber State, Toronto Raptors

Berry was signed by the Toronto Raptors on Oct. 11 and was waived three days later. But that was always the plan, according to Dallas Reynolds of Raptors HQ who explained the whole situation.

"Berry was always earmarked for the 905," wrote Reynolds. "And with the Exhibit 10 contract he signed with the Raptors, the plan was to entice him to the G-League with some bonuses therein."

Reynolds then broke down how the contract works, writing, "Berry receives $50,000 if he makes it past waivers, jumps to the Raptors 905, and remains in the G-League for 60 days."

In hindsight, I kinda wonder if the Jazz picking Joel was a move that Snyder wasn't a big fan of, but Weber alum/Jazz Pres. Steve Starks was pushing for
