Roos Field Renovation

First of all, THANK YOU JIM. Second of all, and somebody just said it: it's about LONG TERM revenue. I feel like we have too many short-term thinkers heading this project up. It's an INVESTMENT in our school. INVESTMENT, INVESTMENT, INVESTMENT!!! Yes it's expensive--but it WILL PAY OFF in the LONG RUN. Let's get over it and start thinking long term. Creative thinkers get things done but I'm not convinced that there's much creative thinking happening right now. That concerns me.

I've said it on this thread before and I'll say it again. The GU basketball program is the model. The GU hoops team got hot in the late 90's and the early 2,000's, and the school JUMPED ALL OVER THE OPPORTUNITY and built a new arena AT THE RIGHT TIME---While the team was hot. This in turn helped the team to STAY HOT leading up to the present. Their new arena also helped create even more of a buzz in the community and helped create even more awareness for the GU brand. Building a new stadium WILL HELP MAKE PEOPLE CARE MORE about the EWU brand. Chaves seems to be thinking that same way in the article and I like it. Now we need ACTION. Materials aren't getting any cheaper either.

go eags!

Fall 2016: The university approves the $30 million renovation of the Pence Union Building, which incorporates some of the amenities in the Gateway Project proposal. The $30 million project will be financed with 30-year revenue bonds, to be paid by a mandatory student service and activity fee.

There is the new "Eagle stadium " right there! :x

Rafter _ Reese,
I apologize. I mentioned in my post, no one had not posted the information reference the Thirty Million towards the monies going for the Student Expansion. I know we are here for the Students, however it seems as if no one cares bout the Athletic Program. We get more BS than what we get for our Program. You know it is really getting to me, the way the program is treated. Now will sit around and see what comes. Vic Wallace

The students are paying for that project. With all the buzz about the stadium expansion there has to be somebody saying NO ??? Who is the gate keeper that is stalling ?????

It could actually be the student counsel.....anyone read the Easterner lately? I haven't just curious.

May have missed this article being posted but great article by the Easterner regarding funding of athletics and schools.

Nice to see we only went over a little..unlike some other schools in our state

I actually think the GoFundMe idea was a really good one.. Encourage making donations public.

Doesn't EWU have any major benefactors?

I'm actually starting to warm up to this idea. It might be the only way something gets built.

More important now then ever that we get stadium upgrades done to keep the program moving in the right direction.

The new coaching staff really needs the support that improvements to Roos can bring.

I can almost guarantee, they're waiting until the field turf needs replacement before moving on a stadium renovation. I heard Chaves say on 700 ESPN last week the turf has 2-4 more years of life left (which I think is a stretch based on its condition last season). Its now had 8 full years, with a lot of extra playoff games played on it.

They should auction off small chunks of the original Inferno once it is retired. Maybe in square foot chunks. I know I would buy one. At $50 to $100 per chunk it could help start to pay for the new turf. Let's keep the creative thinking going......

Now you're thinking! I would definitely buy a chunk and use it as carpet for our tailgate.

Talk about the tail waggin the dog!

I highly doubt that the reason the renovation has not moved forward is because they are waiting for the turf to wear out.

I wish the university would disclose more information as to who's been approached. It seems like the most likely alternative to get the money needed in the amounts needed would be through corporate sponsorship. Since it probably doesn't make sense for a national corporation to buy naming rights, one would think it would have to be a regional outfit. Northern Quest seems to be swimming in money after announcing yet another expansion, and would be a good fit since many fans (both home and away) stay on their property during game weekends. I'm sure there are others, but not more than a small handful.

South Dakota's new stadium was funded by two local bizillionaires, one in credit cards and health care and the other in banking.
Is it the job of Mike Westfall, pres. of the foundation, to find connections that might kick start the project?
Could the business of Northern Quest, gambling, be a problem as it pertains to naming rights on a University facility?

Northern Quest is already a major sponsor of Eastern athletics. Plus, they are a perfectly legitimate business. I'd see no problems whatsoever.

I am not saying it's not moved forward because of that...but I bet it's playing a role now that they can't seem to get anything done.
