MARKETING DEPARTMENT

Dang...

Not what I wanted to hear...I alone would have taken them around to local businesses if I knew we had a lot of em! What a waste...how come we only decorate the town with the football posters in the fall? No love for men's hoops? After all they do win championships every 2.6 years...not to shabby.

Once again, and I'm sorry for saying this time and time again. Why the hell don't the students get their posters out?? Yes, Kim sucks and does a half-Ass job, but what are the student leaders and athletes doing? Granted, Kim could contact the advisors of the various organization on campus, but why aren't the students more proactive?

When we got together to pass out the posters for football there was 1 student there, thanks Dave for helping out, and guess what, Kim was NOT there neither was any other representative of our FINE marketing dept.
Handing out the Basketball posters was a similar failure, especially since we got them midway through the season.

Isn't that something student government is suppose to do? Why aren't students more supportive and excited about Weber State?

Don't they know that this will be their only college experience? You might as well make the most of it, and have a good time!

I don't know Kim and I don't know anything about the Marketing department, but from what I've seen at the games, they must be pretty stupid and lazy. I still think that Weber Student leaders should be getting the students to go to the events. I don't quiet understand the purpose of the purple pak if they aren't getting students to go to the games.

Why should my student fees be supporting any of these groups if they aren't doing what they were suppose to do!

I agree!! And what needs to happen is get rid of all these worthless peeps doing nothing and getting a scholarship! The student government is basically a joke. They do nothing and their fellow students are the ones paying for the senates tuition!

People say WSU is known as a commuter student but there are thousands of students that live on campus and close by just off campus...I would know I was one of them as a student. Some aren't aware and some need someone to bring them. Many have never been to a game. Most have no clue about WSU being known nationally for basketball success.

PURPLEPAK needs to get back involved...they did a good job putting up signs and all that but it died after the Utah game. What happened? The PPak also did a good job taking the students to ISU so now lets focus on home games!

I think the problem with PPak is that there is only one student kinda trying. As for the rest of student government, it has got to be the worst Institute appointed officers ever at Weber State!! It's been downhill since Kyle and Brody, and sadly the Veletta's. Oh just for kicks Larson the DJ/MathProf/trackster! Don't get me started on the senate... Half of those positions shouldn't even exist, what a waste of money!

I agree. That's why when I am old and rich, the only money I donate to Weber State will go directly to the basketball program. Nothing for the rest of the school. Any other money I decide to donate to a college institution is gong to the U! I hate to say it, but the education i'm receiving there is way better than the one I got from Weber.
Weber basketball is still #1 though!!!

I did have a positive experience at Weber. I loved it there. I"m just saying maybe I can't support a school that isn't doing much to support what I liked best about that school --WSU Hoops!

Now are you comparing your bachelors at WSU to your masters at UoftheU? BTW...when one says "The U" they normally are referring to the University of Miami. Get it right Patten Jr!! You meant the U of the U, no?

yeah, you got me. the UofU. And Weber doesn't offer than many Masters programs, so yeah. Right now, though, i'd be pretty dang proud to be gonig to the U, seeing as they just schooled Duke in hoops yesters.

Ok now enough about the 'Canes and Utes on this board!

Patten Jr, don't allow your anger to affect your loyalties. The U of U is a good school, but don't forget the fact that you are in a graduate program: class size is smaller, the setting is more informal, and professors actually respect and work with you. I agree that my graduate education has been excellent at USU (which is a better school than the U of U), but I do recognize that my experiences at Weber were awesome. You can't compare your graduate experiences with your under-grad experiences. BTW, the profs at Weber have very little say in what the administration does, those are the nimrods hurting Weber. Also, its not my fault that you didn't join the fraternity, and instead were part of the folk dance team at the institute. Ha ha

Aren't your fraternity and the Folk Dance team the same thing? Sorry I didn't join. It's just that the rep of the Sigma Chis was they were all fruity folk dancers. lOOOOOOOOOOl

So, what was up with Mascot Night, I was looking forward to seeing them play at half time. I saw many of them out on the floor shooting layups and getting warmed up for a game, but for some reason they were pushed off making way for a cheerleader routine I've seen about a hundred times. What is up with that! Wasn't a mascot half-time game advertised in the paper?

I agree, that was really lame!! Now the marketing department is lying to get people to come to the games... Great, when the promised event doesn't happen those people who went to see the promotion wont come back! Oh yeah, we just had to see the same d*** dance thing the cheerleaders did two weeks ago, that was just plain stupid!! SNAFU!!!

Kim said today that they really dropped the ball on the mascot game. He said that he takes full responsibility. Whatever that means?! He also said that it would not happen again. blah, blah, blah. All I ever hear out of that guy is that things will get better, but WHEN??? He has been in his job for over 2 years now and not much has changed.

Here is a copy of an email I sent to Kim today:

Kim, I would like to know what happened to mascot night. Typically mascots would be a lot more involved in mascot night and usually provide the halftime entertainment. Thinking this would still be the case I went to all of my friends and neighbors and got 5 families to attend saturday nights game who usually do not come at all. I told these people how fun mascot night would be for their kids, well needless to say after the game all 5 families called me and asked what happened to this great mascot night I told them about. I was totally embarrassed and felt like an idiot because I had no answers for them. I am done harassing my friends and neighbors to come to the WSU football and basketball games, I am done donating my time and gas driving around the area hanging up schedule posters to try and promote WSU athletics, and I am done buying WSU apparel to give to my neighbors, friends and family. As a lifelong WSU fan I am deeply concerned about our sagging attendance, and the lack of marketing that I see taking place.

Here is Kim's reply:
J.D., Thanks for your email and your support. I will tell you that I take responsiblility for the halftime on Saturday night. We knew we had a lot of things to squeeze in and unforunately it was the mascots who we cut short. In the future we will have this night earlier in the season so we don't run into all the conflicts with the final home game. Thanks again for the note and I hope you continue to support Weber State athletics.
COME ON KIM, IT DOESN'T TAKE A FREKIN BRAIN SURGEON TO FIGURE OUT THAT YOU CANT DO ALL OF THAT IN 1 HALF-TIME.
Also, the extra 3,000 people we had there saturday night wern't there to watch the cheerleaders at half time.

MY REPLY TO Kim,

That's all you have to say? I don't think you realize how unhappy many of the boosters are with your performance to this point. And I really don't enjoy looking like an idiot just because you guys can't figure out how to manage the time allotted to you at half time. Once again, I am very concerned with the lack of marketing and promotions that have gone on over the last 2 years. Ogden and the surrounding areas have a large enough population base where WSU shouldn't have to struggle to get more than 4,000 people per game. Our Coaches should not have to do all of the promoting for their own teams, they should be busy coaching. Does the marketing department have any goals? a mission statement? any vision? from what the public can tell, the answer is a very definite NO to all of those questions.

I am finding it very hard to even want to tell anybody about WSU athletics anymore when the people who are paid to do so aren't doing it. If you don't BLEED PURPLE, then you don't belong in that position, and if you do BLEED PURPLE, then show people with your actions.

Let's get this ball rolling and make the Wildcats THE team to support in Northern Utah!!!

LOL, why did they have it the last game? We have never had mascot night the last game? Isn't senior night its own night/diamond ring tournament?

They really should have it towards the first of the season so the fans can keep coming back.

i don't think you can be hattin' too much on kim. he was just trying to have a full half time. Granted none of it would have happened had mascott night been on another night. i still think i twas pretty successful. Even though we didn't get to see 'em play hoops like usual some of the mascotts did a good job of working the fans and making sure they were seen.
