New Staff?

Well, I have a little info. about the new staff. The new hires are all younger including the QB coach which from what I understand is a past QB for a FCS team that won the national championship. I would think that names are announced this week, but I guess it will happen when it happens.

Football Scoop.com is reporting: Jody Sears, from WSU, as Def Coordinator; Jason Belford, GA from WSU, as Def Line coach; and Richard Owens, GA from Arkansas, as Tight Ends coach.

Any other names?

Craig Stutzmann for WR coach

Also from Football Scoop: "We have been told that the following coaches will not be retained: Jason Kafusi (DL), Jake Cookus (co-DC / STC), Brian Zeches (RBs), Tom Stackaruk (TEs) and Andre Dyson (Corners)."

No surprises there, but doesn't say anything about Swan, Zamberlin, or Beck. Anyone know if any of these coaches will be retained?

Bio of Jody Sears:

Jody Sears, a graduate of Washington State University and former college teammate of former Cougar head coach Paul Wulff, returned to his alma mater in 2008 to coach cornerbacks when his former teammate was named head coach.

Sears spent five years (2003-07) at Eastern Washington University, where he served as Paul Wulff’s defensive coordinator. During his stint with the Eagles, he coached safeties, linebackers and defensive ends.

Prior to uniting with Wulff at EWU, Sears was an assistant coach at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. He served three years on the Black Knight staff, including the 2001 and 2002 season as cornerbacks coach. In 2000, during his rookie year with Army, he assisted with the defensive line.

A 1991 graduate of WSU, Sears lettered twice for the Cougars after walking on as a wide receiver. Like Wulff, he played under head coaches Jim Walden, Dennis Erickson and Mike Price during his tenure with the Cougars. He saw limited field duty during the early portion of his Cougar career, then lettered his final two years and finished with 11 career receptions for 118 yards. Sears also served as the holder for All-America placekicker Jason Hansen on field goal and extra point attempts during his senior year.

Following a brief coaching stint on the high school level, Sears served as a graduate assistant at Iowa State University, where he helped coach defensive backs and wide receivers from 1994 through 1996 for the Cyclones. He received his master’s degree at Iowa State in 1996.

Sears coached at St. Ambrose University in 1998, assuming responsibilities as the defensive coordinator for the Fighting Bees.

For now Swan is still there, he was making calls during the holidays and has been at the offices since the new year.

You're right, Swan is being retained. I'd forgotten that the Standard reported this earlier.

How did it go for Sears when he was at St. Ambrose (I'm guessing NAIA or DIII)? I'm guessing he did pretty well, since he was only there for 1 year.

I have a little more info. on the QB coach: He played at Louisville for one year (under Smith) and than transferred to a FCS school and played for, or won (I don't know which) for a nat'l. championship. I just wish they would announce the entire coaching staff already! I am more than ready for the Athletic Dept. to release some info.!

Justin Rascati - quarterbacks coach

Jason Belford - defensive line coach

Four more are "awaiting background checks and getting university paperwork signed off"

Good Luck with Rascati! His addition to the WSU staff will hurt your program in the long run.

If the past is any indication, look for complete domination of inferior opponents out of JR's QB's, coupled with chokes in close game's.

Not sure how JR has parlayed a washout at Louisville and a NC at JM into a coaching career, but he got a job at "the next level" despite struggling at the High School level. Players hate him because he treats them poorly, doesn't respect them and has no regard for their well being! He'll piss off players while codling his "boys".

Smart money says he's fired before the end of the 12 season.

Gordawg...Welcome to the board. Where did Rascati coach prior to coming to Weber? I hope I'm not being presumptuous, but from your post I got the idea that he, at one time, was a high school coach? Is this correct?

This guy sounds down right angry. Maybe he's a 4th stringer from the Louisville HS where Rascati coached. Or, better yet, the dad or mom of one of those 4th stringers. Maybe he's a JMU fan, or ex-player - JMU is the Dukes, er, Dawgs - could that be why he's "gordawg"? Whatever, it's obvious he's not connected to Weber, and I'm not buying into his comments until he lets us in on how he knows such inside things like "pissing off players while codling his boys"- if he even comments on here ever again.

I am a new fan of your team. Jody Sears is a good friend of mine. Looking forward to following your team. Talked a bit today with him and he is really excited about being there and coaching with John L. Speaking of, huge Arkansas fan, so was sorry to see John L. leave.

N.OgdenCat
- Thanks for the welcome.
- Rascati coached at Kentcuky Country Day. A class A team who's offense posted big numbers against inferior opponents, but seemed to struggle against comparable talent. Several games they should have/could have won, but didn't due to play calling (in my opinion).

Wildcatpast -
- Angry? Nah, just surprised. I thought John L. would have picked someone else from a fairly deep coaching pool in Louisville.
- My insight into player treatment comes from conversations with several players that he coached. I could be wrong about JR, wouldn't be the first time I was wrong, but don't be surprised if you get QB chaos from JR and his methodology.
- My only association with WSU is as a casual fan, that is interested to see how John L and his staff work out.

Good luck during the 12 season!

Is the athletic department ever going to officially announce all of the new hires (new DC)? I assume they have all been hired. :wall:

With the hiring of Coach Stanley, can somebody give me a list of ALL the coaches names and the positions that they will be coaching? Unless I am mistaken, I have not seen who is going to be the DC. :-D

According to the Standard, with the hiring of Stanley the staff is now complete. Sounds like some of the coaches (Jody Sears?) backed out for higher paying jobs. Now the question is, who of these will be the DC?

Perhaps the DC is in place & just hasn't been announced for various reasons...Have you been to any practices and counted the staff heads on the field?
