Just checked out the league stats...and we are pretty much mirror images on D.

Ranked 12th and 13th in total defense.

Ranked 11th and 12th in scoring defense.

Our pass D is a little better giving up 60 less ypg, their run D is noticeably better, giving up 100 less ypg.

On offense, we out-gain them by 120 ypg and average 9 more ppg.

Two glaring differences on the schedule are that 1) you can exchange New Mexico Highlands for UNI, and 2) they they haven't had to give up their 450 yards to Poly.

Three glaring weaknesses for the Jacks are 1) they've given up the most sacks in the conference at 21, 2) they are ranked dead last in the conference in 3rd down conversion percentage at 30.4, and 3) they are also ranked dead last in red zone defense giving up 22 TD's and 4 field goals in 26 trips.

This could be a wild one but I also see a few glimmers of sunshine.

They also have the leading rusher in the conference in Jahn, Cookus is leading the Big Sky passing efficiency and a front runner for the Jerry Rice award, and Emmanuel Butler is a legit deep threat leading the conference in ypc at 22.4.

They have some fire power.

REVENGE!

That's what this game is all about. Revenge for last year's game that NAU snatched away from EWU. And revenge taken out on NAU for the way the Eags have played the last few weeks.
Beau and coaches are going to have the Eags fired up for this one. I for one cannot wait to see the Eagles take the field for this one on Saturday. I expect a pissed off team to hit the field and hit the field with heads on fire.

Go Eags!

Our defense is much better now than they were the first 1/3 of the season. I would expect Ebukom to have a banner game.

Could be another wet/windy day in Cheney next saturday.

This has the makings of Eastern scoring a ton of points, hopefully thats the case and we can get it together as our last 3 games are pretty tough...

The only one I'm really concerned with is Montana. I think we win our home games, although PSU is tougher than I thought...

No way, they're the easiest team out of the remaining three.

totally agree. if we played these games tomorrow I think we beat Montana, 50/50 on NAU, and I'd give PSU a 70/30 advantage. not sure why people continue to think that PSU is not legit. not talking about their past records or history, put all that stuff aside. In 2015 they are the best team in the big sky, bar none. I will reverse course if we somehow manage to beat them but lets just say that I would be VERY surprised to see that happen. the only reason we are ranked so much higher than them in the FCS polls is because of past performances, period.

Just watched the NAU vs Bears game on Eversport (god that is terrible!). Well I watched the first half then gave up on the crappy feed and the game was so out of hand I don't think players play the same at that point.
Anyway, NAU doesn't do a lot outstanding but most things pretty good. They blitz a lot and many times don't conceal it. Cookus is a very good passer, adequate runner. They have two good receivers, not to Kupps level, but pretty good. Some speed in the backfield when they get in space. The main thing they don't beat themselves, not in that game anyway.
I think our D has improved enough to keep us in the game. My concern is our O has been somewhat anemic lately, granted there are some plausible excuses, but Weber was able to move the ball when we could not. Teams are keeping Cooper from beating them with his legs and Splendo is not @ 100%. Same with RB's, they are not bursting through holes when they are there.
Tough game

Exactly.

I feel this team will need to play a full game in all three phases to come out with a win this week. I think they can do it, and I believe they will do it. However, in all its simplicity, the offense needs to stop having killer penalties and make plays on 3rd down. The defense needs to step up, get a stop, and get off the field when they force a 3rd and long situation. I know I sound stupid, but I feel those false starts, holding, or chop blocks always happen on 1st down or a 3rd and short and end up killing the drive. Same with the defense,I hope they get the communication issues solved so the middle of the field to the tight end or slot receiver is covered on a 3rd and long, and a linebacker or safety is in position to keep the quarterback contained up the middle.

You guys can give me a beating if I sound stupid on this.

I've been saying it for a couple weeks and it hasn't happened but I think we put a thumping on NAU this weekend and make a statement. We are 5-0 in the Big Sky and haven't played well, its time we put all 3 phases together and dominate a game from start to finish.

52-24 - Eags

PENALTIES G No. Yards Avg/G
1. Idaho State 8 36 274 34.2
2. UC Davis 8 33 281 35.1
3. Montana 8 39 288 36.0
4. Cal Poly 8 41 363 45.4
Portland State 8 39 363 45.4
6. Montana State 8 45 364 45.5
7. Northern Colorado 8 44 366 45.8
8. North Dakota 9 52 422 46.9
9. Sacramento State 8 47 427 53.4
10. Northern Arizona 8 47 479 59.9
11. Eastern Washington 8 57 493 61.6
12. Weber State 9 57 569 63.2
13. Southern Utah 8 58 541 67.6
You are absolutely right the penalties are excessive and very costly. Aside from the yards from the penalty the stat that is not recorded is the number of drives killed, successful plays that come back, disruption in flow. :ohno:
Play fast, play smart!

One could argue that CP and Weber outplayed the Eags. I feel that way.

At the beginning of the season 8-3 or 7-4 seemed realistic based on the schedule and the talent coming back. Young on defense, new QB and a new Def Cor.

Agree that EWU hasn't played their best game, or have they? IMHO their best effort was at UNI.

2010-2014 EWU has been a Top 10 team each year. You're bound to have tough years and 2015 may be it for this program.

Is 2015 a repeat of 2011, except where EWU has been able to pull out 2-3 wins that in 2011 they lost?

Having said that, win their remaining two home games and their BSC champs again. (Don't think SUU will win out).

2011 team certainly didn't lack the talent. For this to be a 2011 sort of season we'd need to lose all of our remaining games. I don't think that's going to happen.

This^ How many times last weekend did the QB pick up a long 3rd down or the middle was totally open. Have to shut this stuff down. For as long as WEEBS had the ball the defense did do well to force the FGs but have got to get off the field.

I'm curious to get other's comments here on how JW is progressing compared to previous EWU QBs,

IMHO seems like to he doesn't go through his progressions consistently and focuses on one or two WRs on most plays.

Keep in mind this is his first full year as the starter. Seemed like VA and BLM were a little farther along after 11-12 starts but maybe not.

GO EAGS
