QB Situation going forward....

I think the play calling was a little conservative because the coaches are expecting more than they are getting from the OL. Neary and DeBord are pro prospects and they couldn't get anything against UNI. How a group returning 8 of 10 from their two-deep can suddenly be totally ineffective is a shock to me.

Re-watched some of the game and Dopa has a point. Without conjecturing about why this could be happening beyond saying someone on the line needs to step up and show some leadership (again, TV wasn't showing the off field activity of linemen working on the issues); looking for the effort on Saturday against MSU to be much improved on the Inferno and having a week at "home". If not, there are bigger issues than any of us are privy too.

Want to see Coach B get back to "Let 'er Rip".

I am not sure what Coach was thinking. West was excellent and only missed two throws in the first half, then down by 1 score and he decides to change Quarterbacks..... What game was he watching. You don't change, just so you can Get a look at someone else in that point in a game that your Starter was having a Great game. That move took them out of game and Rhythem. You change when your starter is having a bad game or your 40 ahead and 2 minutes left in game. Both quarterbacks played well, but West was better and was in Rhythem.

I did think this was a bit odd too, but I trust Baldwin. It was weird because West was 19-22 in the first half with almost 300 yds, 2 tds, and no turnovers. We knew we were getting the ball to start the 2nd half. It did seem a bit strange, and then our first two series in the 2nd half end up in punts. I thought that was our chance to really take control of the game.

Guess we can 2nd guess a lot and Baldwin has earned his respect for his decisions because he is a proven winner.

I think the OL problems are that injuries have impacted us early and the junior backups haven't stepped up and played the way we need them to play. Next year I expect to see a whole bunch of underclassmen starting over the current juniors. I'd guess at least 3 spots will be Redshirt freshmen on the OL.

As far as the injuries, we've had Boatright with a knee just before the Oregon game, and although he didn't miss game time it likely hurt his effort a little bit and then losing RT Curtis is of course the biggest injury.

We have a player getting his first start at RT this week (#74), and I'm hoping he does a great job because that would really help us get on track.

I have to say this kid has impressed more than any other player this year. I really thought our offense was going to be lack luster after what I saw last year from Jordan but he has surpassed what I thought he was capable of doing. QB and WR is the least of my concerns now, West, Hennessey and Gubrud have what it takes to move the offense. Looks like all our games are going to be shoot outs from here on out.

I will admit, I've been a little unfair to JW this last few weeks. Although I knew he was a talent, I questioned his leadership abilities. Jordan looked like a leader yesterday. He made smart decisions, incredible throws, and looked like a seasoned vet out there!

It's clear that our coaches have outstanding offensive minds and even better talent to choose from. As long as this staff is running things, our offense will be great. Defensively, well.... I think there is SOME improvement, but still a looooong way to go.

Good W yesterday, let's get another heading into a much needed bye week.

He played his best game this week I thought... but he has played well every game IMO. I still think it's a shame Hennessy was injured because he too has played extremely well. I hate to see an injury decide a competition battle. West has done exactly what he needed to do with the extra game time though!

He had something like a 371 QB rating. That's unheard of. If he doesn't get Big Sky/National POW, it will be a joke.

Yesterday, Jordan West was 21-of-24 for 410 yards and six touchdowns. He had an efficiency rating of 332.8 which I believe is a conference record, still looking into it. He did not throw a completion after the first quarter. Of his 21 completions, 16 were for more than 15 yards and 10 went for more than 29 yards. He threw touchdowns of 78, 36, 34 and 38 yards. Of his five passes that went less than 15 yards, four were screens to either Cooper Kupp or Kendrick Bourne. The fifth was the shovel pass touchdown toss to Zach Wimberly.

I was blown away by Jordan West. He was as good as every Eastern Washington quarterback I've covered since I've covered the league (started in 2006). He stands tall in the pocket, delivers the ball with confidence and definitely has a presence. I've interviewed him a few times this season and he's a very confident, charismatic guy. Granted, yesterday's performance came against a secondary that was third to last in the country in pass defense and is likely worse this season. Vernon Adams is the best improviser I've seen in the league. His gunslinger mentality was among the best I've seen in the Big Sky. But I would argue that West actually fits Beau Baldwin's system better. If Eastern Washington can get healthy, that offense is going to be even more devastating.

West gets National & Big Sky honors.

Remember when JC Sherrit was getting national attention? Will an EWU defensive player EVER be considered for league or national honors?

Not when we are giving up 100+ offensive plays in a game.

Seattle Eagle,
I've been watching Jordan West in practices, he is going to get a lot better with each game. Reilley Hennessey is walking a lot better, I think he should be ready pretty soon. Love when our 3 Quarterbacks are healthy. Spoke to our 4th, QB - Andrew Zimmerman on Friday, he doesn't know when he will be ready, back problems. Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace

I might be in the minority but I think we improved at the QB position. For sure with West and maybe with Hennessey too. I'm rooting for VA at UO but I'm glad he's there and not here. My opinion has nothing to do with yesterday's results. When we played down there I thought VA was the third best QB that played that day.

I would have disagreed with you before the last couple of weeks. Jordan West has showed himself to be a monster against BSC teams. He was near perfect against Montana State. But he may have even impressed me more yesterday... largely because he showed the same winning attitude we got accustomed to with Vernon.

We played like absolute ass in the first half. Both sides of the ball were a mess. A lot of team would have lost confidence and struggled all 4 quarters. Jordan West's play was consistent (consistently good), he seemed poised, and demonstrated a confidence that he could get us back into the game. I was extremely impressed, because we'll need that again at some point.

His stats were once again borderline absurd and video-game-like, and they could have been much better had so many great balls been dropped. In what appears somewhat comical now, even the sure-handed Kupp and Bourne had some bad drops.
