Roos Field Renovation

They should auction off small chunks of the original Inferno once it is retired. Maybe in square foot chunks. I know I would buy one. At $50 to $100 per chunk it could help start to pay for the new turf. Let's keep the creative thinking going......

go eags!

There used to be a bar in Boise called Suds that had the 20 yard line going right through the middle of the bar. Showies...i mean "EAGLES PUB" would look very nice with a similar setup. :)

Let's do the math. If we just sold End Zone to End Zone, that would be 53 and one-third yards by 100 yards.....or...160 feet by 300 feet. That makes 48,000 square feet of RED INFERNO with some white stripes mixed in there. If we sold each square foot for $25 bucks a pop....that would be $1,200,000. That would be more than enough to purchase a new Inferno and maybe even leave a little left over for the football program, or general athletic fund. Hopefully that could free-up an extra 1.2 million that could be put towards a new stadium. Am I crazy for thinking we could pull this off? I'd probably buy a nice chunk of it for our tailgate spot and I can see many others doing the same.

More $ for pieces with lines, Even more for goal lines, minimum bid of $1k bid for segments with numbers or letters? $$$ for a great program!

I started off thinking $50 to $100 per square foot. That's probably not realistic now that I think about it. $25 might even be too much to ask, but maybe not. Even if it was only $10 per square foot that would still generate $480,000 which could probably pay for most of the new turf. I like the idea of paying more for the high-demand pieces. It would be cool seeing a huge piece of red carpet up in the tailgate lot that had the "50" yard line on it. I bet someone would be willing to pay some pretty big money to have the whole EAGLE in the center of the field. Maybe Northern Quest could figure out a way to hang it up out at Epic. They might give us a nice chunk of $$$ for it. I could really care less how much we sell each piece for. I just don't want to see any potential funds go to waste. The whole point of me brining this "selling turf" idea up is so we can put more money towards a BRAND NEW STATE OF THE ART STADIUM and win MULTIPLE NATIONAL CHAMIOPIONSHIPs in the next 10 years.

I thought this was great!

Question: so who's the person that could/would say "Go!" to get this renovation & expansion done? Is it one person or is it a board of trustees ?

I don't think supply and demand will dictate pricing for something like this. Paying for turf is essentially a donation. There is no chance you're going to sell anywhere near 48k units. Might as well charge $50-100, because demand will top out around 2,000 buyers. I think because we, the people on this board, agree that we'd buy, it doesn't mean too many others would. This board is made up of some of the most passionate fans and not reflective of the casual fan.

Agree with you regarding less enthusiastic market but who knows? How much would any of give for an autographed piece with a "10" on it? Thinking that one of the three should be displayed in Showalter or the athletic department area. (Don't list me as a potential bidder though.)

Found this on the Board of Trustees.

Board of Trustees’
2016 Annual Planning Retreat and Meeting July 28 – 29, 2016
MINUTES
Stadium Project Presentation. Vice Presidents Mary Voves and Mike Westfall and Athletic Director Bill Chaves shared a presentation on the Stadium Project that would include new track and soccer facilities, a new football field with expanded sidelines, increased capacity to 15,000, improved donor suites, and expanded concessions and services. The project is estimated to cost $25 million.

If this happened 8 mos ago, I think it's safe to say the presentation didn't go well....

Agreed. The Pub is the University's focus.

There is a lot of misunderstanding of the various campus projects and money being spent. First of all, the PUB is being funded by the students. EWU is not paying for it.

Next up, you can't use state dollars for non educational facilities. This why the URC, PUB etc. are funded by the students. The stadium will fall into the same category, thus the need for private donors.

There is no magic pool of money that the Administration is sitting on and choosing to spend on other things. Every dollar for facilities and operations is taxpayer funded for EDUCATIONAL purposes. Anything that doesn't meet that criteria is on the institution to raise for themselves.

I want the stadium built as much as the rest of you, but you have to understand two things. 1.) The University won't be pitching in money for it unless there is some kind of educational connection and 2.) Until enough big $$ donors are found to make the project financially feasible, the stadium isn't going anywhere.

I'm not disagreeing with how you lay out the financials, what I think frustrates many on this board is that the stadium upgrades don't seem to be a priority at the highest levels of the university.

If this were a real priority then progress would be made.

Hi- I'm new to the boards here. I see there hasn't been much discussion on this topic and it appears to be just as stagnant as the football renovation idea.
My husband and I are both 1991 alums. We just got back from visiting EWU with our son who is looking at colleges and very interested. We live on the west side, but he likes eastern washington and loves to follow football, has played all his life, although he will be a "fan" in college. Western doesn't have football- so he is heading east. We were just there to see the inferno this week. My first impression was the lopsided stands. Why the heck haven't they expanded that? Also, there is plenty of ample seating room on the corners. If they develpoped that, they would have a nice bowl shaped arena.
I think they should do what they can ASAP even before this fall to increase seating. What are they waiting for? Why was an ice rink put in anyway?? They need to make Roos appear like the competitive football field and team that it is. Montana is laughing. Go Eags!
Does anyone here have any further info on this hold up? I've read so much from 2010 on that I can't believe here we sit. I'm a EWU mama who is anxious for upcoming seasons.

Yeah, join the club. You have the same concerns everyone else shares. All I can say is that, for whatever reason, the university doesn't see it as a priority. Lip service to the topic has been never ending, but absolutely nothing has actually been done. I wish I could tell you more... But there's nothing more to tell!
