Reno- BSC:Conference officially starts the Spin

When talking about attendance being down,
"Our gate revenues really haven't taken a dip at all. Our walk up crowds and gate haven't changed at all."

They are considering moving the student section.

What they should be concerned with is season ticket sales and since that wasn't mentioned I'll assume that it's down. And until they improve the home schedule I don't see that trend reversing.

The gate was crap last year, so we know nothing improved this season. I would argue, it was a bit worse by Bovees reaction. Biggest issue, the difference between last season and this season. Last year was the worst team in a decade, a team with a losing record. This season, we have a 20 win team, NBA hopeful in Bolomboy, and are arguably the best team in the conference and guess what... Less interest. Weber made less money. Why? Terrible marketing (at least athletics is consistent with something), home schedule, TV (which I think helps in the long run. Fans in Blanding or St. George etc, can watch the game. That's a win for me.), and of course reNO. Little excitement in the team this season. We are getting killed because of the Sky's terrible reNO decision.

I don't see Reno as being a huge difference maker in our attendance this year. TV may have had some impact, but little. Out of the things you mentioned, I would say the poor preseason schedule and last years poor team showing had the most to do with it. One of the biggest concerns, to me, has been the lack of student body support. Up until last week, the student section has been nearly nonexistent. As for marketing, I'm sure that they are looking at return on investment, or at least they should be. Maybe they have invested little bits, here and there, and have not seen any effect. They may have concluded that it was a waste of time and money. What they really should have concluded was that they were spending for the wrong things. Times have changed, people have changed, and they will need to change the way they market. I'll say it again, it all starts with the students. If you can solve the student issue, the rest will come along nicely. The community comes to our games as much for the college atmosphere as it does to see the game. Anything you can do to enhance that college/community connection is helpful. If you don't have the first half of that, you will lose ground. :coffee:

Say what you will, but reNO was the last straw for me. Yes, the lackluster home schedule was another piece but I'm used to that. What I've had in the past is the hope for an exciting finale to the season if Weber or another relatively close school hosts. Combine the home schedule with reNO and I just won't pay for it anymore. I'm a twenty-something year season ticket holder until this last straw. I enjoy student attendance and the atmosphere it can help create but, again, hit-and-miss student attendance has always existed and is not related to the loss of this season ticket holder or 3 others I know.
