North Dakota (why can't we fire our staff as well? thread)

That team that beat us fired their coach... they must have standards.

But our coach does things the right way so we're doomed.

They have money to fire their coach.
:ohno: Too bad we can't take donations, have a cook off or have a car wash or something...anything...

We can make it like "Dan's Bake Sale" in Fort Collins back in the day (the younger set may have to google it).

Anybody see that Wyoming also fired their coach today. His 9-15 record over the last 2 years is outstanding compared to Collins. But I guess Christensen wasn't doing things the right way. Probably had nothing to do with his record.

Fair points but for next year there has to be some standards, how much does he need to improve to keep his job I can't imagine another winless or 1 win season will do it.

Yea, Weber State, North Dakota, and Wyoming have all fired their football coaches for lesser acts of wins & losses. We can assume our current administration is going to do nothing (and leave the dirty work for Dunn) and in all fairness to our new AD, he cannot do anything until he gets on the job and then at least another month will pass by after an evaluation and it will be to late ! Stay tuned

I feel like there might be slight chance that something will happen but I won't get my hopes up. If the guys on this board are sending emails to Dunn, and he's actually reading them, he's going to wonder why he's getting emails about Collins. Hopefully it will make him want to looking into Collins.

The chances of something happening get smaller and smaller with each passing day. If something doesn't happen by the end of this week, at the outside next week, than it will be too late. We will have to settle in for another year of Collins at the helm and have to hope that Dunn does not renew his contract for 2015 or beyond.

I think that you all just need to cool your jets. Attached is an article from the Kansas City Star about Charlie Weiss, the head football coach at the University of Kansas: http://www.kansascity.com/2013/11/30/4660042/halftime-report-kansas-state-21.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
For those of you unfamiliar with the program at Kansas, under head coach Mike Mangino (National Coach of the Year in 2007) they played qualified and won a BCS bowl game. After he was forced to resign in 2009, he was replaced by Turner Gill. Gill lasted two years and was replaced by Charlie Weiss. Since Mangino, Kansas is 9 and 39. Weiss' record is a dismal 4 and 20 with 2 of those wins coming against FCS teams. Kansas' AD Zenger was quoted in the article, “I’ve been through rebuilding projects many times, and we’re going to stay the course,” Zenger said. “Wins and loses aren’t always indicative of the effort put in by this coaching staff and these players over the past couple of years.
“I’m proud of their effort and their work ethic, and we’ll continue to chop away at this.” Zenger is right. Coach Collins, his staff, and his players will "continue to chop away at this." Charlie Weiss has multiple Super Bowl rings from his time with the Patriots. His staff includes defensive coordinator Dave Campos, former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Are these two bad coaches just because they haven't won at Kansas? NO! Are they clueless coaches that don't know how to prepare a team? NO! My point is that it takes time to turn around a losing program. Losing is a culture. We need to be patient, just like the AD from Kansas is.

So the difference seems to be that Coach Weiss had the credentials, experience, and resume in place ! I got it now !
My point is that even with the credentials those guys have, turning a losing program around is a LONG, up hill battle. Before you can win, you have to stop losing. Not sure who said it, but it makes alot of sense.

So how long does a new coach get? Downing got 56 games. Does every new coach deserve 5 years to turn it around? I don't want another 3 years of 1-3 wins a season.

That's the $64 question isn't it. As a fan its hard to watch a team lose, especially if they lose consistantly. I beleive that Coach Collins and his staff are moving the program in a positive direction. The wins/losses column may not reflect that, but wins are not going to come quickly or easily. The seniors that just played there last game as Bears, never had a winning season, under Collins or Downing. Collins inherited a losing program with a losing culture. He and his staff are taking the steps necessary to change that culture. How long will it take to start winning? Again, that's another $64 question. Even if Collins were replaced tomorrow, the culture of the team will not change instantly with a new coach. It would be a LONG, up hill battle for them as well. As fans, we need (have) to be patient.

That's all well and good, but every coach will chop away at it. Doesn't mean they will be successful. Chopping away at it also implies that you are making progress and improving. UNC clearly did not show improvement this year. Where's the progress in going from 5 wins back to 1 win?

Being a solid OC working under a great head coach does not necessarily make you a great head coach yourself. I highly doubt Kansas will stay the course with Weiss if they go back to winning only 1 game next year.

I guess Wyoming, Weber State, North Dakota and others have no patience ! Myself, if in a losing culture , I am going to be pro active ! That's just me
