So Abilene Christian is building an on-campus stadium for 2017. This is from the article:

Thanks to a generous lead gift from alumni April and Mark Anthony and other fundraising efforts, more than $20 million has been committed toward construction of the new Wildcat Stadium. In addition, an anonymous donor has pledged $5 million to match any new gifts to the stadium made by Dec. 31, 2015.

"These matching funds give us tremendous momentum as we push toward the completion of our fundraising efforts," De León said. "Many generous donors have already stepped up with significant contributions, but we are still in need of additional help to hit our goal."

This is the rendering of the new stadium.

2015 was my first year of season tickets. I couldnt belive how much the campus and student body has changed- Both were unbeliveable. Looking forward to next year.

I was at Pres. pre basketball gathering on Sat. and talked to several administration people about the stadium project. They were not volunteering a lot of information. What I did get was that it is very unlikely the big project will get done. It appears they have been working on a less expensive project and may be able to announce the project in the spring. This is just me reading between the lines in the 10 to 15 minutes of conversations I had. I asked if they were planning on announcing at the spring scrimmage and from the body language I got, I do not thing they are firm enough on the project to commit. So I guess I am saying They are efforting but we are still without a viable project.

It was great fun, but very hard work. I thought I would help out with all the students gone for the holiday.

Now I can put a face to a name (screen name). I was looking down and noticed this middle-aged man with a fuzzy hair hat gyrating like a student. I was envious :thumb:

Golden Eagle,
If I am not mistaking, that is "RonTheWiseOldEagle", he even has a "Done Lap Disease" that is when our stomachs done lapped over our belts. He enjoyed having fun with the Students at the game. He came back to his seat at half time, he looked like he was out of breath. He is my Buddy. Vic Wallace

I would take a watered down version of the Gateway in a heartbeat. It seems as if they are settled on the idea of removing the track (thank God). I think when its all said and done, by 2020 Roos Field will have no track and an expanded visitors side thats the side of the home side, but built like the non-scoreboard end zone seating. When you look at Montana State and the expansion they just completed, it make Roos look like CRAP. Ive refrained from going back to homecoming games etc with family bc that stadium is downright embarrassing. I want this to get done while Baldwin is there, If it happens I think attendance will be up, and Beau's paycheck will be up as well. :fingers crossed:

So when you do go to a football game is it to see the stadium, not the see team play? If you go to a concert is it to witness the beautiful venue or see and hear the performance?
I am all for the Gateway or some sort of improvement and willing to pay my share for that, but I would like to see something that we can grow with. Dropping the field and placing bleachers in that space would be the first step.
But as of now I am tired of talking about it. If it never happens I will still go to every game.

clawman,
Very well said, I go to see our team perform, and I am pleased with what they have done. I have given up on Gateway Project" however, should it come I will be the first to attend as long as these bones let me continue.
I am surprised someone haven't gone on "GoFundEWU", maybe we could get some donations if they let us. How appropriate will that be? Vic Wallace

A watered down expansion of Roos Field is perfectly fine with me. Track or no track, I'll survive. Something, ANYTHING, needs to be done to rectify that East side of the stadium. I'm not being picky, just put something together that adds capacity and improves the overall aesthetic.

To All,
Couldn't believe the amount of Players showed for the above. 55 Players, about 4 others that walked on, a RB, and three others. Also two Additional Players will be reporting on Monday, see if they are good enough. One a Wide Receiver from Lacey, last name of Chism. LB Alex Vidiven (Last could be spelled, he is 232lbs, from Central, Looks pretty solid. He did play at Central last year, he wanted to come here and play. QB Andrew Zimmerman is throwing the ball good, and is looking very strong. Rilley Hennessey stated he (Andrew Z) is looking very good. Believe it or not, I did stay out in the cold bad knees and all, talking with Andrew Zimmer Dad, and the two walk-ons coming on Monday. Cold like two (muthers) ;) ;) ;). One RB is from Alaska. When/Where did you hear that they are "settled on the idea of removing the track?" That would be amazing. I want to be closer to the field and I think all of the fans would find it even more exciting to be able to hear every crushing blow we deliver. There's something to be said about being right on top of the action. I sit in the end zone quite a bit and I LOVE when the ball is down on the 5 yard line. It's a cool experience.

go eags!

I would think removal of the track would be an expensive proposition. If cost is an issue (and it is), you'd think this would be one of the first things to scratch.

Granted, we'd all love a football-only facility, but think about what it would entail: Removing the track would be relatively cheap, but then you'd have to reset the whole field. That may require additional grading and creation of new drainage. When installing new fields, the prep is the bulk of the cost; the turf itself is not too terribly expensive. You'd also have to move the North side grandstand-- I don't know if that would require deconstructing or if it could be moved as a single unit. Then you'd have to build another track at another site. There is plenty of land to do this, but it, too, would require additional grading.

My guess--- purely a guess-- is you'd be into the project about $2mm just for the eliminating the track, repositioning the field, and building a new track.

For me the number one priority should be to get a 5 or 6 thousand seat permanent grandstand on the east side, not more temporary seating like the north end.

Long term, the idea of removing the track, before building permanent seating, is the best. We can move the current seating easily. Once the track is done, then you would be building permanent seating in the correct location and not have to do something crazy like sink the field to get the stands closer. Ask Boise State. They removed their track, but were unable to really get the seating closer because the permanent seating was already in place and the water table prohibited sinking the field.

Totally, 100% disagree. Getting viable seating on the East side should be priority #1. Obviously, doing both would be ideal... but getting a legitimate East grandstand is the most critical issue. From what I understand, lowering the field is an option. Again, a very expensive option, but something that is feasible.
