LMU game thread

I agree about the outside defense. However, that outside D is influenced greatly by your teams ability to play sollid man D in the post. If you have weak interior D it puts so much presure on your guards, to dig down in an effort to force a pass, that they often leave a wide open shot on the outside. I think it relates directly to having that athletic and large 3 and 4 player, who does not require as much guard help in the post. That is why I keep saying that we need more depth and size at the 3. I am really hoping that Hill and Bolomboy can fill that need for us. I think that they can, but that is a lot to put on true freshmen. I'm really pulling for them to come in here, in shape, and with the attitude to take Ogden by storm. With one good rebounder, in the post, we win that LMU game and a few others during our season. :coffee:

Three things killed Weber yesterday.

1. Second chance points for the Lions. They killed us on the boards.
2. Missed lay ups. Weber missed 6.
3. Charging calls. Lillard got called for two charges that should have been blocking fouls. What really stinks about both calls is that he made the bucket and should have been at the FT line shooting one. On both plays Loyola scored on the other end. The first was a 3pt and the second was an and one. Both times there was a 5 point swing. On the second one, in the late second half, Lillard went up and moved away from the defending player. He didn't initiate the contact, and still got called for the Charge. First, the defender was on the baseline falling down before Lillard had made contact. Second Lillard moved away from the defender (only way for a true charge is if the player is absolutely in front of the driving player). The player fell down the opposite way Lillard was going. Huh? The ref blew that one.

Agreed, but don't forget perimeter defense. That has been our nemesis the past three years. Anthony Johnson two years ago, Beitzel last year. We have enjoyed having two great three point shooters in Bamforth and Lillard but when a great outside/guard game shows up for the other team, it kills us! Remember, offense sells tickets, defense wins championships!

I agree. Also Bullinger was a rebounding BEAST before the injury, & he just couldn't get up & get the ball, among other things after that damn elbow injury. Kyle was never the same 1st team All-Conference player post injury. One tough SOB though. Losing Mook for the majority of the season also severely limited our rebounding. Tresnak struggles with that part of his game. Hopefully Tresnak improves, & Hajek, Otis, & Bolomboy will help with some of our interior woes that we had this season.

If we are talking about rebounding we are going to miss Mahoney greatly because he was the ONLY one who crashes the boards on offense. When he is out, forget about an offensive rebound.. that is also something that needs to be worked on. we get killed on 2nd chance points, so why not also try to get our our 2nd chances.

Coach, in his post game interview, said that rebounding was the "Achilles Heel" of our team this season. Losing three good rebounders to injury severly hurt the Cats.

Rebounding is a mental thing and takes toughness. Right now, I'm really hoping that the coaching staff is looking for guys who can rebound. Session may have only been 6-2, but was an excellent rebounder. If the coaches are going to add guards this spring, I hope they can rebound and most importantly can crash the offensive boards.
