Looks like we'll be facing a ranked opponent on Wednesday.

That's priceless! No mention of the 3 straight losses in the series. UP has all its players back, while most teams in the country graduated contributors of some sort. If they weren't good with all these upperclassmen I'd be worried.

That's not fair.

That pitch that Victor E Viking threw was a knuckleball and had a good ten inches of movement.

:-)

Yes!!! Best night in a long time! Badgers beat the Dookies to win Big 10/ACC Challenge (Duke was previously 10-0 in the Challenge), and the Vikings make a vicious comeback in the Showdown to show this city where THE college basketball program resides.

Good rally by the Vikings, nice comeback got it done,Waters took the game over, best game by Guede yet.looks like the rotation is taking shape.Props to the Pilots, they will beat the Zags this year.

2nd time in Portland State history in beating a top 25 team. Waters was like JD last year in the 2nd half, Guede had his best game as a Viking and I believe it's 4 straight against the Pilots!!!!!!!!! :)

Huge win, a fun one to listen to, we were 15 point underdogs in this game. We've still got a lot to work on defensively, but showed some flashes. Guede and Jamie Jones were big defensively down the stretch and that will be key going forward. Really wish I could have gone to this game, but great to see the team back on the right track.

Nice to see the team get back on track.

Of all years you'd think the Pilots would beat PSU, this was the one. Guess we know who still owns the city when it comes to basketball.

(Cough......college basketball that is.....)

Great win!

Props to us PSU folks making some noise for our guys down the stretch.

I was a little concerned when UP switched to zone in the first half. For two possessions, we literally looked like we'd never seen a zone. Nice adjustments by the coaching staff. When they switched to zone in the second half, we ran our motion and got the ball to the basket like we knew what we were doing. A few balls were in and out, but we looked good.

There are things to work on, but this is the kind of game that can really have things start to come together as a team.

Portland State beats No. 25 Portland 86-82

PORTLAND, Ore. — Dominic Waters scored 21 of his 23 points in the second half and Portland State rallied for an 86-82 victory over No. 25 Portland in the Pilots' first game as a ranked team in 50 years.

The Vikings (2-4) have won four consecutive games over cross-town rival Portland (5-2), which was ranked for three weeks in the 1958-59 season.

Portland led 74-62 with 9:20 left, but Portland State reeled off 10 straight points, including consecutive 3-pointers by Waters and Paul Guede, to quickly trim the deficit to 74-72.

Portland State took the lead at 81-80 when Waters hit a 3-pointer with 3 minutes remaining.

The Vikings pushed the lead to 85-82 on two free throw by Waters with 22 seconds left. Portland had a chance to tie but Nik Raivios 3-point attempt from the corner was off the mark.

Robin Smeulders led Portland with 20 points and nine rebounds. Raivio added 17 points, 15 in the first half, and topped the 1,000 mark for his career at Portland.

Portland State kept itself in the game with the 3-pointer. The Vikings hit 10 of 14 attempts from beyond the arc in the first half. Melvin Jones was 5 of 6 on 3s, and Phil Nelson and Dane Johnson had two each. Portland State shot 60 percent (15 of 25) on 3s for the game.

The 15 3-pointers tied a Chiles Center record, which was set in 1998 by Loyola Marymount and matched in 2003 by Oregon.

The two things that stood out to me and you said them both:

I really thought we were in big trouble when Waters picked up his 4th foul. He sure stepped up in crunch time, scoring and not getting that 5th foul. I've never been to a road game before, sure was a lot of fun to watch a win in someone else's building!
