Roos Field Renovation

Still nothing as March approaches, ugh:(
Just thinking the same thing....wonder what the deal is. I get not wanting to put something out there like last time, but how are you supposed to capitalize on our season without a image or something to donate for? This is going to catch up to us at some point. Also there is the field needing to be redone as well. :coffee:

It will really hurt if they fail to capitalize on our second trip to Frisco within eight years. I don't need to preach to the choir about how our stadium ranks among our BSC peers or what a stadium can do for this university, but I would like to point out that the Vandals have raised (cash in the bank) $40,000,000 for their basketball arena and they are ranked near 341st out of 353 teams in Division 1 basketball right now.

Source - Tubs at the Club podcast. If you haven't heard of it, I would suggest giving them a listen. Great Idaho fan perspective on the transition from FBS to FCS and then more information throughout basketball season.

Seriously 40M for a basketball stadium in Moscow???? Good for them, but ouch for us.

FINALLY We are at the next stage!!! Public Comments

Here is what I wrote-
"Would love to see a horse shoe configuration with removing of the bleachers on the opposing side as well as the end zone. Additionally removing of the track and moving of the field closer to the stands on the pressbox side. Since the winds tend to come from the scoreboard side when putting the horse shoe in move the scoreboard to the other side and block off that side of the field as well as the opposing side. Also put a overhang to block potential rain from getting on the fans. Finally would like to see a REAL HALL OF FAME area specifically for all the honorees and accomplishments/artifacts of not only the football team, but also other sports as well. DISPLAY THE HISTORY! Not everyone knows where the Red Reese Room is or how to find or travel down to where the X3 Walter Payton's and Buchanan awards are....let alone the 2010 National Championship. Also we need better concessions (lines too long at field level) and more restrooms."

There’s nothing new in that link. All of this information came out a few months back when they settled on an architect.

Yeah, unfortunately when you click on the link you do not get any new information. We have had that option for public input for a while now. I think this was to appease the masses by simply saying that they haven’t forgot about the project haha

Well all you glasses half empty people at least fill out the form otherwise they will think no one cares.

Yes, there is an update. Per EWU athletic twitter and facebook:

EWU has received preliminary reports from our contractors, ALSC, as part of the pre-design phase for the stadium. University leadership is reviewing details and exploring options for next steps.

Its not much but they can't do a whole lot while they are waiting on the ALSC to do their work. No doubt the preliminary report has different options involved. I think this A.D. is commited to driving this plan forward. I understand people are impatent (me too) but positive steps are whats best, unlike the gateway project that only turned into a distraction from reality and when quized about it the athletic dept. would distance itself from the whole notion and say it was never official but they would not deny it either. I suspect we will hear more as spring ball approacheds.
Go Eags!
P.S. So glad that "gateway project" was removed from this thread title!

The best thing that can be done, in my opinion, is for the university to say what their first construction will look like. I would think addressing the East Side and building some kind of permanent structure would be the first and most important priority. Then outline how much is required to get it built. I'd even recommend having some kind of $$$ tracker to show how much has been donated. It would keep everyone from bitching, because if the money is shown to not be coming in, everyone would know why nothing is being built yet.

The other critical thing would be to show that the university does ,in fact, have a plan and throw the accountability for the plan on the donors. The biggest gripe I have on this topic is that getting any information out of the university has been like pulling teeth. And when information does trickly out, there's never anything new to learn.

I think it is critical that we have increased seating by 2020 because that is an epic home schedule that would allow us to fill an expanded stadium and set the stage for future growth.

Probably preaching to the choir on this website, but I think the most effective thing we fans can do at this point is to buy our season tickets, go to the Killin, and support EAF. AD needs cash for everyday operations now, before any capital improvements can break ground.

While everything you’ve said is true, it isn’t quite on point as it relates to the stadium. The money for a stadium expansion will not come from either the EAF or the AD. It will be a separate fund. The AD has already said NO to public funds being used for the stadium. Donating money to the EAF, while incredibly important to EWU athletics, won’t do anything to build the stadium.

This is why the lack of information is so disconcerting. The university needs the plan out there along with information as to how to donate to the project. Without that hard information, no one knows where or how their money will be spent.

I guess my point was that if the department can't support itself and its athletes at this level, there will be little appetite by important stakeholders to invest heavily in a major project like a stadium renovation.

Curious as to how/who sponsors the club hockey team...does ASB give any money to the hockey club? Who pays for maintenance of the hockey facility/ice rink and are there locker rooms in the facilty. Also, who covers the cost of taking care of those and pays maintenance dept. to clean and maintain them?
Somebody sold the student body the idea that it would be a good idea to build the club a hockey arena for students and a club team to the tune of 2 mill. But who pays to keep it going? When I hear NO public funds to be used for the stadium I wonder where the funds come from to maintain that huge hockey facility. Been to campus many many times and keep telling myself to go in there and check it out as it seems to be a great facility from the pictures online...nicer than the stadium.

The Club Hockey Team is funded as a club sport, which in turn is funded through Student Activity Fee's collected on campus. As a side note, over 50% of the Student Activity Fee already goes to Athletics to help fund the program. This is how the students get into games for "free."

The "Hockey Rink" is technically part of the University Recreation Center and was funded by student's taxing themselves for a new recreation center. Rec Centers and Student Union buildings (or athletic venues for that matter) can't be built or remodeled with state funds anymore because they aren't considered a classroom so the students have to pay the bill if they want new things. When the vote came up for the URC, the interim President of EWU happened to also be the Hockey Club advisor. He somehow greased enough palms that no one cried conflict of interest and they convinced the students a hockey rink was better than more basketball courts. The URC was built as a partnership between the students and the university. The students pay for the building and the university pays for the operation and maintenance of the facility. I'm not sure of the relationship beyond that.

Well, hopefully by May we might have something to look at according to the AD’s email she sent out today.

“We are continuing our work developing a stadium renovation plan. After soliciting input from various internal and external constituent groups, ALSC Architects has provided remarkable preliminary renderings. Following feedback on the initial renderings, the next steps in the process is for us to evaluate its feasibility relative to the scope of the project. Our ambitious timeline is set to present the project to the Board of Trustees in May. We are excited to continue moving this amazing project forward.”

I still believe Lynn has hopes of something significant for 2020 when we have an amazing home schedule lined out.

It’s definitely time for SOMETHING to be announced it’s been 15 years since Roos Field has seen structural upgrades.
