Mike Riley said Beaver LB Josh Williams has been dismissed for a rules violation.

Riley said it makes the Beavs very thin at middle linebacker.

Seems they have had a couple of playera dismissed in the past couple of months. I'm wondering how our own Linebackers are going to look after losing so many to graduation.

Here is an early look at the match-up.

The very early look at OSU’s opener vs. EWU:

THIS ISN’T A great season opener for Oregon State. Eastern Washington is an FCS school and there isn’t much credence given to FCS schools by the media and fans -- the Beavs, likely to be a preseason Top 25 team, will be expected to roll. The problem is, EWU has come within an eyelash of a Pac-12 upset the past two years and it looks like they're again going to be a very good football team in 2013.

Eastern Washington finished up last year ranked No. 4 in the FCS. They barely lost to Washington State 24-20 in 2012 and the year before, they all but pulled off the upset against UW in a 30-27 loss. In both games, the Husky game in particular, they decisively won the total yards battle -- (EWU 469 – WSU 355); (EWU 504 – UW 250).

And if you’re still not convinced, consider that 69 Eagles since 1989 have either been drafted or signed free-agent contracts with the NFL or the Canadian Football League.

The secondary, meanwhile, is the strength of the team. Former UCLA safety Tevin McDonald now lines up for the Eagles. And T.J. Lee III, another All-America selection, is a very good corner. While those two may be the headliners in the defensive backfield, there is a lot of depth and other potential first-team, all-league types.

Eastern returns four of its five starting offensive linemen: redshirt sophomore LT Clay DeBord and three seniors - left guard Steven Forgette and center Ashton Miller and right guard Drew Reynolds. Cassidy Curtis looked to be the heir apparent to All-American Will Post at right tackle but that may have changed this week, (see notable notes.)

its going to be interesting to say the least. I think we'll be ok. McCarthy really needs to step up and be a leader in that linebacking corps.

Pretty good recap.

Just ordered our tickets for the game. The 3rd year since our student left the program, and the 3rd year we've road tripped to the opener at the BCS schools. Eagle fans for life!

I don't think we have seen anything close to McCarthy's potential. I know we cannot talk about injuries and illness but I will just say he has battled a lot of adversity since coming to Cheney and the fact that he suited up last year at all speaks to his toughness. Hopefully his breaks are behind him and he can step up and be a factor in the D this year and next.

I agree. This is the year he really has the opportunity to step up and make his mark if he can stay healthy. I dunno, despite the schedule I am really feeling good about this defense and this team in general. There is a great "buzz".

I am not seeing any weak parts in this team. I watched the scrimmages this spring and was especially impressed with the defense. One thing I noticed which I think has been lacking since the 2010 team is the sideline to sideline speed, and the secondary might be the best in the FCS. Starting to get fired up for this season to begin.

I agree. You could look around and see a couple of areas where a specific unit
is untested as a collective group, but I would agree that from what's on paper and from what i have read and heard there are no flaring weaknesses.

Ronnie Hamlin is now 235 pounds. That dude is going to take someone's head off this year. Jordan Tripp can eat a dick.

Whoa now DOPA. Quit picking on Tripp. He has enough problems with just being an average player and having to dodge all the GRIZ groupies that have man crushes on him.:D

Tripp's a good player for sure. I did get a kick out of watching Adams fake him out of his cleats last year though. Ankle-breaker!

Hamlin is gonna have an awesome year, akin to JC's in 2010. Can't wait.

I was just thinking. Could this be the game where we finally see a mistake-free game with our best players on the field? The Idaho win was nice, but the Vandals aren't close to a PAC12 team. We had our chances against the Dawgs and Cougs, but against UW, we made too many mistakes. Against the Cougs, I think we had our best QB on the sideline. Even without the big 3 at WR, I think we've got enough talent to win this game. Maybe more talent than ever. Maybe I'm crazy, but with our experience and depth, I think our timing for an upset is just right.

I think what was most odd to me about the Idaho game was how handily we controlled both lines of scrimmage and just the general disparity in talent levels. I mean, we held their offense to a single FG and ran the ball down their throats in the 4th qtr. But you are right, they are nowhere near the level of competition that any Pac-12 team provides.

I'd like to think that we can at leadt keep the OSU game close as we have done in the past couple of years. Noteworthy of those games was we had basically 3 Pac 12 caliber WR's that both the UW and WSU had difficulty containing. Now we have smaller, faster guys at that position that will be going up against DB's that will be equally as fast, so the size advantage we had in the past won't be a factor. It's going to be interesting to see how we attack on offense.
