Remaining Hires

Any good references from the board? Here is the best i've found.

Fred"s a baller for real!. I believe his senior year at EWU he played without his acl in both knees and he has seven daughter's.

Initial impression is underwhelming. Wonder what the deciding factors were because at first glance it looks like its based on player history and personal relationship rather than proven coaching experience and strategy. O.C is too important a position to base hiring off of personal relationship. Hope this isn't the case but resume doesn't show much to prove otherwise.

He will be a good OC for EWU...tough dude, I think we will like this hire in time.

Pretty sure Dumas is going to be our WR coach, after he left CWU, I thought he was a shoe in...

and rumor is that the UND RB coach is headed our way, which would be great...

Hmm, interesting hire. That's quite a jump from HS head coach to an offensive coordinator at the FCS level, though.

I like the hire. Fred was very successful as a HC at Radford HS in Hawaii. He did a lot with minimal resources, won a state title, and produced a number of D1 prospects along the way. I really like the potential Polynesian/Hawaiian recruiting connections he potentially brings, as I've thought lately that this region was often overlooked by Eastern for some reason.

I just saw on twitter that you guys announced the hiring of Jay Dumas as your new Wide Receivers coach. You guys will like Coach Dumas. I coached with him for two years at Davis HS and he is a great coach. Excellent at teaching the fundamentals of receiver play, outstanding communicator. He will do a great job with your WR's. I also believe he will be EXCELLENT for you guys as a recruiter

If I were talking to Best in person, the first question I would have is "what does he bring to the table?" Besides coaching what experiences will contribute to the betterment of the team?
ex. look what Troy Taylor brought to an already prolific offense that appeared to be one of the best in FCS.

My exact feelings. It seems like Best has had a hard time putting together his staff and is having to dive down to the HS ranks on a couple guys. I'm not going to prejudge too much because they might be outstanding, but right now I am underwhelmed for sure.

Definitely a head scratcher.

Nobody has any idea how and of these hires will play out. Let's give the new coaches a chance before we cast any sort of judgement.

Maybe wait for the season to unfold before getting too worked up.

These two quotes above...^^^^^

Does anyone remember who the OC was when BB took over? How about the following year? Eagle fans like us new them but they were not exactly household names nor did they have a ton of experience as coordinators. (Hint: one is still on the staff...and we had a pretty damn productive year in 2009 8-) )

How about our last WR's coach? Here's how much experience he had...zero. He's now the WR at a Pac12 program.

Not sure what people expected with limited resources. With OC, You're going to tend toward FCS position coaches looking for their first OC job, MAYBE a lower division HC like Sturdy looking for a stepping stone, and likely, some very successful HS coaches like a Taylor.

It's not as though the pool of candidates is deep. I like the EWU connection and Fred is obviuosly successful in running a program and offense. He's also driven and smart enough to earn two degrees (TR is a challenging one) while raising a large family and coaching.

Play calling at this level will be a new challenge, but let's wait and see before throwing him under the bus.

I'm excited!

kalm...I thought BB was BB's O.C. most of the time even though there may have been a different name under that particular position name.
