Proud Weber State alum here who lives 10 miles from Orono, me. I'm super excited for this matchup and think it will be a great game.

Got to be honest, tho. If you have never traveled from Maine to Ogden, you have no idea how crappy that is. Unless Maine has a chartered flight, they will have to fly from Bangor or Portland with very unreliable connections or fly out of Boston after a 4 hour drive. It's long uncomfortable travel. Thankfully for the Maine players, unlike me, they won't be traveling with kids😀. It is a legit full day of travel.

Anyway, I hope umaine has safe travels. I root for them in every other game but this one and always go to a couple of athletic events each year. I'm sad it's a Friday game, or I would be heading to Ogden next weekend.

Years back the Weber State hockey team had a goalie from Maine - he was always ready. Great player.

As for Mainefutball he ain’t ready.

Short flight. Can’t be more than an hour. There may only be one or two flights a day. With 6:00 kickoff and rush hour to Ogden you would want to be in SLC by 3:00.

I would think Maine will charter a flight to spare their players that long ride to Ogden. It is the altitude that concerns me. Unless they spend a few days out in Utah in the 4000 foot altitude they won't be acclimated to it and that could be an issue for some players. Weber State is rated Number 3 in FCS. Maine was rated Number 12 before the game against JSU. But they lost to Utah and Northern Arizona which is 4-6 in the Big Sky Conference. They played Eastern Washington tough but have a tendency to give up the long ball. Also they have not really faced such a large offensive line that Maine has. Additionally I think the Weber State QB can be blitzed on and Maine blitzes a lot of their defensive schemes,

I hesitate to even respond since FCS football simply doesn't need to be argued like fBS since it's settled as it should be on the field in a real playoff, but I can't resist replying to your comments.

First off, I don't buy into the impacts of altitude in football nearly to the degree as in some other sports. Maybe as the game goes on in the 2nd half but there's too much time in the game where players are at rest in-between exertion. My personal opinion is the effects are further minimized in cold vs heat. I also don't believe a short week or long travel would create game changing impacts, especially at this point in the season.

I'll concede Weber has given up their share of long throws and even some longer runs; however, more often than not they recover as the field shortens. Weber likes to blitz themselves and it gets more difficult to throw deep when your QB is frequently under duress, just ask SEMO and other Weber opponents.

I'll also concede that successfully blitzing Constantine can and have led to turnovers; however, there better be adequate coverage with the blitz. Weber's QB and offensive play has gotten significantly better over the last 1/3 of the season. Weber has more than enough offensive talent to exploit a blitz-happy team, and a more experienced QB now better prepared to handle it.

Finally, you're arguing W/L and quality W/L resumes? Really? I guess you consider Weber's loss to a Utah team who was one score away from a PAC-12 Championship and Rose Bowl berth a worse loss than either or both of Maine's losses to Central Michigan and Yale? Do you also consider Weber's @Northern Arizona(4-6) 4pt loss worse than Maine's @William&Mary(4-6) 7pt loss? Why is that, exactly?

Don't let any East Coast bias fool you into thinking that the Big Sky Conference isn't a tough, quality conference, just as the CAA is. One thing I notice though that has me wondering: a record 6 CAA teams(Maine, JMU, Delaware, Stony Brook, Towson, & Elon) made the playoffs and only 2 were left after the 1st Round-- 1(Maine) had a bye and 1(JMU) because two CAA teams faced each other. JMU lost today, so 1(Maine) remains. Of those 6 CAA playoff teams, Maine played #5 & #6 as a part of playing the bottom 8 CAA teams. I'm not reading too much into that, just noticing that Maine's 7-1 conf. record comes without having played JMU, Delaware, or Stony Brook. On the flip side, Weber played and beat the (tied for 1st), 4th, 5th, and 6th best teams in the Big Sky as part of their 7-1 conf. record. The Big Sky put 4 teams in the playoffs (Weber has played and beaten 2 of the other 3). 1(Montana St.) won in the 1st round but lost to the Bison today, while the other 3(Weber, Eastern Washington, and UC Davis) all won today and make up 3 of the 8 quarter finalists.

I am in no way overconfident concerning Weber's chances of beating Maine but believe they have fair chance. I would bet Coach Hill's mentality is along the lines of "respect everyone, fear no one," and guarantee you Weber does not fear Maine, has the talent and resume reflective of their ranking, and will be prepared to play the best they can against the Black Bears.

I saw Weber State play Sacramento State on November 3rd. Sacramento State is not that good
and they Weber to 26 points. I really think Maine a has stronger offensive line, even though Weber
State is an opportunistic defensive team. I think Maine can hold their own with Weber States defensive line.
Weber State did go 10-2 in the Big Sky Conference.

