I"m conflicted on this one I need to learn more about a few but I went out on a limb and selected Ernest Collins, he is a head coach at this level, played at UNC, and also don't forget has ties to Kansas...

I would imagine that Deti is getting votes from a lot of the UNC players who read and post on this board.

That's exactly what I think. I like Deti as a coordinator but I'm not sure he would make a good HC. The more I think about it though, we just can't afford to bring a better head coach and it will come down to either Deti or Peterson. And to answer Brian's question: Every player I've talked to said they loved playing for Scott. I doubt they wanted to see him go. I just don't get how if they loved the guy so much why they didn't play better for him. They're just as much to blame as Downing is for the futility. Scott was just the sacrifice. You can't fire an entire team, so the head guy has to go.

I will never forgive Jay if he hires Deti or Peterson, maybe they would make ok or even good HCs, but this program needs to clean house. I know Deti has put a decent product on the field and anyone who coached under Snyder is ok in my book, but the culture of suck needs to be eliminated from UNC. I also have a hard time believing that Downing alone was responsible for the catastrophe of the last 5 years, so they all need to go. I wish them the best of luck elsewhere and maybe they can go to a DII HC job and come back here if they prove themselves.

Deti was a coordinator here for what, 4 or 5 years of terrible football and he gets a promotion to HC?

I agree I'd be pissed and also totally hopeless.

Let us not forget there is a business side to this and attendance will be worse than ever if they just promote some boner from the current staff.

If it's a money issue then go hire an RMAC guy to at least change the culture and vison.

was a player under Coach Deti and we would be lucky to get him to be the next HC. In the last few years under Deti the defense has finished in the top half of the league which is good since our record sucked each year. He works his ass off and so do the other coaches on defense. He's not afraid to rip someones ass when you dont do it right and be on your ass until you get it right. He would put everything he has into this to get some wins...and from what ive heard a lot of the players would support him if he gets the job.

So as a former player what in your opinion was the cause of all the futility? Downing? facilities, scholarships, support, other?

I just noticed that we played the number 1 team in the country 35-28 and and played the number 6 team in the country 37-35. To have only lost by a total of 9 pts to a couple of the best teams in the nation says that this team must have been doing something right. Both these coaches would make a good transition to the HC with the least disruption to the program. Just look at Portland State and how they went from bad to terrible with the new coaching staff. I still think we can go from bad to great with what we were doing and the players we have. Coach Downing needed to go, but I think the program was on track to do well.

we can put the blame in some different areas. Downing was a nice man and a good coach but he would never get angry or excited about anything. Not very motivating for me - he kept us out of trouble and made sure we were going to class but never had fire on gameday. he was part of the problem. Facilities were a problem but shouldnt be anymore. got to take a tour of their new lockerroom which is dope and the fields they practice on are in good shape. scholarships are all about money and everyone knows unc doesnt have any. all those games we went and got our asses kicked (haiwai, purdue, kansas, michigan state) football didnt get that money the department did. support is a problem but i get it youve got to win to get some and we didnt do that.

I've been following what's being said on netbuffs.com and most of their fans really like Cabral. He's a great guy, knows how to motivate his players and can recruit. He would be a great fit. However, he can still remain with the Buffs. I can see where alwaysabear is coming from. Deti didn't have any players his first year or two and he didn't have much chance for success. However, the past 3 or so years they've been solid. HHHHMMM...Deti as head coach. I can live with that.

I can see where your coming from. Scott brought in some good talent and we're on the right path. I'm torn between a couple options right now.

Thank you for your honest assessment. The part I bolded, wasn't this one of the big problems we had with Downing (and his inability to be just a bit risky late in the game)? If Deti has those qualities he could be the right choice for HC, and my guess is, he would get the most out of the Juniors and Seniors.

Read todays Tribune!! 2 more guys have thrown their hat in the ring.Denver Johnson from CU "really" wants the job by reading his words!! The other guy is from Kentucky and he is going after it but did not sound as impressive to me as Johnson. Just a first impression of the 2. I really have not given coach Deti a thought as HC but who knows.

I like the "culture of suck" description of our program too, which is why I can't see any reason on god's green earth that we should hire someone from CU. That program is the FBS equivalent of UNC and losing is perfectly acceptable in Boulder--if we were looking for a frisbee golf or bong olympics coach then that would be a different story.

Also, I've said it before, but it would be a huge mistake to bring in an assistant from a major program. Those guys are used to being overfunded and pampered and they will blame UNC's lack of resources on why they can't turn the program around. I am not interested in excuses, I'm interested in winning

I'm not sure who I'm really pulling for, if anyone, it would be the CSU-Pueblo coach. No on Deti, I don't know what qualifies that guy as a head coach. What, because you were able to run a half way decent defense? I think we need to bring in a guy that is a recent head coach or has been a head coach for more than 1 year. I'm not too sure about bringing in a FBS assistant, unless he is a OC or DC currently, not the water boy.

Really? Not even Cabral? He was there when CU was National Champs.

Cabral was not appealing the last go around because he had the "culture of sleaze" stink on him from all the sleaze surrounding the Neuheisel and Barnett years. He might be more appealing this time around.

Cabral is out of the picture with the CU job. I doubt he would even be asked back by the new coach. This is just reading from the DP and Boulder Daily camera. Seems like Embree and Bienemy don't have him in the picture. Now is the time Jay, get on the phone to Boulder and set up the interview. Can we have a new coach heading into the weekend?
