Roos Field Renovation

"Something BIG is being unleashed next Wednesday... You don't want to miss it."

It seems every year they say this, then people get their hopes up for a stadium renovation announcement, but then they just reveal some new variance of the uniform. Regardless, I'm excited to hear what they have to announce and will have my fingers crossed for something said about the stadium. Doubtful, but hope so... Love the anticipation, regardless!

FormerEag thanks for donation! So glad ground breaking is now on its way! I take back all thatI said about Chaves not getting the job done! Can't wait for next Wensday for the big announcement!

Haha I don't think I can even afford a frame for that AMAZING new poster.

For what it's worth, I think these guys are feeling the pressure to do something. The unfortunate thing is that we don't have any one person to throw down a multi-million $$$ donation to start moving dirt. Once that happens, I think a flood of smaller donations would naturally follow. Even if I had enough money to contemplate a single 6-figure donation, I would be extremely apprehensive to give it up without complete assurances that the project was going to happen within a set timeline. And until a big money donor steps up with multiple millions, getting the $100k type of donations is going to be very difficult.

Also, after letting this sink in, I *really* feel the stadium ought to be where it is now. Moving a quarter-mile up Betz Road seems totally foolish. At the very least, I'd like to see some bigger grandstands erector-set style put onto the Eastside. Keep the track. No additional costs...

At this point, I think the best case scenario would be something like what Portland State got added a Providence Park. My guess it that's about 5k seats with a club level, so it has a good number of "premium" seating options. I'd suppose this is probably the long-term goal for Roos Field. I'd have to think that could be built substantially cheaper than a complete rebuild of a stadium.

I have made trips out to EWU all this week, I haven't seen or heard anything significant. They are about to complete the underground work with Pipes. The Lights in lot 12 (FB Lot) are completed, they are LED Lights. They was taking down the last old light today in lot 12. If there are something in the wind, I would really appreciate it, but will believe it when it comes. Have been disappointed to many times. will wait and see. Last FB Camp was held today, for younger High School Students. Team should be going home today and returning Aug 7 & 8th. Have a Great Summer. Vic Wallace

Agreed. They should also get rid of the track once and for all. why not. Coastal can expand. South Dakota can build anew. Prairie view can build anew! Montana state can put up an excellent end zone section that totally changes the dynamic of that stadium.. EWU just doesn't give a crap. It's irritating. EWU earned a national title for crying out loud. #GetSomethingBuilt

110% agree with this. Its starting to feel like EWU and the president do not give a sh*t. This is getting VERY old. UPDATE THE F'ing stadium already, or AT THE VERY MINIMUM install new bleachers on the Visitor's side. Especially since that side is shown on ALl TV games. Its a damn embarrassing look for us Alum's. Try watching a game in a bar in Seattle, and having people ask you "What the hell is up with your stadium? It looks smaller than my high school!"

It will be interesting to see where the project ends up...it has to be done, everyone knows it. If we had the one or two big donors that we need it would be moving forward, but thats the problem, we don't have the big donors or the big money coming in to jump start this so it looks like we aren't moving forward.

I do believe they are working behind the scenes to move this forward and there is probably a lot of information we don't know about, at least i hope so, but the fact this is taking so long is pretty disappointing as something needs to be done.

My worry is that we missed our time to capitalize...EWU football was at an all time high with participation and involvement the past 5 years and we basically did nothing to capitalize on it. Last year we missed the playoffs and this year our schedule is a nightmare and may hurt us again. Putting a string of sub par seasons together will hurt any progress we made between 2010 - 2014. We will lose the best player we've every had after this year and Baldwin isn't going to be here forever, I'd give him 2-3 years. I know he loves it here and I hope he stays but the $$$ will come one of these days and it will be hard to turn down.

It would be nice to get some positive information on the stadium project, whatever that may mean...

This is what I don’t understand. Why not be more forthright with information about the plans to improve Roos Field. Even if the current concept is a far scaled down version of the grandiose Gateway project, why not inform the interested alumni of the plans. Without transparency the topic only lends itself to speculation.

To All,
I am happy to hear some others are concerned about the GWP, and nothing being done. I have been waiting for something since 2010, and still waiting. I have given up on anything happening, if something should come, I will gladly accept all that gets done. I am at an age now, I don't think I will be around if it nothing is not done soon. I just hope something could get done for all, we have some outstanding Men and Women in this program, and they deserve they GWP. Good luck to all, and here is hoping something get done soon. "GOOD LUCK. Vic Wallace

To All,
I made my regular trip to Campus today, and it is like a Morgue. Only thing moving that I saw was the workers replacing the water Pipes. I did find someone that knows what is going on in Athletics. I know most of you have been concerned why Coach Graham Son went to Idaho. I was told his son wanted to come here, but Idaho had more to offer. I don't blame the young man. We will see him in 2018 I think, Idaho will be in the Big Sky. Welcome Vandals, and your FANS. Vic Wallace

Well, the way I look at it is that each year we wait for something to happen, we are missing out on additional revenue coming in. I pretty confident we could easily sell 15,000 to 16,000 tickets for the North Dakota St. game in two years if we had the seating. That's roughly 5,000 more people than we can hold now. At $20 per ticket, that means we are missing out on $100,000 in potential revenue for that game alone (not to mention the concessions). Or sell the tickets for $30 per ticket and it will still sell out. That's $150,000. You get my point. I could also see potential huge crowds with Idaho returning to the league in a couple of years. I don't care if it means more Idaho/Montana fans attend the games in Cheney, it's much needed revenue for our athletic department. Every year we wait, materials are going to get that much more expensive, and we are going to continue to miss out on potential $$$. It will be a shame if nothing gets done and we miss out on the additional butts in the seats.

go eags!

Totally agree Rafter. The University must have done the analysis that would estimate the scale (cost) of improvements versus the attendance over time required to pay off the cost of improvements. I would like to see the analysis and decision tree (if any) the administration are following.

Honest question. Michael Roos donated $500,000 to have the red carpet installed. Looking back, would you rather have had his $500,000 go towards kick starting the Gateway Project, or are you satisfied with the red turf? I know $500,000 isn't much in comparison to the total cost of the project, but it would have at least got something started.
