Montana vs EWU

Someone better be ready to lock down Jordan Gregory. Put up 36 vs Idaho tonight and is in a zone right now. Some of the shots he hit against the Vandals tonight were cold-blooded. This game has all the makings of a shootout.

How much does the double overtime game affect the Griz in the game Saturday? Will they be a little weary by the second half of our game?

clawman,
I hope they are so damn tired, they couldn't run half court. Everything is in our court now, all we have to do is perform the way we are capable of performing, and get some help against Sac. State. Idaho have been one of the reasons why we are now tied for "FIRST PLACE". The crowd was 2,226 last night. Heard Larry Weir announce it after the game. See you on Saturday 2:05p.m.. Vic Wallace

That's the problem. We have no lock down defender. Sir Washington was probably our best on ball defender. We lack speed defense at the guard position. We defend the paint well, but a speedy guard can blow by our guards out high. Brandon probably is the best bet, but sometimes it looks like he plays Defense with two cinder blocks on his feet.

The extra 10 minutes of basketball won't be a factor IMO. Especially since it's only an hour and a half drive... This isn't the 'ol Flagstaff to Sacramento turnaround of days gone by....

I disagree, Parker Kelly guarded Gregory for most of the game in Missoula and held him to 7 points. Kelly almost always draws the opponents best shooter and has done a good job.

Gonna have to agree to disagree here. Parker Kelly? That's our athletic on ball defender? Come on man.

Parker is definitely our best on ball defender against any but the most athletic of players... Dison gave him some trouble last night for instance. When he's on the floor his man is the opposing team's best guard. Brandon is the next best on the perimeter of the starters, Harvey is only OK defensively though he has improved in that regard recently. Sir Washington was in between Parker and Brandon, fouls too much still but will get better if he works at it. Garrett Moon is also really good on the outside defensively, but he hampers the offense too much to get that much time.

The hard part in this game will be getting our offense going. Montana defends too well for us to miss on open looks like we have lately... Hopefully they are feeling their legs after that 2OT game by early in the second half. Last game we had a 9 point lead with 2:26 to go and really led almost the entire game.

Should be a great game, Idaho did us a great favor by beating Montana yesterday and doing so in double OT. The Griz basically gifted that game to Idaho though, they griz should have won that game in regulation, they were up 9 late in the game and lost it...

As far as the game Saturday, the Griz will be tired, the game finished late last night, it was an emotional game, and a crushing defeat for the Griz. I'd be surprised if they don't have a bit of a letdown saturday.

Gregory was a stud last night and seems to be hot and cold. Parker did a Fantastic job on him in Missoula and I'd expect the same tomorrow. Parker is a deceivingly really good defender, always locks down the other teams best guard...

Should be a good game saturday but I believe the Bobcats allowed EWU to find their MOJO. Finally healthy with everyone playing well at the perfect time. Harvey is getting better each game, I expect him to score 30+ on Sat...

Really excited for this game, leaving tomorrow at the crack of dawn to scarf down some zips before the game.

I still believe solid "Team" defense is what the eags need to focus on. They may or may not have a defensive stopper, that's debatable. I think Parker does a great job not because he is the quickest or most athletic, but because he is cerebral. I would also agree that Sir is going to be a great lock-down guy given time to develop into one. I really like what Sir brings to the table all-around. A team can have a great one-on-one defender and the overall team can be so-so on defense. Great coaches know how to coach great TEAM defense. I'm not saying a lock-down defender isn't important, but I would rather have both a great Team-D and a lockdown guy. You can get away without having a lockdown guy if you know how to coach TEAM defense and I believe Hayford does. Bottom line, our team is built to outscore you and play pretty good D. I don't think we go into a game saying, "let's just play pretty good defense today," but I think that's what we get most of the time. We have our limitations defensively, but I believe the effort is there and that's all I really care about if I'm a fan or a coach. Don't come near Venky though :bad: !

From the Rafters....
go eags!

This is going to be a tough game. I didn't realize that Montana took both Boise St. and Cal into double overtime. This team can play.

SCOUTING REPORT = We need to extend the pressure on Gfeller, Gregory, and Dunn. They all hit well from 3-land. Venky should be able to handle Breunig but the key will be staying out of foul trouble. Eags just need to stay in attack mode the whole game.

Put the pressure on Breunig early. He has been getting into foul trouble and last game against UM, Venky was far from healthy and did well against Breunig.

Will we see Fred again today? On Thursday the ran a play where Fred got the ball inside the key an passed it to a cutting shooter headed toward the basket. Fred acted like a pole in the mile passing it to the cutter.
