Roos Field Renovation

OK, well I hope the students enjoy 5-6 seasons and high school stadiums bc that's what there gonna be lookin at.. Screw the students! EWU needs to do whatever it takes to get this thing built.. aside from the football program.. EWU doesn't deserve a great team, they don't deserve that national championship bc they (EWU) did nothing to help get it. This thing wont get built. You can forget it... EWU doesn't believe it needs to do anything bc Paul & Beau have MADE MIRACLES with one of the worst stadiums, budget & school locations in the sky.

See, here's my bit... it needs to be done... plain and simple.

Eastern just spent $4m on the planning phase, which basically is just a set of blueprints and marketing strategy. Why?

I don't see having a $60m facility as being necessary; hell, $10m would probably get us a really nice upgrade. Having it done incrementally or in a smaller scale is infinitely better than not having it done at all.

And, I'll say this again, Eastern managed to spend $22m on a hockey arena despite not even having an intercollegiate hockey team. You simply can't tell me that large reservoirs of money can't be tapped if need be.

Great attitude FALKIN. Puff on my friend.

Screw the students, but the students should help foot the bill for a 60-70 million dollar football facility? Boy, you really know how to get things accomplished! Don't be ignorant.

As I said before, as a student, i'd be will to pay more to help pay for a Gateway Project, but i'm definitely in the minority on that...not to mention, as said before, we're not talking about a whole lot of money that the students would contribute anyway.

You might be accurate in some of your comments about what EWU administration deserves, but don't blame the students. They've been the most supportive part of the fan base for a while now. Many games attendance are made up of half students. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at the nearly 40,000 EWU alums that reside in Spokane and never show up for games, or donate for the cause. Or the ones who'd rather drive down to Pullman and watch the loser Cougs, or go sit through a Gonzaga basketball game and act like they've been a fan for decades, or even the lame ducks that don't wanna make the dreaded 20 minute drive to Cheney and sit through a little cold weather! Get off the students back, those are the ones that will be the alumni base in just a few years and be willing to fork out some money, myself included.

I hope Black is talking a little tongue and cheek, otherwise that is just an ignorant attitude. The university exists to serve students; any other attitude then that is way off.

I agree that the wins have come inspite minimal budgets and game day facilities, but I would argue that both of our last two presidents have placed importance on EWU athletics. The entire culture of the university has changed and it has been positive for athletics.

I agree that waiting until we have $60 million in hand to do everything might take a while and we should work toward that in phases as apposed to all or nothing.

I think everybody agrees that it would be a huge improvement to the stadium and a significant addition to the campus. However, 45-60 million for a facility that hosts 5 games a year is a tough sell. Convincing retailers that they want to rent space a long way from the downtown core is also a big gamble and one that has proven difficult in previous campus projects. Brewster Hall was promised to bridge the gap between Cheney and Eastern by offering retail space near the downtown core and bring students to the area. They simply can't rent the retail space and the flood of students to the downtown core didn't occur.

I agree with what others have posted. A multi phase project that can build upon the previous step might be the direction to go. Phase 1, get rid of the high school bleacher look and bring nice stands that expand the seating capacity of the stadium. Build momentum and then go for stage 2- the addition of more suites above the new bleachers, etc. If you design it with expansion in mind then everything that the Gateway Project is promising can be done but in more realistic chunks.

Ok so where is the state funding? Didn't UW and WSU both get help from the state for thier stadium projects?

Ignorant? We'll see whos ignorant when you're still looking at Junior varsity HS bleachers in 2018. That school cares little about EWU fb. Tell me what EWU has done for EWU FB in the last 10 years? The national championship was the maximum amount of momentum that could have been realistically generated by the FB team itself, and EWU's reward to the program was what? Yea, I thought so. Btw whats the name of EWU's FB stadium?? Yea, I thought so. How many recruits are lost by the east side? How many fans are lost bc of the east side?? Or the track?? Everyone hates The Griz, but deep down we all know THEY (UM) invest in their FB program and it pays dividends. Ignorant!? Ill check back in 2018 and we'll see what's sitting on the east side of Roos Field.

As far as I know, they're proceeding as if they're going to build it. Ok, so it may not happen tomorrow.

We all knew that.

I would say advising EWU to "screw the students" is about as ignorant of a statement as I have heard in a while.

I know these improvements and investments need to be made and will ultimately benifit the students, but it can't be undertaken with the attitude of "screw the students." The students are your commodity and customers, any organization that wants to screw that group will be out of business pretty quick.

I'm just glad some students give a rip about the football program. That's a sea change from as little as 4 years ago.

i would like to see the original design built but would be just fine with incremental or staged upgrades. anything to get rid of that eyesoar on the east side.

Both UW and WSU used their own funds that included donations for their new facilities.

Time to pony up people. Plain and simple.

Don't expect someone else to pay for it. This isn't Obamacare. Take some responsibility. There will come a day with Baldwin will leave for a FBS school. EWU needs to have the facilities in the place so the next coach can keep it rolling.

I agree with your sentiment but... the Big Sky does not have a multi-bizillion revenue stream to distribute to their member.
We need leaders in the administration to step up and I am sure there will be plenty of fans to step up as well.

Ya, nobody has called me asking for money, i'd gladly send in a check for 500-1000 if i knew this was getting built.
