Predictions EWU 10 @ Texas Tech Gigillion Wk 1

Fify said:
You slappies really think you are going to go to Texas with a new coaching staff, loss of three great receivers, dudes leaving the program & an oline that's a mess and 80 percent of you predict you'll win????

What a joke

Beagles will be lucky to be within 21 points.

Beagles 14
Tech 48

Ok ...

1. O-Line is not a mess, 1 guy left, that poses a problem, but last year EWU was starting a bunch of guys that had never played. OL is in better shape this season than fans thought it was at the start of last season.

2. Lost recievers, correct. Remains to be seen how that will play out this season, but go watch a few of the games last season when some of the younger guys did get on the field and you will see why fans are optimistic. There will definitely be a drop off, but then again we can go back quite a few years before we see a receiving corp at EWU that wasn't dominant. Eric Kimble, Aaron Boyce, Brandon Kauffman, Cooper Kupp, etc, etc, etc. (See NDSU game)

3. New coaching staff will be tough, but there is definite continuity to the staff. Defensive staff remains in place and it is a young team maturing. Offensively I heard a lot last season about how our staff had hired a new OC from a high school and how could a high school coach roll into a PAC-12 program on the 1st weekend and compete. Well ...

While there is some validity to a few of your points, something that has probably heightened expectations is that we have done some version of this almost every year. Last season was a new OC and a walk on QB ... beat WSU. The year before was on the road against #7 Oregon and our QB left to play for them and we had a new DC ... scored 42 in a loss. Maybe if fans went into it expecting to get waxed by UW by 50, we could celebrate a 42 point loss, but that is more of a griz thing to do.

All that being said, I have absolutely no idea what to expect this weekend. I know EWU expects to compete though.

Not gonna deny the prediction thread has an element of "homerism" sometimes; especially at season openers with so much uncertainty and facing FBS opponents.

Appears a nerve has been struck with several of the TT fans. Did find it fascinating that many TT fans think this will be a blowout with the classic; "we'll wear them down in the second half mantra", but the posted results of the recent past one provided shows this just isn't the case. Would love to crush every team we face with Tide like efficiency and dominance, but will take a win this week against TT however it comes.

For my part, looking for the team to stay healthy, grow up this week in Lubbock and show that historical improvement from game one to game two, show the moxie we have grown accustomed too, get a win and be ready for the big game against NDSU on the Inferno week 2. Love the passion. See you in Lubbock.

Wake up call Eagle fans.

This will not be a fun trip, it is going to be a booty blasting. I know you all are very excited because you had some good receivers last year, but that won't do you much good this year. Your offense MAY be able to put up 28-31 points throughout the course of the game against our terrible defense- that may be too generous, though.

Tech offense will have too much depth and your defense will be gassed by the middle of the third quarter. This is the best group of receivers Tech has had since 2007, and your DBs will not be able to match up. EWU is good for a cute win against an FBS team every once in a blue moon, so I know you all have convinced yourself that "if A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, & I go our way, we will win this game!!!!"

Just here to bring you guys back to reality land so your feelings aren't super hurt Saturday evening. Hope you don't make the long cross country trip expecting to win just to see a one-sided smackdown. If you do however, I recommend going to Spanky's across from campus and indulging in some fried cheese. I know you hippies up in the Northwest don't eat much besides seafood and kale.

I digress..........Tech wins this one 58-27. Thanks for the tune up game!

I think y'all are underestimating Tech.
I know y'all caught WSU by surprise, but no one at Tech is sleeping on EWU.
I think depth is going to be a big factor. Also look at what we did to ASU, OU, OKST last year offensively... No disrespect to y'alls defense, but we've dominated better. 55-38 Tech.
Will gladly eat crow if I'm wrong and Tech loses.

Hardly. Another FCS team (PSU) beat them the year prior, and EWU is in their backyard. WSU wasn't caught sleeping, they just got outplayed.

Tech very well may win, but it will be no blowout unless your new QB is the 2nd coming of Mahomes.

Exactly. If any FBS team wouldn't be surprised, it was WSU, who had something to prove, after their fail against PSU the year before. WSU almost lost to us in 2010 in a game we should've won, had seen us compete with other Pac NW team in UW, Oregon, and OSU.

That being said, I think EWU's reputation is strong enough as one of the premier FCS powers, Texas Tech won't take us lightly as well. I think it still remains that any of these FCS scalps are an upset. I look foward to EWU making it a competive game, and maybe coming out with the win. I give us a 35% chance. Either way, I think it ends within one score.

Hell, they may as well just cancel the game.

Right? Even if TT has improved after losing their all world QB (doubtful), was it a leaps and bounds type improvement? If not, the only way this is a blowout is if TT is +5 in TO margin. Geeked to see the new season begin.

After much reflection and deep thought, I feel like you guys may be right. I am probably not giving EWU their due.

Tech still wins, but it will be closer than expected.

OK, this is funny.

Couldn't find a recent hype video, so let's go with the big one: youtube wouldn't play correctly, so here is the url.

Not sure this is realistic for us to now just casually predict EWU will stroll into a 60K seat stadium and beat a FBS power conference team.

What does the stadium capacity have to do with anything?? Also the Big 12 has seen better days. What a great conference, but it's not the SEC.

Noise? First time watching football for you? :ohno:

Wow, hope you guys are right! Not sure this is realistic for us to now just casually predict EWU will stroll into a 60K seat stadium and beat a FBS power conference team. I think we need to be a little more level headed here. Losing that trio of WR's we lost is going to massively impact the Offense. I think we battle and wont be embarrassed but, being real and not a homer, i say 37-20 Texas Tech.

Jason;
Are you familiar with the Cougars? OSU Beavers? Even the Huskies got quite a scare by our Eagles. Even if their stadium has a capacity of 60k if it is not full what is that worth?

Was at 2 of those 3 games you mention. of course im familiar with them. Just being realistic. Sorry, forgot I was in EWU homer land, not reality. Hope I'm wrong Mr ClawMan.

We could field JasonEWU on Saturday. He is pretty defensive and that might help.

I'll get in on this. I think you guys keep it competitive until the 4th quarter, and then Texas Tech pulls away. 38-24 Red Raiders. Still not a bad effort for a big sky team against a big 12 team.

I hope I am completely off base here, but I'm going with 42-28 Texas Tech. I think we can keep it a competitive game but it's hard to ignore all the weapons they have on offense.

I've done some re-evaluation as well. The game should not be canceled, the Eagles need a walk through warm up to NDSU next week.