The other thing is I believe Weber State is 4000 feet above Sea level. Y'all can check on that. So altitude
may be an issue. I was not all that impressed with Weber State when they were in Sacramento. They are more
finesse than physical. They got to SEMO's QB today. But that was because there offensive line was not all that
big. That being said they will be a tough opponent for Maine. But I think Maine is more physical than Weber
State. All of Maines offensive line is 6 foot 3 or over and weigh between 250 to 350. We play a very physical
game on both sides of the ball. I just did not see that yesterday with Weber State. What I did is a lot of quickness which could be a problem for Maine on Blizing but our QB is also quite experienced. I think this will be a close
game but I disagree with you on altitude. When I first move to Denver I had bloody noses for a week. It is
something for Maine players to get used to. But they are in good physical shape so perhaps not too much.

Maine has the number 4 defense in the FCS and they showed it against JSU. But they did give up 27 points.
U.C. Davis comes across as a very tough team as I also got to see them play. I have not seen Eastern Washington.
Any team that can go into Montana and beat them up there has my respect as I have seen that stadium full.
Montana State I know nothing about. Eastern Washington has already played U.C. Davis and beat them badly.
You guys played a tough defensive game against them and won.

Frankly, if Maine can get past this game, I believe they will end up playing U.C. Davis in California unless
UMAINE has a better record than U.C. Davis figuring U.C. Davis gets past Eastern Washington. Not sure how
that schedule would work out. U.C. Davis is more physical and was rated 9th in the Preseason polls of the
Big Sky conference. But they proved everyone wrong. I think they are kind of like the UMAINE of the Big Sky
Conference this year. They won in Montana which is not an easy thing to do.

Their two main offensive weapons are Constantine who averages about 200 yards passing a game
and their running back Josh Davis who is their leading rusher...

For Maine to be successful I think they will need to figure a way to shut down Davis to an extent.
Constantine seems to be on average with 200 yards passing irrespective of who the opponent is.
Davis and Shaheed on the receiving side are there two main threats. Garret had a good game today rushing
the ball but Davis is typically the one main running back. I think you guys will have a tough time against
Maines defense. It is after all not called the "Black Hole" defense for nothing. They intimidate other teams offenses. We were rated 8th in the preseason poll. I don't pretend to know which conference is stronger.
I happen to work out in Sacramento so I have seen U.C. Davis and Sacramento State play. Yes, the CAA teams
were not impressive this year for these playoffs, but we demolished JSU without much of an issue. I think we
are much stronger and we look it. I honestly don't know which way this game will go but I do see your QB
being hit a lot thruout the game. We beat WKU in Kentucky and they had to take their QB off in a stretcher.
Yes we lost to Central Michigan but we did not have Fergie our QB for the full game.

I think SEMO got behind early and played conservatively...threw some interceptions and fumbled...
from there it just went downhill for them. Getting ahead early for Maine like they did today would
be a big bonus and seeing Maine bring their tough brand of defense to this game again...would make the
difference. I just don't know which way this game will break one way or the other. Guess that is why they
play the game after all.

It truly would be great to see UMAINE get into the FCS championship game this year.

Mainefutball you have zero clue about Big Sky Football UC DAVIS is all finesse that is why Eastern Washington handed them their butt during the season. Also if you think Weber is finesse you haven't seen them play at all. I would say the CAA was very overrated this year with only you guys left. Last year we hung with and should have beaten James Madison except for a piss poor penalty call on a blocked field goal. We will see this Friday but teams have been saying all year we aren't that good and not that physical but change their mind after we beat them.

Don't listen to Mainefutball, he's clueless. I'm dunbar and I put the ching in marching band.

Have you actually seen any of these teams play in the BIG SKY Confernence this year...

I rest my case...

This i believe will be the first ever matchup at home against a CAA team. And only our third ever game against the CAA. So far we are 0-2 against the CAA, chance to get that first win this weekend.

I've never read a more inaccurate description of WSU football or big sky football in general. Conrgrats @Mainefutball. Even when Weber was in the terrible years of John L and Sears they were a physical team, just not very talented.

Here is how your "huge" offensive line matches up by position with our offensive line and with SEMO's offensive line that got absolutely embarrassed Saturday. Numbers look pretty similar across the board to me. Should be a fun game Friday night. It's been a few years since I have seen Weber get out physicaled by an FCS school.

SEMO:
LT 6'5" 305 Sr.
LG 6'3" 300 So.
C 5'11" 285 Sr.
RG 6'4" 310 Sr.
RT 6'4" 280 Sr.

Maine:
LT 6'5" 300 So.
LG 6'4" 290 Jr.
C 6'3" 285 Fr.
RG 6'2" 310 So.
RT 6'6" 300 Sr.

Weber:
LT 6'4" 305
LG 6'2" 295
C 6'3" 295
RG 6"4" 300
RT 6'7" 270

I will say this the game is won on the field, not on weber state blog...
Yes I believe this will be a close game but I thought the JSU game would be a close game and I was entirely off base. We scored 42 points in the first half against those guys...

Lets just agree to leave it on the field because that is where it will be won or lost...
