Looks like Tad's weighing his options

I was hoping he would get us to the Dance before he split, but maybe not. Hawaii is looking for a coach; here is an excerpt from the article:

"I've talked to a lot of people who've called me to ask me about the job," said Wallace, who coached UH for 20 years. "(Former UH assistant and current Pittsburgh coach) Jamie Dixon and I have talked, because we're both concerned about the job and the future of it and where it's going. Some ex-players have given calls. And then coaches who want the job. I'd say I'm right there. I had business 4 or 5 hours with (UH athletic director) Jim Donovan about it."

Wallace said Southern Miss associate head coach Steve Barnes has applied. The former San Jose State head coach also had assistant stints at current Western Athletic Conference schools Idaho and Utah State.

He said Northern Colorado coach Tad Boyle is also interested. Boyle's Bears (24-7) play Portland in the CIT first round.

Contrary to what people might think, Hawaii is a tough place to win because of the distance and what not between them and the rest of the WAC. Having said that, Tad could bolt, but I would think he would wait for a job such as Oregon to open up. Still, if he leaves, this job is much more attractive than it was four years ago, and we can dream bigger.

Much like Joe Glenn, I would only wish Downing the best at UH or wherever he goes. I just really hope we keep him for one more year.

I agree with Hoel. Tad's not God and we can still succeed with a different coach. This is just part of the business I suppose. Hawaii would probably double his salary.

If he does leave, I hope one of the assistants stays and applies for the opening. Tad's done some nice recruiting but so has the other coaches on the staff.

Tad would need double the sallary to afford groceries in Hawaii. Lived their for 6 years and it is freekin' expensive. Of course, I still want to move back because it is one of the most beautiful places on Earth but it is expensive.

Don't buy what the Tribune and Hawaii papers are saying. Boyle would be a fool to not at least sit down and listen to what Hawaii has to say before he says no, and that same notion would apply to most coaches in college athletics (Mike Dunlap is another example......He interviewed at Nebraska---one of the worst BCS basketball jobs in the country--- before they hired Doc Sadler). That said, nothing will happen here UNTIL AFTER OUR SEASON is over. This team has a great chance to win the CIT, and speculation on Boyle remaining here next year will not interfere with that.

One good thing is that I think for Coach Boyle to leave, it would have to be a true stup up. Oahu is certainly a true step up from Greeley, but I don't think their basketball program is that big of a leap.

I see him going to an Iowa State in 3 or 4 years but maybe that's too big of a leap.

My buddy in Ames said McDermott had to win either his first game in KC or beat K State to end the year to save his job. He's gone after next year. If Oregon goes for a mid major coach, Boyle could jump to take that type of job.

“I was impressed with the game Northern Colorado runs, but I am not pushing any one person (for the job),” Wallace said.

Besides, Wallace believes Boyle isn't interested in leaving UNC.

“When I've talked to him, he's very happy he's home, he feels secure and he likes the athletic director there,” Wallace said.

That supports what Boyle told The Tribune earlier this month when he said he wasn't interested in going anywhere soon.

From the Tribune article

Hawaii's got a new guy. Look for teams such as Boise State, Northern Iowa (if they lose Ben Jacobsen....which I think is now likely), etc to at least extend some feelers to Tad after the tournaments wind down.

any update yet if he says or goes? we just found out our coach signed today til 2017. we are fortunate. i really hope boyle stays...this could become a good rivalry as well wsu is the closest school to greeley geographically.

If this is an ongoing thing, rumors, giving permission to talk to other schools, etc. it's going to get really annoying... If he wants to move on then move on, if not, squash the rumors...

I have heard some people in Boise indicate some interest. However, nothing indicates he has been interviewed for the Boise job. That said, the AD up there is keeping things on the down low, and I would think their interest in Boyle would go up after Randy Rahe signed a long term deal to stay at WSU. Is this annoying? Yes. Is it a part of college athletics? Yes. Like I said earlier: Tad has done a WONDERFUL job here. However, losing him (if it happens) wont kill this program. There are plenty of up and coming assistants (including Hill and Ellis; Terry Anderson is too young IMO) that could step in and easily continue the job Tad has done. If he stays, great. However, this is the ugly part of having an up and coming small conference team. Boyle's name will come at places like Hawaii, and Boise State, and others.

Wish we could pay Tad like this:

Northern Iowa and Jacobson have agreed to a new 10-year deal that includes a substantial pay raise, athletic director Troy Dannen announced Wednesday.

The agreement will increase Jacobson's annual salary to $450,000 starting next season, with annual raises of $25,000 throughout the length of a deal that runs through 2020.

Jacobson's old contract paid him $289,300 per year and ran through 2016. Northern Iowa said that no public funds will be used to fund the increase in the new agreement.

I'm starting to get the feeling hes going to get a serious look from Oregon---Mark Few (their dream guy) isn't leaving Gonzaga now that he lost Leon Rice to Boise. Mark Turgeon said no, Tubby Smith wasn't interested, Jamie Dixon would be a fool to leave Pitt for any job that is outside California (hes from there), Brad Stevens is not leaving Butler (Indy native, would probably leave for Indiana Univ if they asked but he can do with Butler what Mark Few has done at Gonzaga), and the pattern goes on with some of the other ridiculous names on that list. IMO the only name ahead of that list they may have a shot at is Steve Alford, and they won't go after Randy Bennett because they got Ernie Kent from St. Mary's. Tad does have some ties up there, hes a turnaround type coach, he'd be getting a massive increase in pay, and its the type of hire Oregon made with Chip Kelly (minus the off the field crap). Plus, I'd bet if Boyle's the guy at Oregon, Mike Dunlap (whose stock has gone WAY down this year) will stay on.

One pretty decent season and he bolts, typical... At this rate we'll be back to winning 4 games a year in no time.

Not completely out of the woods yet.....keep an eye on Clemson and Oregon and the ripple effects from those hires.
