Roos Field Renovation

FWIW, I have not been to a game in 2 years or so since I am tired of sitting on COLD METAL bleachers or by the goal post fearing of being hit by a flying ball. I have lived in Cheney over 30 years. The last game I attended was a playoff game and I was stuck on the top metal bleacher row in freezing weather with the breeze cutting through layers of clothing. We all left at half time. I will not be back until better accommodations are in place, therefore, probably never. I went with 4 other long term residents of this town and none of us have returned. I am sure, if they build it, we would once again be there but in the meantime, the radio is better than those horrid metal bleachers.

^ Grizz troll.

That's a great call, FE!

It's a solid troll as it almost has a shread of believability. I've been to cold weather games at Martin Stadium, WGS, and Albi, and just like Roos, they're cold. Shocker!!!

We live in the PNW and there's an old Norse saying that there's no such thing as bad weather...there's only bad clothing.

Pathetic that Griz fans are this insecure.... :ohno:

Damn! I feel awful I fell for the troll. Great effort, though. I think it's great we're all together in our desire to see our facilities improve. I know I give all I can (and probably more than I should). That will never change.

I believe him...**On the early games those sumbitches are hot as sun beats down that side and microwaves you from the inside out. But that will OK as they will be serving ice-cold Mountain Dew/Dorito Smoothies on that side for VIP's.

Looking forward to a cold home-field playoff run.
No kidding! There's nothing like COLD outdoor football. I feel like a COLD climate is what football is suppose to be played in. The pregame chili or brats just taste better. Not a huge Packers or Bears fan, but I love watching a playoff game in December at Soldier Field & Lambo. "See-Your-Breath" football is the best football. :troll: Gimme some SNOW!!! Cheney gets cold and that's one of the reasons why I love it! Please don't put a dome on top of us when we finally build this thing.

go eags!

As an alumni I am very proud on how far the football team has come, not to mention EWU as a whole. I feel like the two prior EWU presidents knew how get things done so that EWU could grow as a university and had the forward thinking to give EWU a thriving athletic department as well.( This president doesn't appear to have the knowledge or maybe the desire to get EWU to the next level on either spectrum. She left SOU in turmoil and the staff at SOU didn't have faith in her. This was a red flag but EWU still hired her)

EWU should not be taking baby steps towards a new stadium. When I see the field I am embarrassed for my alma mater. The football staff has done excellent despite having mediocore facilities within the football program. Can you imagine the recruits we would have not lost on if we had great facilities within the big sky conference. Someone mentioned earlier that Beau Baldwin might not be around forever and opportunities only come around so often. We have a great coach here and we have to capitalize while we can.

I'm skeptical of our new president as well. Getting pushed out of an old job is usually a huge red flag. I guess we'll find out pretty soon if she was a good hire or not.

Well color me a glass is half full type of guy, but I'm far from "embarrassed" when I see the Inferno. I get flooded with great memories and excited for football.

I've been watching games there since the early 70's and I'm in most ways grateful for how far it's come along. For some of you youngsters and those with short memories, here's what it looked like just a few years ago...

That's Matt Nichols scrambling for a first down against the Griz in 2008.

Since then we've added red turf, a kick ass video and audio system which provides sight relief for the south end zone and great atmosphere, improved concessions, a gear shop, and new parking lot.

Is that enough? Hell no. Believe me, no one wants to see a renovation more than I do. And yes, that will certainly help with recruiting. But embarrassed isn't the word I'd use.

I agree things have come a long way in the last ten years and they are all good changes, but we need to keep moving forward.

MLEagle,
Thank you very much for your reply. I have been following this team since 1974, and I love the progress we have made. I remember the little area for announcing the games, looked like a "High Hurdle Storage Area" with the help of Scott Barnes, we got the present Suites. I just hope we can hurry and really get something more presentable to the University, our Students/Faculty, Die Hard Eagle Fans. We have been waiting long enough. FYI the Water Tank is now ready for viewing. They were taking down the things from around it, color is still white with the Red Eagle. When we played these games we used to call them the "Mud Bowls. Have a great Weekend. Vic Wallace

My first Eagle game was my freshman year in high school in 1989 when my football coach, Rod Fletcher, had free tickets that he gave out. I remember having a good time but there was zero energy and it felt like watching a high school game. I went to almost every home game through college before there was a student section and no one cheered. My dad came to most of the games with me and my older brother because it was good football and cost almost nothing.

The first EWU game that I remember feeling like a college environment was an epic win against U of I at Joe Albi in 1997. Since 1995 I have attended almost every home game minus a year living out of state and a couple years where I didn't get season tickets and just bought tickets at the gate when I could make it. Back then Eastern fans didn't even know how to cheer, and there wasn't a tailgate party to be found.

I love the atmosphere at Roos now and love attending games with my son and dad. The stadium has energy, excitement, atmosphere and is a great homefield advantage. I can't wait for the day when we get the east side done and have 15,000+ packing the stadium.

I wouldn't use the word embarrassed either. When I travel I ALWAYS wear Eagle gear and often I'm asked if that is the team that plays on red turf. Never has anyone commented "is that the place with the metal bleachers"!
On a more serious note, ours is the worst football facility in the Big Sky.

Northern Colorado is no better than Roos, and probably worse. Same with Southern Utah- or so it would look on TV as I've never actually been there. It's been a loooong time since I've been to Pocatello, but I remember the MiniDome was a terrible dump... Made the Kibbie Dome look like Shangri-La.

Been to all of those mentioned and Pocy would be closest to the bottom but I think EWU still holds that spot. No Col is actually a pretty decent facility. I'd put it ahead of the NAU Walkup Skydome. Southern Utah press box side much nicer than EWU.
But... when it come to the game day environment the Eagles are on par with Montana, or Mt State, maybe a smaller scale but much better environment than a lot of others with nicer facilities. As with everything else it is about the people not the bricks and mortar.
I heard the Houston AD speaking on the radio yesterday. They just had a big push to sell season tickets for their new 70k seat stadium, improved from 12k to 22k season tickets. Pretty weak!

To All,
I don't care what "Roos Field" looked like. I enjoy the crowds and all that attend. Maybe one day we will have nicer Facilities. we learn to crawl before we walk, so maybe we are still in the crawling age. Regardless, I will continue to attend the games as long as this old bod performs.:) Take care. Vic Wallace

To All,
Went out this PM and saw some of the Conditioning that went on. All the Players that missed 4 practices, wishes they didn't. Their Asses were dragging when Coach got finished with them. Met some Recruits today, Conor McKenna, DB, GP, Cailin Criner, DB, Boise, Id, Jason Tally, RB, Oregon (Jordan younger Brother) Keith Moore, DL, Bremerton, WA. Some other Recruits were there at practice, couldn't get close to them, these knees are not what they used to be, so stands around as much as possible. New FB Roster out as of Aug. 7, 16. #73 Kaleb Levoa is now on the OL, I heard that today. What I saw of the conditioning, they are all ready for the long season. We Lost Jalani Phelps, WR, he left the team. to many injuries. Have a great day. Vic Wallace

To All,
Your Football tickets will be at Northern Quest Aug. 18th, 16, for pick up. Will be in the room behind the Epic Area. Will be at 5:30 p.m. Coach B. will also speak at that time. No reservation, first come first served. Go on Eagles Athletic Site, you can see what will be going on that P.M. Vic Wallace
