Roos Field Renovation

Vic, I did sort of meet you once. Last April I was touring my son who was a junior in HS at the time. You were hanging out at the field for one of the first practices of the year. You were chatting with Samson Ebukam, of all people. You introduced us and at the time he was being scouted by several teams. Little did we know we met a superstar right then and there. Anyway, I was from Everett and I mentioned a new recruit from Everett. One was Gurley, of course and the other Anthany Smith who red shirted. We will see a lot more of his talent this year. I love that you watch practices and games and rep EWU in your red truck. Okay, I just wanted to say that we met before, informally.

As for the other idea about forcing the adminisration by advertising plans for bleacher renovation, I think it's great. It's a yes from me.

Oh and Thank you for your service to our country. Also, I am sorry about the loss of your spouse. I'm glad that EWU could fill some of that void in your life. Go Eags!

Vic is our SUPERFAN! He genuinely cares about the University through thick and thin and the students. Vic and his daughter Chrissy are VERY impressive people

What about the bleacher system at the Spokane Fair Grounds ? It has lasted a long time still looks good has room at top for press and open room systems at the lower area.

Any pictures?

Don't know how familiar people are with this project, but 1904 San Diego FC is building an all-modular 10,000 seat stadium for $15mm. There aren't a lot of artist renderings out there, but the ones that are out there make it look pretty sweet- it has terraces and a cover. Modular bleachers have come a long way. Considering we only need 6,000 or so seats, it would seem like we could get well under that price tag. This is especially true using Eastern Washington costs instead of SoCal costs.

With the pending departure of our AD you will see the focus shift from capital projects that the administration never supported to preserving the status quo regarding coaches, recruiting budgets, etc. We need everyone to provide their input with the new AD search. The reality is the school is the loser due to the lack of stadium improvement, this is the only path toward finding the dollars EWU needs to compete academically. Please don't assume everyone on our Board of Trustees is not paying attention to the failed administration. This is a public university. The leaders are accountable to the citizens of this great state.

If we are willing to accept new shiny bleachers on the visitor side that is all we will get. I for one am not interested it a facelift but expect to see something grand like the original Gateway project. Less than that I would not be willing to participate.

LaDopa goes back longer than anyone I can remember on a soapbox for upgraded stadium seating.
If we won't go for anything less than the Gateway Project we are going to get nothing for a long time, that has already been proven. If LaDopa's latest plan of 6000 seats on the east side that fit in with the existing west side seating, and are supported by the boosters, administration and board let's git her done with no more delays.

The Gateway Project is completely DOA. You can forget about it. It was a shot in the dark to begin with, and getting people to donate multiple millions to something that never got out of the blueprint stages was always going to be problem. If that is your expectation, prepare to be underwhelmed.

That said, just because it doesn't have a $75mm price tag doesn't mean it can't be sweet. And if we go the modular direction, which is certainly cheaper, it's not like there aren't some great looking modular grandstands out there.

The bottom line is capacity needs to be increased post haste. The East side today is bad for aesthetics and bad for functionality. We already have a perfectly good half-stadium, so all the attention needs to go on the East side.

Shiny metal bleachers is all EWU Football has right now, (on the Eastside) so I respectfully disagree! We all want to see a red Husky Stadium up there but $70 Million isn’t going to happen. If it were, at least a portion of said funds would have been raised by now. That dream is no longer realistic.

Agreed 100%. Consider the 2004 expansion & renovation: brand new pressbox & brand new “modular-style” north endzone grandstand. The track was not removed, making “modular-style” seating acceptable for the north endzone grandstand. So why not then mirror the “modular-style” grandstand of the north endzone with a ~6,000 seat “modular-style” grandstand on the Eastside of Roos Field? Done!

EWU Football was extremely fortunate to get Red artificial turf & videoboard, but the stadium still looks kind of...... embarrassing. This needs to get done, ASAP! #GoEags

There is a good example of modular direction is Spokane county fair grounds. Seats, restrooms and concessions, plus press box area.

Ron,
I don't care how much you and others may think the Project is DOA. I have given up many years ago, however this New AD Lynn Hickey, could surprise many of us, and that is what I am hoping for. She worked very hard before she got here attempting to get us a 5th Game, she succeeded, made a bold decision to ask for donations April 28, at the Lobster Rib Dinner Dance, and she again succeeded, over $24,000.00 for Scholarships. Just being around her make me feel very positive, and many years ago my good feelings was gone. I am willing to give her a chance to get things done, only hope it is before I leave this Beautiful World, I am not getting any YOUNGER. Let us all hope for the BEST. Vic E. Wallace
