Roos Field Renovation

Hey thanks for the welcomes!
Just wondered if anyone had heard anything since the last posts of March. I guess it is a dead topic for the administration. I think they like the speculation of a new field out in the farmland as it takes it off their plates and is a long way off. Trying to attempt improvements with what they already have would take some strategic planning and committment on their part, hence they don't like it  Yep, just not a priority. :ohno:

Has anyone ever tried to start a gofundme.com campaign? Would be an easy way for alumni, parents of players and fans to show support. Obviously a gofundme.com campaign will not fund the entire renovation but it would show administrators that EWU football fans want improvements done.

Well....we just had 2 guys drafted in the first four rounds of the NFL draft. There were Pac 12 schools that didn't have that happen. It makes me wonder how many guys would get drafted from Eastern YEAR-AFTER-YEAR if we built a new stadium.

Great article Jim. Glad the pic of visitor bleachers was included to help emphasize exactly what needs to be done..YESTERDAY! Pretty simple really. I wish/hope President Mary Cullinan realizes potential students look at this when checking EWU out to further their academic goals as this reflects on the entire campus as a substandard reflection on the university as a whole.

Responding to an inquiry from The Spokesman-Review, EWU President Mary Cullinan said in a statement this week that the university has hired an outside consultant “to assess the university’s fundraising capacity and help plan a comprehensive campaign that will include fundraising for the university’s athletics facilities.”

Someone please tell me if this is something to get excited about..for real. Feels like a time consuming bait and switch pacifying vehicle thingamajigger.

This is great news for Eagles; no doubt the result of the very successful Eagle Football program, comments made in this forum, and editorials in the Spokesman Review. The study would not have been initiated without the persistence of Athletic Director Bill Chaves and support of President Mary Cullinan. I trust that this beginning momentum will only increase. Lets watch for opportunities to further support the needed expansion of the facilities and program. Go Eags!

WOW, after 5 years we are spending 125,000. to get started!!

I am very happy something is happening. Too bad Cullinan needs to blow 125k to cover her a&&. Anyone on this board could tell you it will be a boom for the University.

I don't mind the whole $125,000 thing as long as it leads to something getting done. It's only going to make things worse if we spend that kind of money and nothing comes out of it. BUILD IT....AND THEY WILL COME  . "THEY" meaning even more fans and the recruits that are on the fence.

go eags!

Why the hell was this not done 6 years ago? How much was wasted on designing the Gateway Project only to throw it in the garbage? At this point, this needs to be fast-tracked such that construction begins immediately after the season. I fear this is just throwing a few dimes out to,temporarily keep the vultures from circling. I'm joining the Vic mindset, "I'll believe it when I see it." I've seen the university dick around on this subject of far too long.

I hate to be a pessimist, but I don't think this is going to get us any closer to facilities upgrades. Sounds like a way to blow smoke. Hope I'm wrong...

I'm with ya. Hopefully something comes of this even if it is more modest than we'd like.

I think there's a good chance you're correct unfortunately. Words are cheap :coffee: . Show me with your actions. I'll get excited when the shovel hits the ground.

Thanks for sharing the article. Throw us something, even if it's bread crumbs. Wait, why do they need to interview 30 people for four months?! Time is of the essence. Build that wall! I mean Bleachers. :wall:

I want the high school bleachers gone yesterday. Build something we can be proud of. I can't think of a better way to get alumni that have disconnected a bit from the University to come back out to Cheney. Every eag alum should have something to be proud when they come visit Cheney. I hope we don't settle for some mediocre structure if they decide to act. In all honesty, I don't think we need more seats because people are struggling to find tickets. So....please don't tell me we need just any structure than increases our capacity. I know it looks better on TV but is that our goal....to have more seats on the visitors side with no bodies in them? The goal should be to build the most state-of-the-art stadium that we can afford. That's what's going to create the buzz that's going to peak people's interests and make them want to be a part of SOMETHING BIG. That's what will make people want to spend their hard earned cash on season tickets. Building just "some structure" ain't gonna do that. Let's build a long-term solution that alum will be proud of.

Because if you interviewed 30 people in one week how could you justify 124k??

I imagine the purpose of conducting interviews is not to collect opinions, but to gauge promises of financial support and match that revenue with other sources of funding to cover the expense of constructing a facility with phases matched to planned student growth and expected ticket receipts. New or improved training facilities, additional parking and scholarships are also significant expenses. I'm new to this blog and appreciate all the information regarding players, other teams, program history and football opinions you share, but coveting other stadiums, and bitching do not impress the university staff, or potential contributors where the actual decisions and commitments are made.

The article says... plan a comprehensive campaign that will include fundraising for the university’s athletics facilities. So this move is for more than football...football wasn't mentioned specifically. Guess we'll see what the priorities are for $125,000.
