Question to the McNeese folks...

How does your turf hold up when being played on after a lot of rain for the week prior?

Normally, it is pretty decent. But in 2000 it rained about two weeks in a row everyday and we had two home games in a row. The second game was with Nicholls St the last game of the season and was played in 30 degree temps in a misting rain. After all the rain for two weeks and a game before, we ended up with this.

Needless to say, they totally reworked the field since then and I don't know if it would ever get like that again. Right now the field is in the best shape I've ever seen it. Walking on it taking pictures yesterday, it was like a plush golf course fairway.

Of course, we are getting artificial turf after this season and won't have to worry about it next season.

Unless we have a lot of rain in the next week or so, expect a fast track for the game.

P.S. I'll be putting up my pictures from Cowboy Night up tonight and will try to remember to post a link here.

I think Hilo leads in the amount of days that receive rain per year since it rains every afternoon.

Yes, Hilo leads in the United States overall but if you read the second paragraph, this study is talking about the continous 48.

It's been a mistake-filled 24 hours for me. Long story. Has to do with women. Need I say more? It's a learning experience.

I'll head on over after I get done with my Portland State vs. McNeese State game on EA Sports College Football 2008. I don't think the Cowboys are going to pull this one out.

Based on the 10-day forecast, game time temperature will be 79 degrees with sunset shortly after the start of the game. Because of high humidity it will feel like 86 degrees at game time with likely thunder showers.

This is much better than had been expected. By the end of the first quarter it will be 75 and feel like 79.

Must be a cold front coming. it's 10:50 PM now and the temp is 79, feels like 83.

The scrimmage started at 6:30 last night and when it ended around 8:00 or so the humidity was still uncomfortable for the fans.

/users/31/07/37/smiles/880372.gif Your team will survive to play another day. We all know it is not the weather the Vikings really need to be concerned about. BUT, if the weather creates problems for any players it will be the boys in black. The Cowboys have been in it all summer ( I know, I know I sound like a broken record)

Bring on the game

There's a thermal thudershower pattern during the summer. It rains frequently, and often hard, in the afternoons. Then in the winter you frequently get very heavy rains in association with frontal passages because of the moisture available in the air when the cold air hits.

That's the thing. I think if you were to sum up rainy hours...the time during which it rains...Northwestern cities like Seattle would top the list. But when you talk about the amount of water that falls, it's the Gulf coast.

All I can MSU fans is you are not playing Tim Walsh's "We will fall under expectations every season" Viking football team. This new era and the hype around it may consume the Cowboys. Good luck in 10 days but not really. /users/31/07/37/smiles/595146.gif

And, as previously noted, Portland State isn't playiing McNeese's 2004 team either. That 2004 team set a school record for points allowed. It gave up 423 points. The previous record was 356 in 1954 and the program only had one other team that gave up as much as 300 (304 in 1987). So you can see how bad it was.

I don't know if the 2007 McNeese team will up to the level of some previous Cowboy teams, but its pretty much a lock to be a whole heck of a lot better than the 2004 squad.

McNeese has lost one of its advantages over the Viks...the weather. Temperatures are going to be below average on Saturday and the evening game means no mid day sun. I hope the McNeese fans will have their hankies at the game for all the tears they will shed. /users/31/07/37/smiles/mw_thumb.gif

Ummm hummm.

Are you nervous? There has to be a lot of speculation going on in Portland about all the hype being given Jerry and the boys. Can they produce in their first game with new offensive and defensive schemes? Do you have enough wide receivers to keep the offense going for 4 quarters in the "below average" temperature next Saturday?

On the other hand, we know exactly what we are bringing to the field. The cowboys are experienced, focused and ready to go. There are a few players that were in PGE in 2004 so they will be looking to settle that score as well.

Please tell everyone that does make the game tailgating starts early on Saturday (actually Friday evening) so do not wait until late afternoon to come to the game. /users/31/07/37/smiles/595146.gif

Five days away and today the temp at 7PM today is forecast to be 83 degrees but with the 94% humidity it will feel like 103 degrees.

Unless, we get a freak cool front before next Saturday (don't hold your breath on that one), next Saturday's temps won't be much different than today.
