Jimmy Lake made $500,004. plus bonus last year. And why would be move to Cheney for less than 1/2 of that????????

Head coaching experience.

Ty Gregorak current Montana State Defensive coordinator. With the offensive talent we have a focus on the other side would make us even better

I don't know that having HC on your biz card is worth 1/4 mil per year but whatever...
As long as we have Chaves as AD, the Eagle program will be fine.

I would love to have Jimmy Lake come home but it's not happening. I would add Junior Adams to the list.

I suspect it will be Best and I will be ok with that but I wonder about the OC. I don't know anything about the Camas coach but he keeps winning state titles and having the Offensive player of the year. Could be a nice pick up? I still would want Erik Meyer as QB coach no matter who is the HC or OC.

This is an interesting possibility but I think Chaves is going to go with someone on the staff or has a connection with the current staff.

And, unless there is some high profile home run that we'd be crazy to pass up on, it's hard to imagine wanting to shake the apple cart even more by bringing in an outsider. An outside HC likely would brink in a lot of new assistants, a new philosophy, new schemes, new culture, etc. That we would very likely see some player and recruit attrition, and would make the next few seasons a lot more questionable. I don't know the head coaching chops that Best or Schmedding would bring to the table. But something tells me the way Baldwin developed the players is the same way he develops the coaches. Someone in the current ranks is ready to take a step up.

Does Chaves ride the interim tag through the next season, and see if one of the current interim coaches rises to the top? I think that's a tough role for two people to be in. I would've rather have seen one interim head coach.

Coach Best would seem to be the logical choice but I wonder how Chaves will see it. I'm open to just about anyone at this point as long as it's someone that can continue to deliver a high powered offense.

It's not just about the money. Choate was the UW defensive coordinator before he took the MSU HC job. Think outside the box a little, dude.

Not an "Offense" guy.

Not to speak for another poster but my impression was there is a strong offensive culture in place now, compliment that with a high priority for defense we will be a well balanced team.

This makes no sense whatsoever. Eastern hasn't hired a non-Eastern guy since before my lifetime. Best is the obvious choice; he's been in a leadership position for many years and is highly respected by the other coaches and the players.

Jimmy Lake might be intriguing. I thought Kwiatkowski might be a big time hire, but no way he's leaving for Eastern with his current level of success and grandiose paycheck.

This'll need to be decided within a couple of days to maintain the recruiting class we've got locked in.

In all seriousness, who do you all think it will be? Many have mentioned Coach Best, but is he ready to be a HC? Should Chaves look outside of the program?

Coach Best may seem rough around the edges, but ask any other player/former player and I'm willing to bet they'd say he's the guy. Playing for him for 4 years was great. He's a natural teacher and has an amazing football mind. Plus, he's dedicated his life to EWU football and getting the job would mean 100x more to him than anyone else.
